Fracking may be a problem for nuclear power, but it may also be the birth of NEWclear power; power from Liquid Fluoride Thorium Recyclers. Power from LFTRs holds promise to be cheaper than even natural gas.

Another development on the Thorium side is the new test reactor using thorium mixed oxide fuel.

Consumes excess plutonium while utilizing plentiful thorium in fairly conventional nuclear power plants.

The power plant has to be boiling heavy water as I see it based on the design of the 'test reactor' used.

What a perfect opportunity for the Enhanced CANDU 6 which is ready for licensing in Canada.

Personally, I prefer the LFTR since you never have to remove the fuel bundles and reprocess the pellets. In a LFTR, the fuel starts liquid and stays liquid while it gets all used up.
