How intresting that we can see what they looked like so many yrs ago..I guess people did not change that much as they look like the rest of us living today..I think they were a very smart people at what they accomplished in their day.

If he lived in the Ptolemaic Period, that means he lived when Macedonian Greeks ruled over Egypt. So, his Caucasian characteristics are not that a big surprise. Belonging to the aristocracy, possibly he was of Greek origin. Actually his face looks very Greek to me and I still see men resembling him in Greek cities. So, to meet the average, I'd reconstruct him with medium tanned skin and brown eyes.

Why couldn't extant skin/body tissue be analyzed for the presence of DNA or melanin to determine the origins/exact skin color of the mummy for reconstruction??

DNA analyses have been done, and have showed that the ancient egyptians's bodies preserved in the form of mummies have more genetic homology with modern-day COPTS that sub-saharan Africans or any other modern people. As melanin is a protein and would break down over time moreso than DNA does, but I suppose there is probably some assay that could be done on it. However, I don't think skin color is the most important criterion for determining the origins of the ancient Egyptians--there are many people with dark skin color as a result of their environments and natural selection who are not "black".
