You will be butchered by Egyptians.....We are savage and evil and monsters..........Run out of our earth
You could not even butcher the small little country of Israel with a smaller population and smaller army, the Jews beat the crap out of you.

Wow. I stumbled across this thread while googling "tourism in egypt + safety". It is extraordinarily aggressive and obscene, by & large. I only want to say that if anyone on this forum actually wants to help shut down tourism revenue to Luxor, they're going about it the right way.

Welcome jafr22,as you rightly say this site is aggressive and obscene and I am surprised to see anyone still able to post to this thread. As the last post was from September 18 2012 I had thought that the moderators had woken up at last, and locked it.
If you check all the other posts not a single one had received 1,127 replies.
Except for the first dozen or so posts the rest were absolute rubbish and a lot were racist.

Travel to Egypt in July is definitely not safe. Their is a high probability of civil war or terroristic action due to revolution II. Even without the revolution, security was degenerating over last couple of months.

it will be months, or years, before Egypt again becomes a great tourist venue.

Very safe most of the time in most areas. Stay out of the Sinai unless flying in to Sharm el Sheikh though, as the Sinai is fraught with potential for kidnapping which has heretofore remained without serious injury.
Women walking frequently, in Cairo, have purses snatched by passing motorists and passengers on motorcycles. Further, several incidents of carjackings have occurred in recent months, even resulting in the death of two officials.
Luxor, though, especially for tourists, is indeed safe. Nile cruises also as safe, according to my contacts here (I reside in Cairo).
US State Department does a good, if a bit overly cautious, job keeping American citizens alerted. For the present, however, with the decision soon coming regarding the new president, it is wise to stay out if you are not here. Just as a precaution.
Of course, visiting Tahrir and, especially taking photos or video there, is foolish and, particularly for western women, is beyond foolish.
My purse was snatched by a passing motorist in Luxor last september! An accomplice had been waiting at the door of the Nile boat.

Above comments sum up all that is wrong in Egypt and the middle east in general.
Egyptians will never be free as long as they are dominated by their dependence on Islam. They want all the technology etc but are still mentally in the dark ages. Scared to death of questioning what has been instilled in them and nothing else of value in their lives
The only response they seem to have is to insult anyone who has differing opinions and that is not only sad but also pitiful
Democracy and freedom?

Yes they are fine. I haven't seen them in over 3 years so I am thinking about taking a trip home.
