Luxor....not the place to go....Bad experiences on my last trip there this month....The lack of the hated Police...has made this venue unsafe...!!!!!
This visit would be the 22nd in as many years...but maybe my last until such time as things
Settle Down...after the Jan. revolt...(I was there at that time...also)..Scary...!!!!So anyone planning a trip there....Be Warey...and Take Care..!!

Ive been planning going myself. I asked on here about advice for a single western female. Not much response (theres plenty of stupid polls and questions and longrunning crappy Qs though)

I wanted some sense. I have been warned that it is dangerous for many reasons. So..Im as above, 37 travelling alone not staying in a resort. Am I asking for trouble?

Is the country almost in a state of civil war? Im bothered about going on holiday somewhere they think its acceptable to kills Christians aswell! Why isnt anyone saying how potentially crap Egypt is becoming????

That and all the stuff going on...should I bother?

P.S Im not a sex tourist tart I wanted the culture, magic, the people.

hi, I'm living in Luxor myself, not a sex tourist, but working hard; even if not many tourist now, in what I do you cannot just'take a break'
Life is very difficult for all Egyptians now, so yes, you have to be more careful than before when you come to visit. But: I lived in the south of France before, I can assure you it was more dangerous there!
The country is certainly NOT in a state of war! I agree just on one thing with DG MacLennan: the lack of police is a problem. We don't want the police back as it was before, but as in ANY country in the world: WE NEED THE POLICE BACK! Please, don't think Egypt is crap, it is still a wonderful country, with so much to offer! What I see here, between Christians and Muslims: living together very well, not specially seeking each others company but respecting each other, even doing business together. It's just about some isolated cases that is made big news headlines... I didn't see any journalist at Easter, in front of the Luxor churches... but what I did see: a human chain of young Muslims, boys and girls, to protect Christians against attacks!!

so funny girl: you still find the Egyptian culture, the magic, the people (I'm not saying all good, but most people do understand how to behave if they want to keep tourists coming)
Just have a look on a facebook page, open group "Back to Luxor" created after the revolution. You can find much useful information and people from different countries who can advise you.
Wish you a nice stay in Egypt!

Hello to everyone who wants to go to Luxor.
Please do not listen to all the negative rumours you hear about Luxor. I am Belgium and I have my flat in Luxor. I go to Luxor every 5 weeks and I feel safe there, more safe then in my home town which is Brussels. I walk alone in the street, do my shopping, go to the souk without any problem.
Egyptian people are kind and warm and they need tourism so they will not do any harm to a tourist.
One advise I can give is if you are female, please respect the Muslim culture. You certainly do not have to ware a scarf but please be decent.
Enjoy your stay in Luxor!

To funny girl I would just like to say please go and enjoy yourself,it is far more dangerous in the UK than in Luxor. You will find the people kind and if you respect the culture they will respect you.The Luxor temple and Karnak temple are wonderful especially Karnak which leaves most people breathless. Also if it is your first time the sites on the West Bank are out of this world and in my humble opinion Medinet Habu temple is worth visiting the West Bank if only just to see this one temple. You do not state when you are thinking of going but at this time of year it is very hot and besides it will soon be Ramadan.A good time to go is any time after November up to March. I myself always go for two months December to February or March for three months.I wish I had gone on this site weeks ago and have only decided to check this site because of a comment on the TA site where someone has asked if there are any shopping malls in Luxor. As soon as I read it I thought OMG, Luxor contains a big % of the worlds antiquities and someone wants to know if there is a shopping mall!!.I was going to reply to that topic on TA but have a strong suspicion it would be removed. So as I have already said please go just be sensible and you will have a great and I am sure an unforgettable time.

Foreign tourists in the UK are not killed by gunmen as they were in Luxor a few years ago - deliberately targeted by islamists who murdered them in cold blood.
The ever present spectre of islamic terrorism hangs over the vast majority of muslim countries. Especially so in Egypt during these uncertain times. Tourists need to know they are still been heavily policed before they feel it safe to return.

Hi Funny Girl, I find this information very helpful as I am going to El Gouna in 16 days. I have never been to Egypt and am interested in their culture and I hear Egypt is beautiful. It's actually a nice change to see the positive feedback on this site.

To all those who want to go to Egypt but are still hesitating, please GO! This is a wonderful country for divers (Red Sea cost) and for those who love ancient civilisation, believe me Egypt is an open air museum especialy Luxor.
Egytian people need you badly! Since revolution tourisme falling down and no work = no money.
I would say book your ticket and go, you will not regret it.

I just got back from Egypt last night (El Gouna), and it was the most wonderful vacation I have ever had! I loved it! I would recommend it to anyone thinking of going. Of course, it didn't hurt that I had the BEST company, lol. Egypt is a beautiful place with a lot of history. I say GO and don't think twice about it :) I plan to go back as soon as it's possible.

i live in luxor and have done for the last 2 nd a half years i am a pensioner living on my own and even now i feel safer here than in england. Of course it has changed since the rev there are more strangers than us(

heyual the locals will tell you that, and now one must be more aware than before but that only means you behave as you would in any big town or city anywhere world.Dress appropreatly for a muslim country even though you are a tourist, dont walk down side streets alone at night, dont use the atms after dark, dont carry important documents in your handbag and dont walk around with lots of cash on you.Your biggest problem will be all the young boys telling you you are beautiful, you well may be, but be assured they are only after your money, dont get me wrong they are lovely people and will be there if you need them, but they are struggling to feed there animals and families,so just be firm with them, and remember the wonderfull sights and sounds of luxor are still there for you to enjoy, and you will, and youll come back.So dont be put off with all the hype it is lovely here and always HOT what more could one want
