To the person who wrote "I just found out that my daughter's teacher is not a certified teacher. The district is hiring these student teachers because they can save money by hiring them as substitute teachers."
Do you know the difference between certified and qualified? I've taught over 20 years in colleges and universities. I'm not "certified." But does that mean I'm not "qualified"? You need to learn more about the "training" and "certification" of teachers.

Sound Off Caller: "The Republicans got us in this mess we're in by tax cuts to the wealthy. Two wars, without paying for them. If you want to go back to the same thing, vote Republican."

Democrats have been in control of Congress since January 2006 (Senate and House). Both parties can take credit/blame for our current financial troubles.

If police officers are allowed to break the laws that we pay them to inforce, things will be even more out of control than they are now.

Steve Pearce says he wants to represent southern New Mexico but he votes with BP and big oil 100 percent of the time. He is out of touch of New Mexico.

The Democrats are just as much to blame for the current situation as the Republicans are. Neither political party has practiced fiscal responsibility in many, many years.

The comment about McCamley is so right, just like Jr. Steinborn and others in the Democrat party. Full time politicians with no real success in their lives outside of government jobs. Oh yea that describes our unprepared and unqualified professor in chief Obama.

What no Democrat ever understands is only spend what you recieve in tax revenue. Just like the rest of us do in the rel world outside of government. Quit blaming Bush or the rich or everybody and anybody because you spend more than you take in. It is just that simple.

"Nobody should be given school vouchers. If you choose to send your child to a non-public school then you pay for it. I went to Catholic school for 12 years. My parents never expected anyone else to pay for it."

Right on! I couldn't agree more.

Yep and the Aggies will win the National College Football Championship this year.

Another clownbot that does not have a clue what they are talking about. Like
the above posting Dumb as Craps have been in Charge of both House and Senate since
2006 - we really started having economic problems in 2008 and are in the present
state because of the actions of those clowns since 2006.

Dumb as Craps - the party of finger pointers, non blame takers and ultimately
the party of destruction.

TEAGUE IS OUT OF HIS LEAGUE

Harry Teague is a big oil guy as well - just look at his record. Too boot he is an
employer that touted his providing of health care to each of his employees - until
he figured out that it was too expensive and was only going to get more expensive
under MAOBAMACARE - which by the way he voted against.

Now we find out that since it is so expensive and only going to get more expensive his
firm made a decision to drop all the employees from healthcare policies so that
the company bottom line would be better off.

HARRY TEAGUE bad for New Mexico!- YOU BET!

Democrats have not been 'in control' of Congress since January 2006. Elections were held in November of 2006, all incoming Congresspeople and Senators were sworn in in January of 2007. Also, check how often that 'Democratic' Congress voted against or vetoed anything President Bush asked for or signed. Didn't happen. They were/are Democrats in name only.

I've known Bill McCamley for several years as an energetic and intelligent person. He will serve in the PRC by researching every rate hike that comes before the board. Bill is a person who takes his work very seriously, whether it's teaching or running for office. We need young people like Bill McCamley in office. We need their fresh eyes and energy. Younger officeholders like Bill and Jeff Steinborn are what our country needs.

I agree, we as taxpayers do not owe school vouchers to those who cannot afford private school. If someone wants to send their kids to private school, they need to pay for it themselves. If it is important enough to send them there, they need to get a second job to pay for it themselves. I guess it doesn't matter anyway. When was the last time Susanna Martinez really followed through with anything like education and truancy?

"Drug cartels in southern New Mexico": Didn't Susana Martinez jail drug cartel members? Will she stop fundraising with the far-right-wingers long enough to arrest the drug cartel members? Her campaign rhetoric is a bit shy on reality.

You are correct, I checked my information and the Democrats took over the Senate and the House on January 3, 2007. My apologies for the misprint.

She said in her advertisement that She prosecutes "Dangerous Cartel Members". Nobody seems to know how many "Dangerous Cartel Members" She has prosecuted. Were there any at all? As taxpayers, shouldn't we be given this information?

For institutions of higher learning, NCLB does not come into play thus there is a distinction between qualified and certified. However, according to federal law, there is not a distinction between certified and qualified at the primary or secondary levels of education. "...(t)o be deemed highly qualified, teachers must have: 1) a bachelor's degree, 2) full state certification or licensure, and 3) prove that they know each subject they teach" New No Child Left Behind Flexibility: Highly Qualified Teachers

I'm not saying I agree with this-there should be a distinction between qualified and certified - a lot of professionals may not be certified but are, in many cases, more qualified to teach. It's a case LCPS finding loopholes around federal law to save money when in some cases students are suffering from the decisions.

End prohibition. Fire the HALF of the sherriff's department, jail staff, etc devoted to punishing people for preferring a different recreational drug ... Than crack down on BAD drivers, domestic abuse, rape ...

... return the savings to the ctizens ...

... Oh. What's that sherrif? Keeping your bloated budget is more important than ending the War on Drugs which has cost a trillion dollars, thousands of Mexican and American lives, imprisoned tens of thousands of innocent people, and given a huge chunk of our economy to foreign gangs you couldn't stop if you tried?...

... my bad. Carry on.

All true points, and the fundamental point of the caller was that these are student teachers. You cannot receive your license from the state until you have completed a semester of student teaching. Therefore, if the student teachers are teaching, then they are in violation. They have also been promised employment at the end of their student teaching. LCPS is skirting an equal opportunity employment lawsuit with their stretch of interpretation.
