10 years ago I went to the city council and asked them to start charging the Bars and "Restaurants" some sort of user fee that would cover all the extra resources vistors cost the city. A fee of $1.00 taken at the door or a .50 tax on alcoholic drinks.(Extra police, paramedics etc.) Nothing has happened.

Someone tell me why this isn't a good idea.

"Someone tell me why this isn't a good idea."

Because it's too easy to just go to the bars in Manhattan Beach, where you won't get dinged at the door. You'd run the risk of losing that business (and the tax that comes with it) altogether.

Did they lower the monthly car allowance that the council receives?

It's very hard to believe that a .25-.50 added to a drink or $1 at the door would drive so many people to MB. There needs to be a user fee. We are just kidding ourselves that things will slowly work out. We brought these businesses into this city. Sure people come...but the resources they use need to be paid for....a user fee seems like the only reasonable answer.

HB reader has good idea that MB can do too. Drive all the drunks to RB.

Great idea to tax the drunks on drinks and on entry. If they start leaving the dives in HB and coming here then MB would put the same tax on here and drive them right back to the HB dives. HB is dumb to not tax their main business. ALCOHOL. loser city.

The Hermosa Beach scum drunks won't come to Manhattan Beach because they have no class. MB is upper class vs. Hermosa Beach which is lower and no class. Burgie Benz can puke in Hermosa Beach, but if he does so in Manhattan Beach he will go to jail. Maybe they will all go to Redondo Beach.

As if we want them in our city! I guess if I was one of those drunks, I would prefer more down to earth people in RB, than the snobbish wanna-be high class Manhattan types who somehow think they are better than anyone else. Keeping living in that little MB bubble! Keep your Hermosa counsins in MB, we don't want them in RB!

Hey Burgie, remember me?

I'm running for Mayor of Redondo Beach and I desperately need your help! The plan is spend the next 4 months knocking on roughly 6,000 doors. Ban the ban.
