When we discuss the educational level of Blacks in America we need to use facts, instead of rheotic. Academically, Whites and Blacks never, ever started out at the same starting gate.

When you look at the fact that Jim Crowe was really not that long ago. Just a few decades back. During those tough times Blacks were not allowed an education any where near the quality of education Whites received. Blacks were expected to lead subservient lives and therefore were given only an inferior education. Again, that was ONLY A FEW DECADES BACK.(White people, you have to stop getting angry when someone brings up this part of recent American history, after all it is fact and it is an American truth.) How do you help your children with their homework, if you have an inferior education. So it gets handed down from one generation to the next. An accelerated learning program to close this gap should have been put in place decades ago, but it never happened. And of course you have many blacks who were able to overcome the gap on their own, but everyone is not going to be able to do that, as we see in society.

Also figure in that even after Jim Crowe, Blacks in the inner city were still only handed schools that were not up to par with schools in the suburbs, not to mention now those same schools are the ones overcrowded with illegal aliens who don't understand english and require ESL programs, which puts an additional burden on the school attempting to provide Black kids with an education. In most cases, sadly, students who are behind academically, are destined to drop out.

Before you naysayer come on board crying "oh yeah, they are such victims", remember, you are probably on the inside looking out and part of the group and side that would have made it OK for this to occur a few decades ago and trickle down with no program to correct it. And yes, the government intentionally created the academic gap, the government should have created an acceleterated program to correct it. This has more to do with circumstance, and nothing to do with anyone's superiority.

And before you drop your favorite phrase, there is no such thing as a "race card". That is a white person's smokescreen to divert attention away from any acts of bias based on race.

TWP..... nobody mentioned the race card, you did.
Like everything else else, its always governments fault.
Because seriously, it can be the individuals decisions to decide, "I'm lazy, I'll just live off the system." "I'll collect a check from the state, claim some disability, and sell drugs."
And when that doesn't work, I'll break into peoples hopes with a shotgun. When I get killed by the HOMEOWNER (rightfully so), I'll sue the police and city!!!!!

Also, what's REALLY telling is he immediately goes to the subject of Blacks when the subject of dropouts is brought up. How racist is that?
Again, it's beyond racist. It's arrogance and ignorance, by a complete jerk.
The fact is, since 75% of the children of illegal aliens drop out of school by 11th grade, it doesn't take an expert in number crunching to figure out how California's dropout rate is so ridiculously high, or why California is going bankrupt.
What WOULD be interesting is to know exactly what the stats would be sans anchor babies. It might just be quite a bit lower. That would be my bet.
Even easier to figure out is why this particular democratic congress has the lowest approval rating in it's recorded history. That's pretty bad.
I can't even believe they're actually submitting a presidential candidate. I mean, isn't it pretty clear that they are widely hated by most americans?
That their policies have us lurching towards a depression?
I can't say our current "republican" representatives are much brighter.
We should stop paying for all medical research and put all our scientists and engineers onto the task of bringing Ronald Reagan back from the dead.
I know, I know, it'd doomed to fail, but at least we can travel down the chute of hell knowing we tried to do something good.

How about backing up your "facts'. There is no truth to your statement that 75% of children of undocumented immigrants drop out of high school. Not true at all.

Jim Crow last from 1877 to the mid 1960's...the policies of Jim Crow have been defunct for almost half a century (approx. 50 years) not a mere couple of decades as you suggest! Is half a century too short to turn around this learning gap? I think it is more than sufficient. Cities have created accelerated programs to correct this wrong. Take Long Beach for example, they bus inner city kids to schools on the east side and have given them the opportunity to have the same access to "superior" education that the white children have enjoyed for years. So why do the inner city children still lag behind the more "privileged" children? It has nothing to do with parents abilities to help with homework...that is an EXCUSE not a reality!!!

I really can't believe some of the racist comments here this morning, and choose to ignore them. What is important here, is that our education professionals have been simply lying to the public over many years, while purposely fudging the numbers which go into the drop-out rate. Anyone who is anyway connected to our High Schools would be well aware that the actual rate was at least double what was being reported.

The problem here is not race, it is education, and the lack of it. A failing student is passed along, grade to grade, until in High School that student has no chance whatsoever of competing with his fellow students who are at grade level. That student, eventually giving up to the frustration leaves school, and unable to read properly, or to do even simple math, finds himself unemployable. We ourselves are responsible for creating this underclass of non educated drop out students. We simply must demand far more for our money from our primary and secondary educational system.

Instead of papering over the drop out rates, they are now forced to give a realistic number. Now that this is the case, we must force the schools to address the issues which create the drop out rate to begin with. Those issues have nothing to do with the intelligence of any class of students, nor with their ethnic backrounds. They are all capable of learning. Rather, it is a matter of setting expectations from an early age, and pursuing those goals.

I think you should go and sit in a class room and see how the African American students act. Also I have a friend that teaches in Compton, and when he call the parents and the excuses they the parents come up for the students you would not believe. So don't blame the teachers it starts at home!!!!

I know this has nothing to do with the article but everyone made this into a race thing......why do they still think it is African American....when a survey or test asks me my race it does not have on the list European American....which I am not because my great grandparents might have been but I'm either white or American.....you are either African....or American....you can't be both....unless you came here from Africa and became a citizen.....Please do not call me racist after this....I think my point is somewhat valid.

It's hard to find the truth when it comes to dropout levels. A lot of schools don't focus on race when it comes to recording academic achievement, and the stats are sometimes all over the map, but rest assured, they are most often geared in the favor of minorities. For example, a lot of studies are including GED's as getting a high school diploma, even though many employers, as you may well know, do not consider a GED as equal to a high school diploma. Not to mention the fact that too many dropouts end up earning their GED's in prison, which dilutes their value even further.
I was going from memory, regarding the stat, again, there's so many studies that are prejudicial in favor of the achievement of some minorities, but here's one that's in the ball park:

http://www.manhattan-institute.org/html/cr_ba...

Even this, a study with such damning results, I think is lowballing.
One more thing, a lot of these studies choose to include counting an hispanic who attended school in Mexico as a high school graduate. I don't think I'd include that myself, but maybe you're more familiar with the excellence of Mexican public schools.

Here's one more for you to chew on:

http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-linco...

Quote from article:
"Both the neighborhood and student body are about 15% Asian. And yet Asians make up 50% of students taking Advanced Placement classes. Staffers can't remember the last time a Latino was valedictorian."

Hmmm. Children of poor immigrant asians are wiping the floor with children of poor immigrant mexicans.
Why would that be, I wonder?

You are only right about one part.....it does start at home, if there is no discipline in the home why would they have to behave at school. However, there are kids of all races that act out in class....if the teacher was smart, they would make that student leave class and let the counselors and principals deal with that...which IS there job as administrators. If you are disruptive leave....when you want to learn....you can come back.....but throwing a whole race under the bus like that is just ignorant.

Again I am not making a race issue I am just pointing out that I have sat in my friends class room and I have seen first hand that the ones disrupting the classroom is African American students so when you have seen it first hand it's not a race issue

What you stated here is totally different from your first comment. I agree that it is difficult to find accurate information of any type re dropout levels, but the info you gave on the children of uundocumented immigrants is not true. It is ironic that some will complain about the educational levels of children of the undocumented but also don't want them in our schools. The issue of dropouts is a serious one and no one really has been successful at addressing it.
