What is wrong with people on this blog? Have any of you been going to open house and seen how this school has evolved in the past 10 years?
This is not the just school to go to if regular High School is not for you. It is not easy to get into like it was 20 years ago. This school has over 700 applicants for 350 freshman slots.
When you walk in the front door you can see how the school has transformed from the early 70's decor to a sleek new updated decore with a fountain, tiling and cosmetic updates. All done from the Masonry department!
The academic department is doing it's job! MCAS scores show that. The number of students going onto college is increasing every year. And if you go to open house, you can see the amazing special ed resources they have for children with learning differences. I had a child that was offered, if he went to NM, a study block in the library for learning support with one teacher and 25 other students. At Monty tech the learning support offered more than one teacher in the learning support classroom. All the resources needed to succeed and laptops for all students to use in learning support.
The trades at this school are adding more and more state of the art equipment every year. The teachers are all skilled craftsmen and women that are teaching their trades to these students. And giving back to Community. If you look around you always see in the newspaper the community projects these students are doing for towns in their district. If you have a minute go to Cogshall Park, there is a big sign in front of the building that was burned down that is being rebuilt. Just one of the many projects they have helped with.
If your car needs a sticker, automotive. If your car has been in a crash, auto collision repair. When you walk through the door, students working the receptionist desk, office technology. If you need your hair colored or cut, cosmetology. If you are hungry, stop by their lovely restaurant.
This school is placing at Skills usa competitions. Monty tech is a gem. The Superintendant has been increasing the exposure to the school and has been instrumental in the improvements at this school.
Who am I? I am a proud Aunt and Mother of students that have received outstanding education at this school.
I feel that the Superintendant has done an outstanding job at this school. If you have walked through the doors of the school, you would see what I see. I suggest you all attend the open house.

And we all know that a 'sleek interior' is the most important part of a school. It has nothing to do with leadership and the example that is set for the students who attend.

Hey Barbara, you must've missed the other 95% of the post while trying to come up with such a brilliant nugget of sarcasm.

Hey Angry in Ashby, there is an old saying "Fine feathers don't make fine birds." Is there really any substance behind the pretty tile and fountains? What about cutting budgets for books and personnel? Have you seen the fleet of expensive vehicles or the administrators' personal cars? Do any other admin. at other area schools get their own school funded vehicles? The list goes on and on, but no one seems to notice including most parents, SC members and the general public from all these towns that pay taxes. Let's not sway from the real issues - why there has been a succession of principals in such a short time, and why administrator's are allowed to behave like the 16 years old that they are overseeing?

You have the wrong Superintendent…It was Strat Dukakis that did all the things you site in your blog. His dedication and tireless support made this School what it is. Culkeen works very hard to make everything go backwards.

Well, my son is getting older. I have been very vocal that I want my son to go to Monty Tech. However, recent information is making me think twice. It seems to me that the personal agenda of the superintendent is hurting the school. A combination of personal transgretions and professional misjudgement has compromised the integrity of the school. I happen to run in the same circles as a couple of teachers and one administator from the school. As an outsider I have been able to analyze the situation based on their comments. I know the bias of employees. I understand that there is a natural conflict there. But, I can say with full confidence that this man (Mr. Culkeen) seems out of touch with students, administrators, and teachers. He is self centered and seems to be under the influence of the repercussions of his personal mistakes. Two principals have been the victim of his failure as a superintendant. We need to stop him before students and the school itself become victims. If he is still running the school when the time comes my son will stay far away from Monty Tech. However, I want my son to follow in my footsteps. So, if the school committee does not act, I implore Jim Culkeen to post his resignation. Too many future plumbers, electritions, mechanics...etc depend on it.
