Remember people, it was only a straw vote. Second one is the one that counts.

A group of concerned citizens will be forming a Facebook page pertaining to the merger study. There seems to be a number of discrepancies, confusion, and general misunderstanding of the study. We will be reviewing all 23 recommendations as well as the addendum. If you voted yes or stayed home, you should read it. We will focus primarily on the taxes for each community as well as phase 3 of recommendation 23. Details to follow. Please join us as we try to make sense of what is considered a laborious 300 page report.

Will you be getting numbers that were not included but make a rather large impact on feasibility, such as start up costs? How about the biggest elephant in the room? Transportation??? How can you even think to tell people there will be savings when transportation is so very messed up?

Messed up, now there is a concise statement about transportation.
Transportation aid is very high for all school districts and then add in consolidation aid. Make sure you are ACCURATE before you start opposing merger. The second vote also gives time for a more close examination and study of all matters of merger. I wish people would seriously TRY to educate themselves before flapping there mouths before prattling on. have an opinion just make sure it is an INFORMED one not one made up by talking with Clem down the street who said.... therefore it's fact.

Has anyone mentioned the fact that Brocton has the worst graduation rate in Chautauqua County? Who would want to merge with them?

@Supporting Merger
If you can stop looking down your nose you might be able to see. I am looking to become INFORMED with ACCURATE information on costs which were not taken into consideration with the study. One of which is transportation. The current districts have different policies. The new district would need one policy. One question for example would be: Would the savings from having children attending school at the Brocton site and walking to school be enough to offset the increased cost of having to pick up all of the high school students in the Village of Westfield, bus them to the Brocton site and pay someone to look after the students waiting at both sites for the rest of their classmates to arrive????? wow This is an example of someone who is trying to take the"time for a more close examination and study of all matters of merger" not just flapping at someone.....

Oh, and I really don't think it would be prudent to use incentive aid to cover these costs. (The incentive aid goes away.)

They got the max amount of YES votes they are going to get. Is all that is necessary is for the NO voters to get out and rail away at the facts. If you look at the Westfield vote only 20% of the available voters voted. Your not going to get any new YES voters. I wouldn't feel too good if I were pro-merger and only 20% came out.

Clem,
The Rotary Club (club of D'Agostino and the superintendents) drove people to the vote if they were going to vote yes. Now is the time to get true hard facts. They won't be coming from "Supporting Merger" and they won't be coming from Hertlien or Betty White. Concern should be those who believe the board when they say Westfield is going bankrupt. It is not. Unless, the BOE chooses to drive it there to "punish" the taxpayers for not choosing the more expensive option.8681

Transportation is totally paid for via state money. Since it is mandated the state provides each student an education they pay all but a very small percentage of transportation costs.

To hell with merging. If they merge, sell your house & move! New York is a liberal hell-hole tax-ridden money-pit anyway.

ruminations....transportation does cost money... Currently Westfield is 90% aided. That is with walkers . Brocton is.... well we don't know....because they have been cooking those books.... In a new district???? If Brocton people refuse to walk and the entire district is only 60-80% aided well.... then we do have a very expensive situation.
