Credentials don't mean anything when the schools are failing the students. My vote is for Serena Shoop. There are successful schools in El Paso that we should pattern our schools after. Why aren't any Las Cruces administrators going to those schools to learn how they are succeeding so that we can implement those programs here and have success here in Las Cruces?

From Las Cruces, New Mexico, the City of Contradictions, where religious prejudice is a commodity and export by Dona Ana County and the City using public funds for personal gain.

Has Briseno bothered to enlighten himself about the different cultures besides Hispanic and different religions besides Catholic in the Las Cruces Public School District?

In a deposition for the case against the school district, Briseno was asked this simple question: "Can you name any non-Christian groups in Las Cruces?" Briseno could not! He was honest about it, not like former interim superintendent Marrufo in her testimony at trial.

Just whom does Charles (Chuck) Davis represent? Is he a 'look-out' or a dedicated citizen? His position on the School Board has been a wonderment all these years. Unopposed? Why?

It doesnt surprise me that the Sun News, now in the death throws of going under, would endorse Briseno. He has been the single most destructive school board member in the history of this district. The Sun News was in bed with former disgraced and fired superintendent Martinez, so it is natural that they would love this bozo. Briseno isnt qualified to be anything, except chief bigot of Dona ana County.

I am curious about who is actually endorsing these candidates. The title leads me to believe the school district is. If so, why is it they are not endorsing employees? Are they worried about losing employees or are they worried about having people on the board who have seen what life in the classrooms is really like? Who did they ask to figure out the entire district would endorse Briseno and Soules? Did they ask school employees or did they just ask higher ups at central office? Is this just an attempt to keep all the incumbents in office? If Ms. Soules and Ms. Flores evenly split 60% of the votes in their district, Mr. Gant wins. I'm just wondering.

Thanks, Sun-News, for the article. Shoop will definitely get my vote because we can't continue to bury our heads in the sand when it comes to sex education.

While I am not voting for Gant, I am not sure how he logic falls in this opinion piece. For one candidate, the LCSN says that credentials matter, and they pick Briseno. On the other race, Gant has more demonstrated experience than their selected candidate in education, and yet, the opposing candidate is selected because of extraneous information. Hmmmmm .... One word: consistency.

This is my third attempt to get a blog recorded. I hope you aren't screening them out.
A vote for Briseno will bring about a continuation of his faith based votes when discussing sex education and teen pregnancy. This large social problem needs the attention of board members who can see the logic of educating our children about comprehensive sex education instead opf abstinence only which is a complete failure.
Vote for Serena Shoop on Tuesday.

I sent a letter to the editor describing what happened at the "open forum" sponsored by the charter schools.I guess reporters left before the moderator blocked off any questions of the candidates except those about charter schools. I submitted two questions for Briseno but the moderator would not let him answer thereby giving him protection from a controversial answer. He was instrumental in getting the last charter installed which was sponsored by his old boss Jose Frietze.

Why does Harvard impress you guys so much? You know they put on their pants the same way we do. last harvard grad, well you know what that superintendent did or didn't do and as far as briseno, two terms and what a mess we have, underfunded paying two supers, and a principal. Our current superintendent is unqualified and was dissmissed from alamogordo or hobbs, not good we need a total change.

Briseno rubbers are ok, i don't know what is worse, you fighting for religious views or these parents ot believing that there kids are having sex. It happens way more than you believe.I do think that parents need to take a more active role, but my gosh something needs to be done our students are giving it up like government cheese. And the charter schools are a joke, just another government give away.

Are you kidding? Lonnie Briseno is one of the biggest crooks in the history of public schools. He and his cohort and former Schitty Council crony Jose Frietze are scammers who have done immeasurable harm to the Las Cruces Public Schools, stealing money from important programs for their wasteful little enterprise, which is doomed to fail from the start. Anyone who votes for Briseno needs to be beaten severely!

Some information about the qualifications of the editorial writer could be helpful...your reasons given for endorsing certain candidates are weak at best. The entire board needs to be replaced!
