Teachers in our state are grossly underpaid. This is just another 'slap in the face' to our educators.

While TN Board voted this in to save money, it will have dire consequences to our children & even all TN citizens in the longrun. Why do you think we've already recently lost several successful educaters to Alabama? They along with many other surrounding states value their educators more, ompensating them considerably higher. With TN passing this pay reduction, we can expect to watch highly qualified teachers and administrators head where they will be much better paid while we'll be stuck only drawing rejects. Our children and good educators deserve better. Mark it down, unless they reverse this vote, it is the beginning of the end.

There are a few very smart Black teachers but not to many...
You think there needs to be 21 levels of PAY?

I admit since this came out, I am seriously considering looking for employment across a border... KY, MO, AL..... I think it is going to be very hard to never get a raise from my 11 th year of teaching all the way until retirement. Teaching has definitely changed since 1990's.

And not for the best interest of both teachers and students.

that our state wants out of the educating business. Sad for TN families. Our national ed ranking will only go lower due to not supporting educators. You can't blame them for relocating to.other states or going into another line of work where they will be supported and paid more fairly. Its a shame our legislators don't care any more than this about our children. Time for we the people to stand up.

'wonder where all the teachers are on this issue... there should be a demand for more facts/answers to their source of income/future..If this was even a possibility, they should have given teachers a heads-up. They should have also have had every minute detail laid out: pay, incentives, how a particular system would be encouraged to keep its teachers. If school systems knew this might would have been a real possibility, they should have had a plan already in place. Answers would be nice!

ok lets go over this. 1 "Its a shame our legislators don't care any more than this about our children". I say it's sad our teachers don't care any more about our kids than this. I work a job in health care and it doesn't pay even what a teacher makes. But guess what,i love my job and while the pay should be better,i do it to help others. In my experience the teachers my kid has had in the last few years doesn't care about education my child. I have taught her more at home the both teachers combined. I understand they get tenure, I guess that's why most teachers could care les about the kids getting a quality education!Teachers should do their best to educate these kids regardless of pay. I agree they should make more, maybe if they do their job, they will

Article I read said no teachers would receive a 'pay cut'. Apparently it only covers those that will be hired after this goes into effect?

The only our state is interested in was the money 2 years ago that the gov. Gave for the race to the top. That's where the new evaluation law came about. That money is now used up. Our governor and sec. Of education Hoffman have been sorry as crap in this whole ordeal. You throw Jimmy elridge in with them. All the schools in Tn are teaching to the TCAP tests. All of them. From Aug until April its all about TCAPS. Ask your kids in school how many practice tests they have. Now it starts in K. Our education system has gone to hell in a hand basket. So they go to a new pay scale because they have spent all the money.

Nope. Do you label any and everyone who doesn't agree with the "norm" as a troll? What silly logic. I think you're a troll because I disagree with you. See what I did there?

Why should teachers be paid more when our state is among the top of being illiterate? I stand by my original statement that they're overpaid babysitters.

I call you a troll, because you make outlandish statements attempting to get a rise out of people.

Well here you go.

Let's air our professions. I am teacher. From experience, I know teachers work long hours, for little pay.

What is your line of work?

For the last 100 years every other profession is born out of teaching. If you really want to call them a baby sitter, how much do you pay for normal day care? Let's say $100/child.. With my 30students, that means I should make $3000 a week less expenses. 36 weeks x $3000 is $108000. Per teacher. So again, tell me how 3 teachers put together are getting paid that much and are being overpaid.

Thanks for making my point; opinions that are outside the "norm" you label as trolling. It wasn't directed to get a rise out of anyone but apparently it did with you. Just because you don't agree with it, doesn't make it trolling. I'm not here to supplement you and your emotionally fragile state by censoring my opinion so it doesn't seem "outlandish" to you.

Now, troll, my profession has no bearing on this discussion whatsoever because I am not a teacher. See what I did there, again? My profession would not add any substance to my original premise that teachers are overpaid.

If you don't like the pay, find a different profession. Teachers will NEVER make a lot of money, no matter how you slice it.

Therefore, YOU as a citizen have no right to gripe & whine when our education system spirals downward leaving kids as helpless victims all because people like you put NO value on educating them - our future. Some people just won't get it until it's too late.

What point were you making? You are building straw man arguments to supplement your need to be right. Tell me what your original post added to the conversation.

I label you as trolling and everyone would agree on me. You've not added to the discussion. You've taken away. Until you have your profession posted on here this discussion is over.

By the way it might help you to take a few logic classes to refute straw man arguments in the future.
