I ain't near as worried about outsiders as I am what goes on within the walls of the institutions!

You can only jerk folks around for so long....surprised this is the first "disgruntled" parent removed from the office...eagerly awaiting crct results...hoping another year of poor performance results in some significant changes in this school system...

Well I hopefully am going to have a conference with Ms. Hulsey this week. The computers are down and so the grades we see are not right. The rules at the school keep changing. Teacher will not email you back and when you do get to talk to one, he/she is not prepared to talk to you so she has to call you back. Never does.

Don't count on it. The excuses will continue.

No excuses. This will be the third year not making AYP....their accreditation will be in jeopardy and parents will have the option of schools in another county with transportation provided by polk. Surely someone, somewhere, will have pity on us and make some steps toward positive changes.

Election year - you'll be voting 2-3 new members onto the board so step up and know who your member is.

I plan on being there to cast my vote....I hope every single current board member is voted out...including marvin. There is no excuse for the shape our schools are in. I knew scores were low, but was horrified when I actually looked at the scores and compared them to schools in other counties. Last scores posted were from 2010, and showed only 62% of sixth graders met/exceeded standards in science...50 some odd percent in social studies, and 78% in math....and those scores were higher than the previous two years. My sixth grader has come home over the last two weeks with zero homework in science, social studies, and very.little in math. You'd think they would be sending home some type of review packets, but no....they have been reviewing some in class, and using those reviews as test grades, but nothing at home. I know my child will be ok; he consistently scores greater than 850 across the board...but I worry about the other children. With times like they are, these kids are going to need a top notch education to get jobs when they are grown...and polk county schools are not providing the foundation these kids need to be successful.

I agree about the homework. My kids hardly ever have any. I have gone to Barnes & Noble and gotten review books for them and have them do those on the days they have no work from school. I asked and was told the kids have too many after school activities (baseball, etc.) and that homework would put too much of a burden on their time. It is ridiculous.

Now I did call up there yesterday and they were real nice and helpful. I know from being a kid that everything that comes out of my kids mouth is not the truth. I can say this from coaching that some parents think there kids speak the gossiple

But teachers will also swear they told the students something - maybe some, not all. We been struggling with no communication with a teacher this year and even when you ask you get nothing

Ms. Fields got Coach Luke call me back and he was able answer my ? and solved my problem so I think that is how I would expect it to go. He also said that if I needed anything else to call him again. I guess I am one of the lucky few, I see no problem.
