So he took all the metal out of the building, sold the parking area to the fire company, owes $167,000 in taxes, and it's up for Sheriff's sale. Sounds perfect!... and it's right next to a former funeral home (aka dump) and an apartment building that isn't fit to store trash (dump)... Wait! Have you looked across Patterson Street - Elks building (dump), a garage (dump), the Silver's former furniture store (dump) etc., etc. etc. Then on Bertsch Street - an abandoned church and rectory. We ain't finished yet, folks ... take a ride down Ridge Street - fabulous "Downtown Lansford." Oh, yeah, Lansford will enact a Quality of Life ordinance next month. I can hardly wait! LOL

Well at least Lansford Alives former kingpin's building is all gone and cleaned up. Oh wait it was taxpayer money that did it. I guess once the soap company went under there wasn't enough soap to clean up the town

Cue the circus music
Webber knew a bunch of rubes when he saw them.
I remember a comment made on "Air your Ignorance" a few years ago that it cost Webber more money to have the side walks plowed after a snow than he paid for the building, that's if he had plowed the side walks which he never did.
Next up Kidde Cloths which is a even bigger eyesore.

The same thing that happens with all the big buildings there... when the school board won't let it get reassessed at a fair value and have a realistic tax that can actually be paid what does anyone expect. Yeah pay 150 for a building and it is still assessed over 2 million even though appraisers put it at 90,000....um...bonkers.. over 60,000 in taxes per year on a property that at most should bring in 6000 in taxes. What did they expect would happen to it.

They gave him tax free status for 2 years, that was plenty of time to fight the assessment, but he chose not to. He never had a realistic plan but I blame a lot on the borough, when Riteaid was trying to buy property in the borough from $1,000,000 they should have offered to let them build them a new fire house on some of the other bighted property in the borough and then help them aquire that whole block.

Yes you do appeal to the county which is what he did and the lawyer for the school board shot down the new appraisers figure which was very close to the same amount the appraiser for the school originally came up with when they tried to sell it in the first place. Search the article in the times news which was much smaller than this one. That whole area is backwards and always will be trying to balance the budget on blighted properties.

He did fight the assessment and appealed it as well. That article appeared in the times news but you got to love the one sided propaganda that town functions under to maintain control of the tax base.

He didn't even get a lawyer or appeal past the tax board in to the real court system. Like everybody said he didn't have a plan just a dream which was more of a nightmare

I believe going in front of Judge Serfass is the real court system, no? Truth be told that area just doesn't operate using all it's brain power.

Like I said he never took it before a real court system or used a real lawyer to present his case. If I had $60K plus a year riding on something, I think I'd put a lot more efford in it. I do wantto thank Adam for being foolish enough to take such a big liability off the school taxpayers hands. The nice thing is, once it goes in to the tax reposotory and gets sold, the value of the property will what ever it gets sold for.
