No one will like this buit they'll go ahead and keep electing the school board members won't they? It's no wonder nothing works any longer in this country. The politicians keeps screwing innocent people and the people keep re-electing them.

You have to be kidding? This is a joke right?

Have all the schools gone to the looney liberal left?

Is there no COMMON SENSE anymore?

Expelling a student over a toy gun or a sword?

Let's see - the students bought the souvenirs in EUROPE and did not bring them to school in the Twin Cities? The swords were several THOUSAND miles away from the schools. Can these administrators not tell the difference between real and fake? No, I guess that's why they are administrative wankers taking up too much of the school dollar.

Kinky Friedman wanted to stop the "wussification of Texas." I'm thinking the whole country needs to wake up, get some common sense, and grow a pair. Give me a break. Schools are coddling students so much today they're ill-prepared for the real world. Grrrrrrr...

"She said Minnesota law is vague and lacks a consistent standard, which can lead to students being punished excessively."

Gee, imagine that! What a bunch if clowns. Unfortunately, this is not atypical of a school board. Politics trump common sense again. This is exactly what is wrong with elected Boards, just look at Minneapolis and Saint Paul. Now add Apple Valley-Eagan to the long list.

Time for a wake up call. The school is overreaching into private life. The item were not even close to the school, which by the way is where the school influence should stop. The freaking nanny state runs amok!!!

Let's not give them any more money, though they'll be begging during the next referendum.... Government school administrators are idiots. It's time to break up their monopoly.

Lets see..."Had I let him off the hook, the signal would've gone to students that we didn't care about the policy,"
Hmmm..."Minnesota law is vague and lacks a consistent standard, which can lead to students being punished excessively."
Instead of treating children like felons, perhaps you should start TEACHING them instead!

Some one needs to be arrested for theft of private property! I would also sue the school for condoning this illegal confiscation of personal belongings. School boards have gotten so lazy that now no one wants to make a decision so they set 0 tolerance policies. The good students are punished but the bad students that disrupt class, cause fights, are loud and obnoxious are never punished because that might be some type of racial profiling.

I am very liberal as you know and even I think this is silly.
The only thing I would question is would they have had any trouble at airport security? I would guess not in checked luggage,so what would the problem be?If the chaperones were concerned, they could have kept the offending items with them or in the hotel office and just handed them to the kids parents at the other end of the trip. What's the problem? Most people who intend violence don't buy their weapons in front of their intended victims.

Another reason to reduce the pay of school administrators. They do not possess the ability to make real common sense judgements about any activities. We can simply hire a minimum wage flunky to read the manual and pass judgement. No skill required beyond being able to read.

Incidents like this prove just how far out of touch these people are with reality. Maybe it is time to implode the failed public school system and start over.

That is the most knee jerk reaction that I have ever heard of! The idiot that confiscated the swords should be liable for the entire costs to the students and never be allowed to accompany students on any other trips.

These peole are NUTS......Since when can a school dictate what kids can buy for souvenirs?

These people aren't educators, they are moronic robots that sit around and find problems so they can imprison and suffocate our kids. No wonder there is a huge upswing in kids going whack and going after these schools. They have been chastised bu these morons.

They take away sports, they take away a persons dignity, they take away all the basic freedoms and elements that allow kids to be kids and replace them with muslim foot baths, gay sanctuaries, yoga and other STUPID politically correct liberal crap.

If I was a kid today I'd get the dealth penality from these clowns for just being a kid. They love making our kids felons....a way they can control them to insure their future agendas with FEAR

We should all research these so called educators....find out what they did as kids and prosecute them with today's laws and see what happens....I bet they's repeal this insanity quickly.

Hooray!! Reading the comments that express outrage and disagreement regarding the action of the administration of these two schools tells me that there is intelligent life on this web site - but none exists at the Eagan and Apple Valley high schools.

No more cutlery for the lunchroom.

Bring your own lube for the new "strip search" entrances to the schools.

Now hiring: strip searchers, anyone can apply, we promise we won't do any kind of background check.

Gotta keep them kids safe!
