HI, I am the ditto queen, lol. When I started reading more comments, there was so many good points, I said , OK, no more dittos, my turn now.I work in a middle school, and you can't believe how the kids distract you, so you don't notice that their stealing food.I work in a cafe,,Grades 5-8.And what they pull, so they can rip you off , and part of the time, you do catch them and warn them.8th Graders having hickies on there neck. And wouldn't put it past me, doing drugs too.
I dont believe in cell phones, except for emergencies for kids or you can track conversation or something, can you tell I dont have 1?lol.
The kids engaged in it and the ones watching, should all be punished somehow and the teacher too, if neglectful. We have no idea how big or how the classroom is designed.
5th Grade is an excellent time for health, sex Ed, for our school anyways, since we have 5-8 grade. So they can learn even from oral sex, that they can get diseases.Parents shouldn't be afraid to talk to there kids and if start at 5th Grade in school, maybe make the initiative for parents to continue with the conversation.
Talk to your kids, be involved with them, keep them busy, afterschool activities and such, or even just hang out with your kids, when you still can, cause you know at 1 point, their not going to want to anymore.

Obviously the teacher wasn't paying attention. Not much has changed since I was in school. You get a substitute who sits on their ass with their nose buried in the newspaper or a book and gives out whatever assignment the absent teacher may have left, no one does it, they talk, they fool around, raise hell no wonder the sub had no idea what was going on. I am guessing the classroom was probably pretty big, maybe a dark corner, whatever. But the substitute needs to take responsibility for what happened and the students involved need to be punished. Parents also need to take some responsibility in educating their children about sex. In todays society sexual activity among middle school students is on the rise. You wouldn't believe the stories my boys tell me and they are in high school about girls and the things they do. I recall one time my son came home and I said to him I thought you were going out, he goes I was until some "ho" as he called her offered to give each and everyone of his friends a "blowjob" he said he was disgusted by her behavior and left and I said well how many of your friends were there, he goes there was about 8 of us and she got on her knees and started making the rounds and he left. If theres one thing I have always stressed with my boys is sex is inevitable, very few people "save" themselves for marriage these days and if you are going to have sex in anyway shape or form, use protection. No protection, no sex and I have drummed that into their heads for a long time and I'd like to think that they listened. The best thing a parent can do today is encourage and maintain open lines of communication with their children, let them know its ok to come to them with anything, no matter what it is. I have that kind of relationship with my boys and I think all parents need to do the same instead of burying their heads in the sand and pointing fingers at everyone else. Todays girl are a hell of alot faster and looser than they were when I was in high school and they are willing to do just about anything to be accepted by boys and to keep their boyfriends, their mentality is, if I don't do it, someone else will and I will lose him. Its disgusting. So in my opinion theres alot of blame to go around here, first to the substitute for not paying attention, the parents for not maintaining open lines of communication and educating their children about sexual behavior. Just my two cents

Kids are 10 years old in 5th grade...I just think that's too young to be learning about sex.....I think talking about your BODY and DEVELOPMENT is very important. I would sit down and talk to my children about that, and I guess with that comes a sex talk or what not, but I just couldn't imagine a middle school child doing something like this. When my brother learned about sex after his sex ed class is 6th or 7th grade he asked me if "it could get stuck" while having sex. And now we have kids doing this stuff in class. I just can't wrap my mind around it guess is all. The whole situation just makes me SO confused about the world today....
