(apologies for the sloppiness of that post... It was done by voice while driving) By "clandestine " funds I mean "discretionary" funds appropriates by Congress without their advance knowledge of how they would be used. The CIA and the NSC took an ever-increasing role in foreign policy from Truman through Nixon. Indeed, by the Nixon Administration, the Secretary of State, the senior officer of the president's cabinet, had become little more than a bureaucratic administrator and secondary advisor. William P. Rogers, who held that post from Jan 1969 until Sept 1973, had almost nothing to do with any significant foreign policy. During the Ford Administration, Congress turned the executive agencies inside out--a reaction to its Watergate abuses--and made it illegal for the President to order the assassination of any foreign leader (as had been undertaken on occasion via CIA Black Ops, notably Ngo Dinh Diem and his brother in '63, Trujillo in '65, and Allende in '73, and the attempts on Castro and, earlier, on Nasser) or to stage bloodless coups (the overthrow of Iran's elected government restoration of the Peacock Throne to power in '53)Prior to 1983, the sort of transactions of the Iran-Contra Affair had been legal. None of these were "official" policy.
I don't know if driving while texting by voice is illegal in Pennsylvania, but I've reported your dangerous behaviour to the Pennsylvania Highway Patrol. They are now "tracking you", and will arrest you "any day now".

MM: I think Churchill advised Truman that unbeknownst to him (Churchill) Britain had already developed its' own nuclear bomb under the former PM. Naturally it had to have already been developed as Churchill would NEVER have allowed construction w/o seeking US approval....(maybe that is a projection !)

MM: in '52 Churchill advised US Britain had already developed an a-bomb and had capacity to produce more. OF COURSE- this was done ;unbeknownst to Churchill, by the former gov't of PM Attlee(?). This particular "state of the art" weaponry was not provided by USA. Poor Churchill- unaware of that and had to 'fess up the rude manners of the Labour Gov't.... ho hum !!

Katie: I did google Strangeways and lots of info. The riot - awful !! Have you met anyone from either side of the bars who was there during that riot ? Oh yes- what is a "quick hanging" ? Was that executioner the same fellow engaged to execute the women sentenced to death penalty(war crimes) in Germany following WW11 ??

KM: when u r up'n'about and "after church" please consider Sir Art, Bob and I will appreciate a prison tour while in the area for the gathering. Now- w/o asking I am certain an all male prison is not in order so do you have an all female prison in the area. If not- we will arrange to drop Sir Art off at an all girl college campus while Bob & I scour the bar districts. I do not know if Zuiko has limo service for Manchester but Broken Arrow may shuttle him around on her lumber yard machine-- Bob and I will hotwire a car. What can we bring you from Canada- if you enjoy american beer then you would be ecstatic with canadian beer and Bob has contacts in the field. I could bring along Newfoundland Screech but Sir Art may find that rum not acceptable and definitely Bob's Alcool would be rejected. Nova Number is nice but a little too powerful for novice.... questions and responsibilities ...maybe a beaver pelt hat ?

I'll bring a bottle of Unibroue's "Fin de Monde", which is something like 9 or 10% alcohol. We'll tell the Brits it's one of Quebec's "lite" beers.(heh-heh-heh!)

Since: Jan 13

Location hidden

I'd still prefer Guinness Irish beer, and a tour of the prison with a stop for a shower under the watchful eyes of the female guards.
At the momment this is not possible because I am spending winter on a tropical island paradise. We shall see come Summer.

Bob: excellent suggestion- bring lots and we will encourage Katie to showcase it to patrons of her "moonshine"- location, location is a key to getting market share- great idea.... Enjoy the tropics Zuiko, your requests are a "given" to entice you to the gathering- gonna take quite a while to arrange the shin-dig !

To Coyote hello yes it was the same executioner except for four hangings of nazi women, thhey were carried out by Ms Wilson who was Govenor of the womens part of the prison she executed four of the most famous female nazi war criminals.Coyote no i have never met anyone that was in Strangeways at the time of the riot(1/4/90).But there are prison officers that still work there that were they when the riot kicked off,so i know more about that riot than most people.Coyote did you see where my old school was? and did you see the Berwick arms? Well at least you know the sights of my work place area-iam going to write a thread about HMP Manchester soon good history will turn up on that thread.Katie Mellish xxxxxx.

Coyote, MM has had it in for me ever since I outed him on this forum as a moron. He created this "you raped my son" nonsense in an attempt to insult/humiliate me, but has not succeeded. At some point you have to put your money where your mouth is, and he never does. I'm still here, still visiting my favourite haunts on St Denis, while he blathers away about "the local and federal" and "I am tracking you", and how I will be arrested "any day now", etc etc etc.
Yet one year later, here I am, still a free man, still a free-thinking (and free-drinking) man, with nary the local nor the federal in sight.
I too, shudder to think what may lie ahead... more threats, and more posturing, and more bluster from MM??
I think I'll have another drink.
No, Bob. I had it in for you long before you ever called me a moron. Besides, as I have told you often, I love it when you do. How can a blithering idiot's addressing me thus possibly arouse any anger, much less any desire to go out to get you? Nobody of your stature and grace could ever insult me. Think again of "why".

Let's be clear about one thing. Stalin authorized the sales of Czech weaponry to Israel in 1948 because he was interested in removing British influence from the Middle East, not because of any fondness for Israel or Jews. In fact, Stalin's antisemitism was second only to Frankenberger's (remember the doctor's plot; fortunately for Khrushchev and co., Stalin died before the purge that Stalin planned got underway).
After the British were ousted from Palestine, Stalin and his successors had no further need for Israel, which consequently developed a de facto alliance with France which became its primary weapon supplier until 1967. The Israeli nuclear reactor at Dimona was built and financed by France and is the source of Israel's nuclear capability, which may amount to as many as 5 or 6 hundred devices, depending on who you listen to (the DIA estimates 80, former Dimona technician Mordechai Vanunu estimates 200, Rev. John Steinbach estimates 5 to 6 hundred).
Cherry picking projects financed by tgose outside the US does not refute anythi.g I have said. I am talking about a long-term strategy of which the immediate recognition and enless support of Israel's defense in the region was merely a part. Isolated acts undertaken outside the U S does not mean that theywent ahead in the absence of far greater US effort (Stalin), did not justify greater US effort (again, Stalin), or otherwise preclude the silent partnership of the US (nearly every other pro-Israeli effort not credited publicly to the US). Your sources, whatever they are, ignore the reality of US effort, largely succesful if not always right in the long run, to ensure its domination of every region that had not yet succumbed to Soviet influence. And that included, at the outset of the Cold War, virtually everywhere that the USSR did not have troops on the ground in 1945.. You are naive to think that HST, given his virulent Anti-Soviet, anti-Stalin conviction would have done any less. Read more, listen more, and get the big picture. It was a different world, and it was high tide for the US and its influence. That influence was not incidental. Or cheap.

Besides, if any money was to be made by defense contractors after the war, it was going to be made by the exploding (no pun intended) US defense industry, with sufficiently generous payoffs to responsible politicians and military officials to guarantee it.

To Coyote hello here is a little bit more information on HMP Manchester aka Strangeways prison.HMP Manchester is haunted by two ghosts the first ghost is of John Ellis the hangman who i think shot himself in 1922.And the second ghost is of the executed murderess Margaret Allen. The area where the gallows were is now a store room,i have been in that room a few times the gallows beam is still there in place between the rooms two side walls.Coyote the executioner who executed nazi war criminals was Albert Pierpoint it was him who carried out the 7 second hanging.7 Seconds from condemned cell, handcuffed.pinioned, place d on the gallows then noose, cap, pull the lever-drop,dead.All in 7 seconds Albert Pierpiont knew his job he was the fastest hangman the world has ever known. One man who was executed there was Buck Ruxton he was a doctor my Grandman on my mums side of the family was on the jury at his trial.Ruxton was executed in 1936.Coyote just wait for my two articles that i will post soon one is about the history of Ancoats and the other is about the history of HMP Manchester.I think you will find both of them interesting, takecare Coyote-Katie Mellish xxxxxx.
