San Bernardino City Schools need to focus more on the needs of English Language Learners and the Latino population. I am glad to see the great number of Hispanics that are being promoted as admiinstrators. There is not enough being done for our Spanish speaking students and it a good thing that the district is starting to make that its number one priority.

Not enough is being done to make sure English Language Learners students learn English. The district continues to coddle hispanic students. Millions of dollars have been wasted on Spanish textbooks, bilingual teachers, and mandatory training of teachers.(Currently eight days-total waste of time) Everything about "helping" English Language Learners comes down to low expectation, less work, and no rigor for Ells. After 3 years (federal requirement), any ELL who hasn't been reclassified as proficient should be retained. All Ells should have to stay after school for additional tutoring. Parents need to get the message. Your kid needs to learn to read and write in ENGLISH! Too many mamas tell their little mijos, "You don't have to learn English."

Do you have a clue what you are talking about?! Millions of dollars and hours have been spent on teaching non-native English speakers English. Bill is correct--kids should not be allowed to progress without speaking English. There are PLENTY of Hispanic administrators in the district...frankly, I don't care if the administrators are from Mars as long as they are STRONG administrators...!

Oh, Board--quit talking about involving the community! You declined a huge amount of support from the community by turning your backs on the Promise Neighborhoods group....

Nothing will change.

We will see how this leadership has changed the future of our students. How can Tex Acosta claim there will been a positive outcome when in fact he was a Vice Principle at the same location without leadership. Now were suppose to believe he is going to make this big change and improve our students education. Hell, under his leadership we (Pacific) lost a great auto Mechanics program to Cajon High School and replaced it with an ROP Construction program. What a loss to our students. Rebecca Harper sounds like a sell out to the Teachers of San Bernardino City Schools. As far as I know she has done nothing to help the Teachers in this process; except get paid buy union dues. The teaches need a better union. Gil Navarro, please, why does the Sun continue to seek his comments. He is a joke to the Hispanic community. He does not speak for the legal Hispanics for our community. So stop using him as a spokesman for our community. Will see this new Year. Same leadership, New inexperience Teachers, same students, and removal of committed Teachers: No I dont think your going in the right direction. Its going to fail sure as the leaders are failures.

Couple of questions: 1. Could The Sun could dig a little deeper and identify the incoming principals and teachers at the affected schools and tell us where the former principal and any teachers moved from the schools went?
2. Why is Gil "the mouth" Navarro the only county school board member contacted for a comment on anything to do with pubic education? There are other board members who could -- and should -- chime in on these issues, not to mention the county superintendent of schools.

What is this constant praise for Mr. Delgado from the Sun newspaper? Why don’t you do some real reporting and find out what he is really doing. Is attack on the personnel Commission is none stop? Go to the meetings and see what is going on. He is attacking the Merit System with tax payer’s money thru numerous frivolous lawsuits. Guess which Judge heard one of the cases, conflict of interest? Human resource with the board will not hire a commissioner they do not like, even though the person was hired thru a fair and equal process. Maybe the fair and equal process was the problem????

He does not what the Merit System to exist in HIS school district. Yes it is his schools district. It appears that he want to hire friend , relatives, like his brother the Principal, and any other person he feels that he wants to give a tax payer job to, no matter of qualification or ability to perform the job. He obviously does not believe in an equal and fair hiring process. Where are you the so call fair media? He is a dictator who has destroyed are schools. The San Bernardino School will never get better until he finds another place to make HIS own. Where are the so called school board members? This is a shame that this man can use tax payer’s money to destroy the school for his own personnel use. Wake up San Bernardino and ask questions, go to the board meeting, the personnel commission meetings, call Mr. Delgado office, Call Judy White, call Yolanda Ortega,(find out how she got her job(), Mel Obiso,(checkout how he got is job and his promotions). How did Mel’s daughter get her job? Ask the board members how there relatives got their jobs.

Mel Obiso tells the classified employees that the Commission is not doing their job. Mel must have forgotten that a “judge” stop the commission from implementing new rules or performing their duties as applied to classified employee. So, the commission can not do anything until the lawsuits are resolved. You know Mel, one of the many lawsuits that Mr. Delgado has served on the commission. What is it that Mr. Delgado does not like about the Merit System Personnel Commission?

I definately do not agree with you Ellie. These hispanic adiminstrators are only there for hispanic students, especially illegal immigrant students. That's all they care about. A bunch of these administrators need to be fired and replaced with ones who care about all kids, not just hispanics. Some of the ones that should be gettting pink slips include Mel Albiso, Elsa Valdez and others. Gil Navarro needs to lose his county school board seat as well. His alleigence is to Mexico, despite the fact that he served in the military. And although he is not associated with the school district, Joe Baca needs to be defeated and thrown out of office this November for the same reason.

The District is grateful that the Sun is not addressing the multi million dollar personnel commission problem. Look at all the office staffs that have been decimated only to be replaced with bilingual staff. The Sun did an expose years ago. Charlotte Hsu, a Sun reporter was on it. Too bad she left. She published a piece about the Personnel Commission and its law breaking. Delgado claimed there was a written agreement with the Classified Union to let the District take over the merit system. When Charlotte asked to see a copy of the agreement, Delgado replied "Just because I haven't seen it does not mean it doesn't exist." and that was that. Also, in Freedom Fridays, published by the Sun, there was a piece about district hiring complaints. When asked to access them, the reporter was told they were in a filing cabinet that was lost in a move. I can't believe the Sun is sitting on top of this huge story. Go figure....there must be some sort of agreement or arrangement not to pursue this huge story!!! How legit is the story??? Look at the MILLIONS in legal fees!!!!!!!!!! Or ignore them, as the Sun is.

I agree with you 100 percent, but there's a couple of things I would like to point out. First off, Mel's last name is ALBISO, not Obiso. Secondly, this jackass (Albiso) is also a school board member on the Colton Joint USD's board. He is up for election in November. VOTERS OF COLTON: Don't make the same mistake twice. Don't vote for Mel Albiso this November. Now if only the SB School Board can fire him like they should, then things would really improve.

Acosta with Delgado's rear at his lips involuntarily transferred 9 teachers who had stood up to him in the past(and not in the real estate industry)and brought in many young(of course female) teachers with no experience. Morale is at an all-time low. The clerical were told they were lucky to just have jobs. Losing auto shop(and the solar boat champions two years running), some very good teachers, some very good clerical staff, and our principal and two vice principals weren't the type of changes we thought we were going to get back in the 'charter days'.

There has never been more true words spoken! Those who got out were lucky. It's going to be a HUGE political nightmare. Acosta ONLY cares about his image and what things look like on the outside. I bet we'll be seeing PHS in the newspaper every 3 seconds now since he loves calling the newspaper to talk about the school and make himself look good. That's what politicians do. Anyone who has ever interacted with him knows that that's exactly what he is; a politician. He is here to serve himself, and himself only. He's a lot like his good friend, the principal over at SBHS. They have lots in common. Lots.

Both Principals are Hispanic, is that what you are meaning? We need more Hispanic administrators!!!!! It doesn't matter how much or what kind of experience they have, the number one priority is to saturate the district with our people!!! And you can't stop us because the Board is behind us.

Nooo, don't be so naive. What "blah" meant is that they are both unethical, double standard and dishonest leaders. Good friends is being nice, they are much more than that!!!!!

Don't you love how the district gets Bilingual parents to go to the Board and demand more resources for their kids? You know they were told what to do and say by the district. And then the pro bilingual board members vote to give the bilinguals more money. How convenient.

Don't you love how the inside district administration gets the bilingual parents to rally and go the Board to demand more bilingual resources for their children? You know they are coached on what to do and say. Since when do these parents, some who can barely speak English and are not educated themselves, demand more assessment and interventions for their American born children? And the probilingual board members sympathetically listen and vote to give them more resources. It is all a set up aimed at the continued elevation and promotion of one race over another. Another ploy is to file a Department of Justice complaint claiming unfair treatment of bilinguals. We also know who is responsible for this. There are foxes in the hen house and they are having a feast.

I remember a principal at Pacific High School that cared about the kids. Sure it was a different time and school, but we loved Dr. Bailey. He didn't threaten teachers and stalk students to make his numbers look better. He actually cared about everyone. He just seemed to want to give the students the best education and experience possible. It seems that test numbers are all that matters now.

And EVERY SINGLE PERSON KNOWS IT!!! It's kind of like how when someone is very obviously gay, but denies it, but they know that you know, and everyone knows. But regardless, they still deny it. Well, that's them and their "friendship." The best part is that no one even cares. The only reason people ever bring it up is because they insist on denying it. To the "Sue" lady that commented about them being Hispanic, uhm, yeah, no. "Viva la raza," but do you really want our people to be represented by "unethical, double standard and dishonest leaders?" If that's what you want, go to Mexico. I hear that's how things have been run their for years, but then again, everyone from there is doing everything they can to come here, so maybe it's not such a good idea.

You said it perfectly, they will deny it to their grave. We don’t care, but we sure are nosy and dying to know what she’s really giving him. Everyone knows that the better looking one does not have to do anything. They could have been great leaders, yet chose a different path. If they were White, they would have been replaced, but because they are Hispanic, administration ignoring this behavior.

All leaders at PHS have issues. Oh yes, starting with Acosta and Lovett. All they talk about is the "wonderful changes they are planning to create." However all they know how to create are babies!!
