some parents dont get that if their kids really tried and didnt slack off they would not receive a rejection letter.it is not very hard to get a 4.0 GPA or even superior to that.

I recently got into university of Florida which has been my dream school since as long as I can remember. I'm not an excellent test taker so my highest test score was on the ACT:21. Not too good huh? My GPA which I worked very hard for is a 4.2 I'm in about 4 Clubs and I've had a job for most of highschool. I got into UF but the spring session; which I'm surprised i got in at all. You don't have to be a genius to get in, just take honors,AP Classes, and dont slack off your freshman and sophomore years of highschool and you should be fine.

I need some extra help. The University of Florida is my dream school. I have been a gator fan since I was old enough to talk, but it is such a hard school to get into... I can only make a 4.00 once in a blue moon. I never get bad grades, I am just not the top rank in my school. I get better grades than most students at my school... and UF is turning down so many great students and I am terrified I wont get in. Its the best school in the state and one of the best in the nation, and they only take the best... which sucks for the rest of us average Joes.

Did your kid go to LCS? I wonder if her rejection is because it's a christian school. Any suggestions on what I could do different for my private school child?

tim, if this is really you. Some advice please. My daughter applied to UF and just received her rejection notice last night. We were all shocked. She carried a 4.07, 4.3, 4.5, 4.5, 9th -12th respectively. A 30 Act. Senior Class vice president. A Slew of volunteer hours. More honors than you care to read. Cheerleader Co Captain 11th and Capt 12th. Homecoming Princess 11th and Queen 12th (nominated by peers based upon positive character traits,(Christian School)). FCA officer, FC Cheerleaders All-Star and on and on. A truly beautiful person on the outside but more importantly truly beautiful on the inside. Couldn't have worked harder or done more. What gives. Just don't get it?

I feel exactly the same ! Gators have been my life since I was born & it is expected of me to get in but what if I don't ? I honestly don't know what I'll do...I've been trying so hard to make a 4.0 & get involved but I still feel like it isn't enough because I screwed up my freshman year, so what are the odds I'll be accepted ?

Sounds like your daughter really deserves it. It isn't the end though, she can always re-apply.

If getting in as a freshman is important to you than go for it! When I was going to school there this was next to impossible, for me to get in as a freshman was not worth the paper used to write the essay. If you would like to save some time, money and end up with the same degree with a lot less headache consider transferring in from a community college with an AA degree. Before you transfer you might want to brush up on basic math and writing skills because the transition will be quite a shock after your community college experience. This was the road I took and it ended up working out great in the end.

Sometimes colleges see students as over qualified, and think that they may pass over their acceptance for acceptance into a better school. A lot of times, this is why the superior student may get overlooked. I don't think it's exactly fair, but it's very true.

Not to be a smart allic but a 1270 on the sat is not very high at all. I paid to take the sat in 7th grade and made a 1250.

Well, If they let anyone in the college then the classes would be slower, professors would constantly have to stop and repeat themselves, and the school would be awful as a whole. Don't you think the students that worked hard and recieved the high scores deserve to get into better schools than the students that goof off and don't do anything in high school? Colleges want serious students, not ones that would bring the school down.

As an AP student at a school where it seems like anyone with a pulse can take AP classes, I see your angle. The kids in my class wouldn't read, didn't pay attention, and probably most of them failed the AP exam. That being said, there's a difference between a kid who works hard, cares about learning and doesn't have the highest GPA than a kid who just slacks off.
It's so competitive to get into college these days. Not just anybody should get accepted of course, but in a world where so many people are cramming AP's into their schedule and doing so well on SAT's, a average looks like a C and the 'B' kids just can't keep up. I meanI took all AP's and will take 3 SAT subject tests not to stand out, but to keep up!
It's so much harder now to stand out for colleges when there's so much emphasis on grades, extracurricular, community service, SATs, and everything.
Colleges need to realize that even if someone isn't a superstar, he still can be successful and a good student.

What was your SAT score and everything else like? and what year did you get accepted?
Hearing that you got in with a 2.1 gives me hope, but how well did you do on everything else?
