The whole truth about Superstorm Sandy and climate change

Full story: The Washington Post

When it comes to climate change and its effect on Superstorm Sandy, it seems many of the loudest voices fall into two camps: 1) the all-in camp: climate change is making the weather more extreme, and Sandy is the poster child for that.

The world has remained at average temp of 59 degrees for the last 40 years. Global warming -- or "climate change," whatever the progressives are calling it these days -- is a hoax that is being used to redistribute TRILLIONS.

And how is that? Whose "trillions" are taken and to whom are they "redistributed"?

I do hope George provides his reason(s) for the "redistribution" statement. Good topic.....

I am not in disagreement with GW but must point out the evidence of (at least some) global warming by virtue of the large centuries old arctic ice fields now releasing into the N. Atlantic. Something happening it seems but acc to Bible the earth flooded at least once a no.of years ago and I guess fellow named Noah got a lot of patents from that happening so yes a lot of money is to be had by some !

But this evil transfer of great wealth from the deserving, peaceful humanitarians to the Anarchists determined to destroy mankind with their Big Lie: I want the facts about them

I did not read anything about the transfer you describe-- only about redistribution and the possible hoax which is a cause for same. Eg.- I paid $70.00 for "appropriate leaf bags" in order to "get rid of the leaves"- used to have neighborhood parties burning the leaves- no more !!! Buy the proper bags- fill 'em- put 'em by roadside on particular day and then pay an authorized hauler to take them away.

Any "redistribution" of wealth is, by definition, a transfer of wealth. My question is embellished with indications of the extent to which I regard the premise of the initial statement as credible. There are those who believe that climate change is a hoax perpetrated for financial gain. The evidence of individual efforts to profit unjustifiably from it exists--as it does in virtually every endeavor; scamming is a modern phenomenon of human nature--but to use them to discredit the reality is ridiculous. It's the sort of argument that The Pill would make: he relies exclusively on anecdotal evidence, extrapolates it to global proportions, and declares it as The Truth.

MM- maybe you should not have posed the question about the age of the earth- I think it may have diverted Geo's attention away from his posted topic. A math class I attended had an eccentric prof and if we wanted to get class dismissed someone would ask him to illustrate a line to eternity- he would attch chalk to a pointer and start a line from the classroom- out across parking lot and the last we would see of him would heading downtown still drawing the line and lecturing on a line to eternity. I think he smoked odd looking cigs b4 class began....

Coyote: I was giving him the litmus test of the extreme right-wing, Christian fundamentalist tea-party true believer. They (and "they" include dozens of Republican members of Congress) believe, despite all evidence to the contrary, that the Earth is no more than five thousand years old and was created in six days. They all deny the existence of climate change, maintain that it is,a BIG LIE and a huge scam. I guess the phenomenon of heat melting ice is contrived by profit-seekers.

Is that a generalization from a die-hard Democrat or is there an element of such leaning among the Republican members ? From way up here in the tundra I thought the "Tea Party Reps." were subdued- totally misunderstand the situation I guess. Not aware we have a similar group in any of our political parties of stature but for sure if that is est. in a USA major we will inherit it b4 long.

not sure about the moon as all they brought back and declared were rocks and dust-- possibly the "redistributors- Kraft and/or Saputo- are negotiating with NASA...... but the earth I am pretty sure is as portrayed- a globe ! Least wise Jules Verne thought so and I go along with him.....

BIG GUY has to figure in on economics- the seasonal lobster harvest had produced less and less for years and the price per lb. was "out'a whack" This years harvest from Gulf of Maine and our Atlantic coast has really caught the harvesters and buyers off guard as the yield is 10 times what has been experienced. Aquaculture folks are saying the warmer waters are the reason in that the natural predator (groundfish) move away from the warmer waters.... So- price per lb. is peaking at $3/lb. versus $4.50 to $5.50. The trouble is the price available does not allow sustainability (uuhhh- time for S. Walton school of business-EFFICIENCY) and thousands of the lobsters in captivity will perish-- waste ! Say what GW !!
