Can the school be saved? Does anyone know? It's a shame, kids suffer.

Really? Why are you reading an article like this and responding to comments that really are not relevant to the overall message. The point is that many students are at loss because of the corruption and misappropriation of funding and it's a shame that the teachers get the blame because of it. But I guess you missed that.

I got my degree from UTEP. Where did you get yours?
And, it is EPSOE.

Too Much fun at the EPSOE Ended with a:

"If anyone's going to run this school in to the ground it will be me" This is a J. L. Lewis Famous Quote.

Remember those words?

New report from the T.E.A. states since the school was not up to standards they will lose their accreditation retroactivally meaning for the last year children will have to repeat their current grade irrespective of their test scores and GPA.
Actually, I intend on going to special ed and demand the most expensive evaluation I can get away with. Then I will be placed at a grade level of my choosing with benefits of special ed.

No, this is the law of nature. The school must be put down, in order for others to learn from their mistake. We are not doing anything humane or beneficial to this community by bailing it out.
A good example is the money hole EPISD has become. Its Central Office staff enjoys the benefits of a good life while the taxpayer continues to get shoddy service. If it wasn't so obvious, why would the FBI be here to look at the practices of an academically recognized school system?

Former Teacher at EPSOE wrote:
As a former teacher who was fully certified during my employment at the school, I find it offensive that people who do not know the "history" or "real story" behind the teachers are saying that instructors at EPSOE do not have a high school diploma and such. Many people who teach or have taught at EPSOE are recent graduates from UTEP or local Alternative Certification programs who were unable to find positions in the public school system because of a saturation of teachers. The problem with the El Paso School of Excellence is/was in the administration and the personal interests of the people who were running a business, rather than a school. Many times, teachers with the students' best interests were knocked down or moved to another grade level in order to not be successful with the students, in order for the administration to have grounds for termination. I believe that many teachers, although not all, did the very best they could with the students with very little, including resources that were "begged, borrowed, or stolen," often materials that were bought out of pocket or materials that were so old and worn out that they may as well have been non-existent. Up until SY 2008-2009, the teachers did not have working computers or printers in the classsrooms. So, for having so little, it must be said that the teachers tried very hard and many students were successful.
It is important for the public to know that the school was run by corrupt individuals who inflicted their highly religious views on the teachers and students, and if you did not belong to the Pentecostal church that was run by J.L. and Ila Lewis, you were not worthy of their support and were criticized on your teaching techniques and strategies. Aside from the fact that they made the female teachers were skirts and pantyhose because that was "professional dress."
I am sad to see this school close down, because many students are quite successful in the smaller group classrooms and two grade levels of my students will now be displaced, along with my many teacher friends who will be looking for jobs, but I am pleased that the owners of this school are finally getting what has been coming to them for a while now.

I too agree with you! Although I'm not a former teacher of EPSOE, my wife was! She IS a certified teacher. She too would bust her butt trying to teach kids at EPSOE with little to no resources or support. My wife would come home and tell me about all the "added responsibilities" placed on them that no other teacher in the big districts would put up with. Add to that how much emphasis the "administration" placed on the teachers dress code, instead of putting that emphasis on making sure the students had a decent classroom, books, playground, etc. I know this because I would have to go help my wife set up her classroom every year! The students that had their classrooms in the portion of the building that was part of the strip mall didnt even have a playground to use. The students had to settle with running back and forth behind the building in an alley! What kind of crap is that! The Lewis clan got what was coming to them and not a moment too soon!

Very sorry to hear about your wife's butt. I hope that she was able to get it fixed and that you provided the proper support, encouragement and nurturing that she needed to make it through such a traumatic time.

First of all this is slander and I will contact my attorney. I was not doing anything illegal and was not fired. What happened at Da Vinci is that they have teachers with no certifications. If you take a look at SBEC site you will see that anyone : a parent a teacher anyone can look to see what a teacher's certifications are. In adttion you should check your sources.
Get over yourself. Slander? What a joke it is called opinion. Also, there is not much you can do over a few typed words and a copy and paste screen name. Someone with your education should know that.

I wonder if Sylvia Arriaga was running that school too? Arriaga got fired from the Da Vinci school because of mismanagement and because she was doing illegal background checks.
This is inaccurate. There was no illegal background checks. It is public record for any teacher's credentials to be online under sbec. Furthermore, she was asking why so many teachers at Divnci were not qualified to teach . They had no credentials.. that school has been exposed! any other false information regarding her will be sent to the attorney for liable malice charges!

Me and Petro enrolled in that school and they kicked us out for hitting on third-grade boys. They deserve to fail for making us feel guilty.

I have pictures of her DWI arrest. Can I post those onto this thread? After all the pictures are a matter of public record.
