From the article:"As a point of distinction here, yours truly detests tax subsidies, and isn't crazy about tax credits and writeoffs either. The tax code should be used to pay for legitimate government purposes, meaning only those necessary to protect God-given rights, not to reward and punish or pick winners and losers."

Very Naive! The 150 year old fossil fuel industry has a lot of clout (Worldwide) is not about to let some scrawny little alternative fuel industry to come along and push it out of the way after 150 years of institutionalized power production. The thing the electric industry needs to promote is online utility storage of energy. Then, you have the driver in place to support energy storage, power grid smoothing and regulation, no matter what generates the power, solar, wind, hydro, geothermal, nuclear, coal or natural gas. As for the 1% for solar PV, if all the homes in the U.S. were to put a 4KW peak solar PV system on their roofs, you could generate on average 2TW of power each day, where it would be used by the home, during peak demand times of the day. As for drill baby drill, that's great, but as businessmen, the oil conglomerates will still look for min/max. The minimum use of capital to get the maximum amount of money for the product. If another country will buy a barrel of crude for more than American entities, then it goes out of the country. The long term committment to solar for personal use is a legacy one can pass on to future generations.
