I think it is a sad event. The presence of american soldiers in Manta has estimulated the economy of that important port.

The president of Ecuador has such hate for USA that is making him blind. I feel sorry for the people of Ecuador

Rachel, you are right. The Gringos who had the great honor and pleasure of working in Manta did add to the economy of Manta and the surrounding area. And these Gringos were also rewarded by the fantastic experience of living in such an exciting place and making many great amigos y amigas in Ecuador. It is really too bad that Presidente Correa cannot see the real truth about the politics of South America, and this will not be good for Ecuador in the short term or in the long term. Es verdad.

You're both full of crap. America needs to keep its sticky fingers out of other countries business. It isn't our responsibility to police other people. This is why the world hates us.

dear randy, the world "hates" us cause they're jealous of what we have. simple freedoms that they can't have. by the way randy, there are several countries with their sticky fingers in OUR business. stealing classified info, instigating trouble in the poorer neighborhoods, flying jets into our buildings. don't you think we should have reasons to "hate" these countries?
even obama is now realizing that the sanctions and all the time-wasting talk with iran is finally a waste of time. things are getting more interesting. and wait till you see what happens in south america. places like paraguay and others will beg us terrible gringos for help. and like the idiots we are, we'll be happy to help.

well i just want to coomment on all i have rea. i think each country has to take care of thier own problems but im sorry the usa has one of the worst health care systems in the worldfor its own people so i think the usa needs to take care of thier own people frist.. also im sure america is a great places to live in.. but i feel sorry for the new generations due to teh fact the obesity is taking over the usa yes i said be all u can be usa.. Create false wars just to seek other people intresed and greet.. so gringos take care of your own and deal with all the crime you have due to lack of education system so u have a better society .. other countries my be poor but people are happy and dont seek greed ... well put it this way america was built by immigrants... also i like teh slogan america has teh land of the free ... i believe the land of the free if you are upper class but if u are midddle class u arejust another number been controlled by the goverment.. so gringos mind ur own business.. and stay out of other countries and take care of your own problems cause there is alot of poeple with lack of intelegence in the middle class..

Randy and Juan. I am sorry to say but you both seem to live in an isolated world. America as a rich and powerful country has responsibilities not only for his own land security, but for the peace in the rest of the world. Juan, if America is only for the upper class and middle class why so many people want to come to live here? If they are so happy living poorly in their countries. How come they take the chace to be kill to come to America?. As far as the worst health care in America, obbesity and crimen. I think you need to get more information and less hate for America. Our health care is the best in the world, but the government wants to get their sticky finger on it. Crimen is as bad here as in other countries, but our law enforcement is more efficient and we can trust that it is justice for all in America.

Rachel, you can't really can't believe that crap can you? First of all did you ever stop and think that one of the reason why Latin America is so jacked is due to all of the meddling by the WEST and the support it has given brutal murderous Dictaotorships, is no wonder why people would risk life or limp to escape the likes of Gen. Augusto Pinochet. The Shah of Iran, Suharto of Indonesia, Mogutu, Papa Doc aka Baby Doc, and today we support Uribe, and we all know that Colombia has the worse civil rights in "South America"

Rachel, give me a break we have the best health care system in the world, please, and as far as crimes goes take a good long look at our Nations Capital, then take a good long look at the Big Easy!

New Orleans, talk about a heaven for crime! But again the reason for that is the US cares so much about the rest of the World, and is so rich and powerful it can't even take care of it's own people, but it has the time to care about others LMFAO!

Steve, terrible to have to admit when you're wrong but it's an enlightening feeling. Try it. Rachel is absolutely right. So many of my amigos y amigas in: Ecuador, Honduras, Estonia, and other places would sell their mother for a visa to the USA. Health care in the States is far better than most places. As for our crime, well it is very bad in many of our cities and I have felt safer walking the calles en los barrios than when I was walking in New Orleans or D.C. But the police in America will not demand a bribe when you leave the country as they do in so many other countries.

PS, JUAN is right about the Obesity in the USA. What FAT GRINGOS y GRINGAS! Want to know why? Because the majority of them can afford to buy a car and they will never walk 1/2 mile to the market to buy food. Gringos are lazy, and I wish I could lose 20 pounds. But I like my cerveza and cheese burgers after playing golf.

Rachel, keep up the good spirit! VIVA USA!!

hey room stop living in black and white...Oh the USA is the best, Oh the USA is the worst...
we have got our plusses and many want to move here and at the same time MANY people hate us and it's not because they are "jealous" of our freedoms, that is absurd. it's for many reasons, some of which is our egotisitical world outlook, our meddling where we shouldn't and mostly when we sell arms to their enemies or get involved in paramilitary exercises (like this whole anti- cocaine/marijuana operation that is attcacking (right or wrong) someone else's livelihood, now that pisses off the cocalero cartels, the opium trade, the oil cartel, the African warlords, the list goes on...so less US presence is seen as a good thing to many folks, time will tell if they are right...

dear rasster, certainly you make some good points. but just imagine for one minute a world without us terrible gringos. but when there are devastating natural calamities like hurricanes, floods or earthquakes you know the terrible gringos will come with aid. true, we are not perfect. but a simple gracias once in a while would be nice. and you are right about this also: time will tell.

Back to the point, I for one really appreciated the opportunity to live and work in Manta as a member of "Gringolandia". I had the chance to get to know some wonderful people, learn about an amazing culture and quite frankly, I was sorry when it was my time to leave.(though it is always good to go home) We were succesful at our mission and even more so in making at least some lives better, mine included for the year plus experience. I enjoyed it enough to bring my family down for vacation there and look forward to another opportunity to visit Ecuador. I wish all of the best for the many wonderful people of Manta.

The issue is not if people go to America or no, it's the issue of taking care of yourselves first before you disturb others . It was a suprising thing for me to see people searching and picking things from the refuse containers in a country whose governments barks around interfering in the internal affairs of other countries . If there're still people living in abdact poverty in the USA, what's the need of it going around promising billions of dollars to other countries, or is it just to buy their conscience and control them?. What's good for the Americans, live fine or control the world living poorly?. I can't understand America's policies .

So much has been said about the good and the bad of America. I am an Italian/American and I love America. I think it is one of the greatest nations in the world. Only people who travel and see other cultures could appreciate America.

America has to take care of their own people. That is a very important point, but we are sorrounded by countries who hates us because we are still powerful that is also an important point.

We can not be naive and selfcenter, We have to be smart with foreign policies and watch our backs. That is the reason why we need military bases in strategy places in the world.

The point of this conversations was American militaries leaving the port of Manta. Now they are in Colombia. I think the president of Colombia is a very smart man and wants to fight the narco traffic. He needs the americans in Colombia. Correa and Chavez are full of hate toward America and in the future they are going to hurt their people.

Many of you commentators have no clue about America and what it stands for. Many of you are blind to the mass media's constant barrage of propaganda. America has been usurped by the bankers and corporations way back in 1913. Since then you are living under fascist rule. The corporations control both parties that you elect so they always win and control legislative power. The people have been deceived and lied to about everything including history and health and well being. Everything you are fed is deliberate to maximize corporate profits. Wars are for profit, pure and simple. Oil corporations and military industrial complex use the U.S. military to do the dirty work. They lie to you about going to war to spread freedom. Instead you are killing innocent civilians such that the likes of Exxon/Mobil can secure oil contracts. That is EVIL as evil can get. USA is a giant propaganda machine. More people want to leave who know the truth than people wanting to enter. Those who enter the U.S. will be in for a shock because they will become economic slaves for life and regret coming in the first place.

America is a dysfunctional society. You are all in debt living a false dream. You slave your life away to buy junk you don't need that depreciates like a rock just to keep up with the Joneses. You eat like pigs thinking that gluttony equals wealth when in reality your are killing yourselves. What is your divorce rate? How many kids born out of wedlock? How many people are dependent upon meds? How many people die of cancer? How many people taking anti-depressants? How many homeless people? How many people on food stamps? The list goes on and on. To even suggest that USA is best place on earth means you are living a lie. I can attest that USA is on the BOTTOM of the list of best places to live.

Back on topic... USA is considered the evil empire by many because they ARE. They destabilize other countries such that they can come in and take over their natural resources. They do it over and over again. Kicking USA out is a great step in the right direction.

Truth: Hard to live up to your name when you have no REAL facts to support your position and can attest only to an your sad emotional state of mind. You sound like an disillusioned individual who failed miserably and instead of taking responsibility for your own actions seeks to blame it on someone or something. You asked a lot of questions but compare the numbers with another country (Uruguay perhaps) then take a position. Is MY country perfect? No, far from it, but I"m proud and grateful to be an American. I wish for you the same pride in your own country instead of the spite for soomething that you will never understand.
