Stammerer, Bobbysgirl-
thank you, I have fully recovered and feel like I did before taking Seroquel. I have considered almost everything and have come up empty. The big problem is that who is going to trust someone with no medical training against a doctor and the entire pharmacutical industry? This is one of the ways they are still able to sell snake oil like Zyprexa and Seroquel, all the "experts" are in the APA or pharmacutical industry and they are able to discredit any criticism by waving their Phd's.

Hello I was just on a low dosage of zyprexa for 4 or so months and it totally messed up my coordination when i play sports, even after i've been off of it for a month. A psychiatrist wouldn't belive me. please tell me more of what you know or how long this loss of coordination could last because it's really not allowing me to excercise anymore. thank you

If you aren't diabetic yet, you likely will have more success than I have. Insulin is the "fat" hormone and the "hunger" hormone, so it is very hard to lose weight while injecting myself with it 5 times a day.
Also, the neuropathy is SO bad that it is very painful to try to walk for exercise. I really am going to rededicate myself to trying it again, though!
I have found that if I limit my carbohydrate intake to just one meal a day (Supper with my family is the one I choose when I am sincerely working the "plan") that I am not nearly as hungry thru the day and my blood sugar is in better control. I read about this 15-20 yrs ago in Carbohydrate Addict's diet. Adkins, etc., didn't work long for me, as it was so hard to stay with and not necessarily the healthiest of all options.
I eat a piece of fruit or have a nice slice of bread or other starch with my normal meal for supper. Of course, sometimes I'm so depressed by all of this that I just fail to plan ahead and have the right (lo carb) foods at the ready.:(.
Good luck. Please post more so I can be inspired by your progress!!

Zyprexa screwed up my coordination even after i've been off of it for over a month. It makes it nearly impossible to excercise anymore. Anybody have any idea how long this effect could last, because i feel weaker too.

I have taken zyprexa for 4 years and have had a weight gain every year since. I am lethargic, weak some of the time and always hungry. Also my hair is thinning out, and I have back Pain.
I think it's the zyprexa from what I have read.
How to get off of it. I take 5mg twice daily.
Any help appreciated.

I have a 9 month gut size. If any one has a idea of what to do about my appeitite or anything on zyprexa. Usually were the best people of knowing our med's.
You should do some serious research in using 1 tablespoon of coconut oil (organic, extra virgin oil)nothing other than this and OMEGA 3, calcium and magnesium. Eat ONLY 3 meals a day, not to much, but don't starve yourself either...Drink..Drink...lots of water and exercise at least 30 minutes every day. I'm not on medications....my daughter is (only 20 yrs. old) and she's also had the same problem...gained 30 pounds in 4 months. It worries me. Your diet should be pure and simple, no junk food or fats or McDonalds. Simply change your life to eating properly. It's not rocket science. Try it...and do as I say...research coconut oil

Eiji- My coordination continues to be bad six-years after taking zyprexa i walk around like a drunk or something, I just wanted something for depression and was put on zyprexa at the end of 01, I ask the doctor for decrease in dose because of weight gain at first, I was only on i think 7.5mg he then said I think you are on the lowest dose, when I knew this was not correct because I work in a doctors office and I knew that there was a lower dose,so he cut my dose to 2mg or 2.5mg I can't remember it seems so long ago, my memory is shot from this stuff, anyway I hope your coordination comes back better for you than mine did. Good Luck

I hate Zyprexa. I have been on & off it for 10 years. Everytime I try to see a pych. to get off it we try and then it fails, so I end up getting "put on" something else like Seroquel or Lithium. I said no way!! Seroquel made me feel like I was freakin' sedated. I'm sorry but I'm not a pothead, I don't NEED a high? Why the heck would I take these drugs?? Anyway I eat like a horse on Zyprexa, glad I'm not the ONLY one. It's good to hear it's not just me!!! I eat even when I don't want food, my stomach just growls. So now, since highschool, I am a freakin' BLIMP. It is so embarrassing, because I can't help it!! People prob think I don't take care of myself!!! When in fact, it's just the opposite!!! Doctors should not be allowed to prescribe drugs that are "suppossed" to make you better when in reality they turn you into a WHALE and prob laugh about it behind closed doors!!!

How Zyprexa makes you Fat

Study out on Eli Lilly Zyprexa causing diabetes

Anti-Psychotic Drugs (Zyprexa) Change Metabolism

“Based on these findings we concluded that male rats treated with olanzapine experienced an early disruption of energy metabolism.

In the study 18 male rats were randomly assigned to one of three groups:(1) those receiving the conventional antipsychotic drug haloperidol (HA); (2) those receiving the atypical antipsychotic drug olanzapine (OL); or (3) the control (CO) group which did not receive either drug.

The medicines were given in food for a period of six weeks. Female rats were excluded to eliminate bias in the study since antipsychotic-induced weight gain in female rodents is likely related to an interaction of the drugs with estrogens.

Testing after four weeks found that the concentration of blood sugar (as glucose) was higher in OL rats (0.87 g/l) than in CO rats (0.75 g/l) and the levels increased more rapidly after a glucose meal. Testing six weeks later found fasting blood sugar levels continued to rise in OL rats (1.46 g/l vs. 1.25 g/l in CO rats) while the level of lipids (fats) in the blood was similar for both groups.
Although there was no difference in body weight gain or food intake, the proportion of fat stored in the abdominal cavity was higher in OL rats (1.63%) vs. CO rats (1.44%).

The HA rats did not vary in any way with the control group at any time. They exhibited a lower blood sugar level after a glucose meal and a lower proportion of intraabdominal fat store (1.44%) than OL rats.

Senior study author Dominique Hermier said,“Based on these findings we concluded that male rats treated with olanzapine (Zyprexa) experienced an early disruption of energy metabolism. This was a result of the fat tissue we observed and the impairment in blood sugar regulation which are both associated with metabolic syndrome and subsequent risk of diabetes.”

Zyprexa,as well as the other atypical antipsychotics, are being prescribed for children, even though this is an unapproved, off-label use. Eli Lilly has been charged in allegedly pushing the drug for children in more than one state.

A report by Dr. Cooper at Vanderbilt University states that 2.5 million children are now taking atypical antipsychotics. Over half are being given them for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Perhaps it is statistics like these that caused the FDA to finally require warnings on the labels of the ADHD drugs.

The use of atypical antipsychotics for children should be banned.

Dear Danny,

Did you see the documentary about children and atypical antipsychotics last night on public television? It was very interesting. Quite a bit was said about children with bipolar disorder. I agree with you. Atypical antipsychotics should never be given to children. What works for adults does not work for children. On top of that, killer ones such as horrible zyprexa has killed thousands of people including my late beloved husband. If this horrid drug can kill a thity-five year old strong healthy man, think of what it would do to children.
