Taper off Effexor XR to minimize withdrawal symptoms

Full story: Los Angeles Times

I have been on Effexor XR for the last seven years for depression. I decided to wean myself off it, since it wasn't a good mix with another drug.

My doctor has repeatedly warned me about abruptly going off effexor. After reading your experience, I know why. Sorry you had to go through that. I'm just about to wean off of it myself because of the price. I pay out of pocket and even though it's just gone generic, the XR hasn't gone generic and it costs a fortune.

You folks in the US get robbed for medication :( but at least your Doctor gave you the right advice .. consider a gradual taper and adjuct with something with a longer half life. I did the effexor cold turkey .. 10 days of hell followed by 3 months of misery!

Must Rank #1 for withdrawal closely followed by Paroxetine!

Good Luck
