Be careful with Xenical...

I took Xenical for 2 months...1 to 2 pills a day. I lost about 3 lbs and that was fine. No big deal. I would get intestinal discomfort and bloating and sometimes pain in my abdomen badly until I had diarrhea.

But now the anger has set in. Why? Because 2 months after STOPPING Xenical...anytime I eat food with fat in it...the abdominal bloating and fluid retention kick in hardcore...and I have diarrhea...it's very difficult and embarrassing. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone except the very obese combined with the very desperate.

i took xenical and it worked wonders for me.yes i had the fatty stools,but that was it,that was one small side effect,and when your 100 pounds overweight,thats nothing,,,the only problem i ahd with xenical was i couldnt keep taking it because of the cost,way too muck 226 for 90 pills,,,,there are so many other otc drugs that can cause way more problems,if not take right,so whats the big deal with fat people getting xenical otc and at a good price,,,and yes fat people do get desperste,,,to loose weight. boesiety is a disease.and when yor fighting a disease..we are entitled to try what works,and this does work,,,,,theres no difference between taking xenical,then all the other fat burning,diet pills otc,,,,,,

just so you know Costco sells xenical for $160.00 for 90 pills. Also most every pharmacy will price match.

By the way, whenever a drug goes OTC, they package it at a much lower dosage than the doctor uses in a prescription version. The OTC Xenical (orlistat) will be sold at only 60 mg per capsule, versus 120 mg for the prescription version. So to get the same effect, you will have to purchase twice as much, hardly a savings, in my opinion.

"Be careful with Xenical"...tell me about it! You can never trust a fart when taking this medicine. I've shit myself three times thinking I only had to fart. Well, it wasn't poop exactly, it was all oil that went right through my clothing. Luckily all three times it was on my leather chair at home so I could clean it easily. Thank God it didn't happen at work! So I can't even fart anymore without plunking myself on the toilet "just in case".

It's kind of embarrassing at the office too, because now when I go to the bathroom I fart quite loudly about a dozen times before pooping so I always try to go when nobody else is in the washroom so they can't recognize me by seeing my shoes from the next stall. Plus I often bust out laughing from farting so much, so it helps not to have anyone else in there thinking you're nuts or something.

I'm now taking only 1 Xenical per day with my evening meal and I haven't soiled myself again, but I still fart quite voluminously. I've lost about 20 pounds in less than 3 months - so I guess it might be worth it...

yeah i agree ,xanical makes me fart as well.xanical realy works for me ,but there is a trick to it i believe caz i took xanical about a year ago and i lost 15 pounds in one week , yeah ,one week . i stop taken xanical caz i had got to the size i wantedto about a month later i put those ugly phat pounds back on, plus five more in water weight. so yeah i believe you will be stuck on these pills to stay at your goal weight.

I have friends taking Xenical and all of them are quite satisfy with it. But some of them couldn't stand with its side effects.

Well it's bloody happened again! As an experiment I tried taking 2 Xenical per day instead of my usual 1 per day. This is my second day of taking 2 per day, I farted and had an accident again. Now that I have experience I only got the oil in my underwear instead of on my pants as well.

So it appears that the optimal dose for me is 1 tablet of Xenical (or 120 mg) per day, otherwise I risk shitting myself when I fart. Charming, isn't it?

By taking 1 Xenical per day I am only losing about 2-3 pounds every 2 weeks, but like the fabled tortoise and the hare, I guess slow and steady wins the race. As long as I can keep up the pace of 2-3 pounds every 2 weeks I'll be happy.

So all you out there take this as a warning. If you cannot tolerate the recommended dose of 2-3 Xenical per day (i.e. 1 with each meal), try 1 per day. You will lose weight more slowly, but you probably won't shit yourself, and even if the weight comes off slowly - the important thing is that it comes off, and that you stay clean while doing so...

How long did it take you to notice a weight change? I have been taking them 2 to 3 times a day for 3 weeks and I have not lost a lb. I have also been working out 4-5 times a week. I am wondering if it just isn't working for me. I have the oily discharge and have had one accident so I can tell it is doing what its suppose to do...ha ha. Any advice?

This post made me laugh out loud! I was laughing so hard I thought I'd fall off my chair! There is just no one I can talk to about the side effects of the medication but it is so true! I have actually had to increase my fat intake to lose weight. I had been taking the meds but I wasn't having the side effects and also no weight loss, I started eating more fat and lo and behold, I am losing weight again. Too bad that I can't lose the weight without the side effects.:-( I just want to get it over with! lol Thanks for the laugh!

I did take this at one time and did experience the orangey greasy stuff, but at least it was leaving my body. Xenical does not work if you don't eat anything with fat in it so just remember that. My doctor had me on Phentermine for almost 8 months, but now it doesn't work for me anymore. I need to get my script filled again but my insurance said it was too early to get it filled so now I sit with taking nothing. Please let me know if there is an honest site that I can order Xenical from since it has not been marketed into any of the stores yet since becoming OTC.

Well I also like to laugh at the human condition...it wasn't very amusing to me when it happened, but since it did, I might as well see the humour in it. My doc told me this could happen, so it's not like I wasn't forewarned.

I've struggled with obesity since puberty. I grew sick of feeling bad about myself for being overweight and staying fat no matter how much I cut the "bad stuff" out of my diet. So I started poking fun at it instead (anyway, from what I've heard, us fat folk are rumoured to be a jolly lot).

I've more or less adapted to taking 2 tabs a day now. I haven't narrowed it down to an exact science - but I've found that the farts I let off upon awaking are "empty threats" (i.e. no orange oil unexpectedly coming out), it's the ones a couple hours after waking up until bedtime that can be disastrous. I guess I don't fart in my sleep because I've never woke up to any unpleasant surprises yet, but I do wake up each morning fearful that the unthinkable might have happened during the night.

As many of you will know, most if not all of us guys take great pleasure in certain of the noises we can create with our bodies. This fascination starts with boyhood and never leaves us, just as we will always find the Three Stooges hilarious no matter how old we become. Depriving a man of the ability to expel and appreciate a well-rendered fart (either alone or in the company of other, usually also male, fart enthusiasts) can be traumatic for us to varying degrees.

Now, while I've adapted to taking 2 tabs instead of 1, the noises I make before pooping have grown more severe. At home I've got the insulating effect of the bath mats, shower curtain, bath towels etc. But at work it's just the metal walls of the cubicles and marble floors. These don't absorb sounds, they only amplify them and make them even LOUDER! At my current dosage of 2 tabs, sometimes I can make it sound like the 4th of July in there...

On one occasion, some poor soul entered the men's room just as I was sounding off another volley and I heard the door close again as he retreated back to safety. I'm not sure if he backed out to avoid the aroma that would inevitably follow the sound (much as thunder follows lightning), or if the ghastly noises he heard alarmed him into running for cover. To date I've considered myself lucky that no one has reported the disconcerting sounds coming from the men's room to building security. How embarrassing would it be to have a SWAT team busting down the door to my cubicle and hauling me out, still farting, with my pants down around my ankles, because they thought I was detonating bombs in there?

Anyway, on a more serious note...tiggermom, how much weight have you lost with Xenical, and how long have you taken it? I've lost about 25 lbs. since starting Xenical this Summer.

All of your comments have been so helpful. I have been on Xenical for 5days now after pleading with my Doctor to give them to me. After a couple of days I have had to increase my fat intake in order for them to start working. I just hope it works as I have tried the gym etc and nothing appears to be happening, this may be down to an under-active thyroid (yet to be confirmed). My only concern is that once I stop taking them will all of the weight go back on?! I really do need to shift this 2 stone!

I have been taking xenical for almost a month now and have lost aprox 3lbs. I have 33lbs to lose. Will this med continue to work ? will it pick up momentum?
Very curious as it is quite expensive and my insurance co. does not cover it. I take 3 tabs per day as prescribed by my doctor. Should I continue with this med?
