Mother charged with giving rat poison to her 2 children

Johanna Vera and her boyfriend had broken up two weeks before she tried to kill herself and her two children with a concoction of rat poison and juice, authorities said Tuesday.

Kudos to DCFS and our lovely judicial system for allowing a parent, who tried to kill her children, any type of visitation at all. The message you've sent to these children is that their lives aren't so very important, in fact, are so unimportant that you'll still allow the person who tried to snuff out their lives to have contact with them. The message you've sent to parents is: it's okay to harm your children, and yes, even try and kill them. We promise you can still see them. Each of you should be hanging your head in shame and fired from you jobs.

Take her babies and never give them back. No mother would have such a lack of regard for the lives of children she carried and brought to independent existence only to try to killer her babies to get the attention of some man who had broken off a relationship with her.

The concern should be that if the children are returned that she might some place down the road in the future experience another spell of needing attention and then try to blow their brains out as they sleep. Take these children and place her on permanent birth control.

This woman belongs in jail and should not have any contact with those children until they are old enough to decide for themselves whether or not they want to see her. The second she decided to feed them poison was the second she lost her right to ever see them again. It is our responsibility as a society to set the standards and protect our children.

Put the kids up for adoption while they are still young enough to forget. There are many loving and desperate-to-adopt couples. These kids still have a chance.

I am sick to death of these stories about parents trying to kill their own children!!! It makes me want to cry & scream at the same time. I am one of the millions of people out there who cannot concieve a child on my own without help from doctors and even then there is no guarantee of getting pregnant. There are plenty of people out there who would be willing to give these children a loving and caring upbringing. WHY MUST THESE PEOPLE BE ALLOWED TO EVER HAVE CHILDREN. My heart breaks for these poor kids and especially if they pull through without any complications. How are they going to cope with the fact that their own mother tried to kill them!!! I will pray for their lives.

Vicky, there are thousands of children in foster care and group homes who are waiting to be adopted. If you care so much take that route instead. I volunteer for abused and neglected children and they need loving homes.

an order of protection was filed dec 11...amd she was granted supervised visits , why did she have the children without the required supervision?? Did the man who was granted custody drop them off with her cause he needed a babysitter?????? Look into him too.,
