Is Topiramate really worth it?

Hello all,

I have only been on Topiramate for about 2 weeks but after reading all of the awful things that people have been writing in this forum about it I'm starting to wonder if it's really worth it.

I'm also wondering if I will be able to function normally whilst on it. Although i'm only on 50mg at the mo, I will be increasing to 100mg. I am already experiencing pins and needles, a lack of appetite, change in taste and smell, terrible upset stomach and often feeling sick. I am feeling dizzy quite a lot and feeling quite manic. Which ever emotion I feel seems to be amplified 10 fold. For example when I get angry I become VERY angry! And I cried twice today at work which I've never done before and it was even for any real reason!

Not to mention the fact that I keep forgetting really silly things including peoples names.

I haven't even noticed an improvement with my headaches yet so what I really what to know is, is it really worth it? And does this pass?

Emma,
I've been on topomax for nearly 8 years for Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy - up to around 400 mgs a day. I believe that Topomax is worth it ( I take it for pain) not seizures, but the memory issue is SUPER annoying. Thats whY I have suddenly decided to end my usage. However, it was a good 8 year run. I'd reccomend it.

I love my topamax. I am using it at 100 mg for migraine. The pins and needles has gone away. I am also still losing weight. The memory thing and concentration is better, it is only really bad during changes in dosing for me. I have been on it for about 6 months and I have found most side effects are gone.
