Topamax used for BPD and mood swings

I am having exstremely bad vision scares. I've been in bed with what my husband is trying to call a stomach bug. But I know the head spins made me nauseas sp. My thinking and seeing is finally clearing up today on day four. But I can't walk in a straight line. I'm convinced it is Topomax. But my last increase was six weeks ago. I'm on 300mg. Anna

Hi, you are the very 1st person I've heard of gaining weight on topamax besides myself. I have been looking on many different websites for anyone who gained weight. I also gained 30lbs. I would work out really heard everyday, and watch what i eat and still stay bloated. Ive finally decided to get off topamax and after only being able to tolerate no more than 75mgs the doctor would try to get my to add more mg's but everytime i would take 100mg i would get pressure behind my eye. I also had severe burning tingling sensation in the middle of the night a week and half after discontinuing the last 25mg. I will never take topamax again. I wish you much luck and know your not alone, thanks too your post i know now im not going crazy.

Hi Teresa, I feel like your living my life. I am also 5'6 up to 170 lbs for the very 1st time in my entire life. I work out and sweat like crazy and the bloated look just doesnt go away. My friends and family also tell me i look bloated. I just came off of the last 25 mg after being on it for a year and half and get headaches on and off and had a burning sizzling sensation in my brain after being woken up by it. i was only on 75 mg because i too could not tolerate any more than that i would get weird i pressure behing my eyes. I was taking this rx for anxiety and depression and im also on 20mg of Paxil. I wish you luck and so glad i found your post. Next week im going to a nuerologist for a consultation to find out whats going on since I came off the topamax. Ill keep you posted. Good luck and thanks.

I need some advice!
I have A.D.D. and after having my son I finally decided to go on some meds for it. My Dr. prescribed me Adderall which did wonders for me. Unfortunately, one cannot take Adderall when pregnant, so I had to drop it a few months later. After having my daughter I went back on it, but things weren't going as smoothly the 2nd time around. Apparently the hormones from having a girl are causing my body to react differently this time. I began to have drastic mood swings which I was not having before I went back on the Adderall. This is when he prescribed me Topamax.

Now, I've done a lot of research on Topamax and I can't help but wonder if it's almost counter-productive for my circumstances. Side effects for it include feeling fatigued and spacey, but the whole point of taking Adderall is to help me with my brains ability to focus and my body's motivation and fatigue... Not to mention, I'm reading one of the major side affects of Topamax is mood swings... Does this make sense to anyone?!

I started taking topiramate a generic of topamax about three weeks ago for head aches. I was pretty nervous in taking meds on a constant basis in the first place but i have notice that my appetite has dropped like a rock which is pretty good for me because i have been working on losing weigh like forever and i sleep well at night which is a plus for me but my mood has changed. When i become angry i stay angry and that is not like me at all let alone the constant angrier part and i have notice that i get sharp pains in my upper stomach area.....what gives?

I have bipolar ll,anxiety,PTSD and I am on Lamictal and I had no side effects from it what so every... I am taking 400 mg and have been for a while now, I am also on lithium. I also have trouble sleeping they have tried several medications to help me sleep and a friend of mine that has the same conditions, says that he is doing well on the Topamax. So, I guess what I am saying is that the Dr.'s have to let you know some of the side effects that may happen, it all depends on your body chemestry.

Yes I lost weight at first 6 months or so, but then I have gained about 45 lbs. I also have bouts of fluid retention a.k.a "cankles" I have never had that before.

Is it possible for bpd to get better? I have serious lows and high. I also have stability for short periods in between the highs and lows. Is there anything (medication) that works better than
others? I know you will respond with "it all depends on how one reacts" like I wish with all my heart that I would be stable on just lithium. But,
I have tried that with no success. Any advice?

I defenatly gained weight... alot of water weight on topamax. when i came off it i lost the water weight but still over weight. I heard it might be from the paxil.
