Hi. I have been on Armour Thyroid for about 2 years, 90 twice a day.
My pharmacy said they could not order any more 90 as there was a message that the manufacturer was not making it. They started givng me 30's and 60's instead. Now they said they cannot order anymore of those either. Is anyone else having trouble getting refills? Does anyone know what is going on? Any info. would be greatly appreciated as I only have enough left for a few days and I am afraid my doctor will put me on Synthoid. |

I just read the above post after finding out I was unable to get my prescription refilled as they were on "back order". First the pharmacy said they would be in by tomorrow, then they said it could be WEEKS! I need this stuff to LIVE, I can't tolerate other kinds like Levoxyl or Synthroid. Please let me know if you get any new information.

I just came from the pharmacy and got the same news. I was told the 90 mg and 60 mg pills have been discontinued. When asked which dosages are available, they had no response. I was then handed 70 - 30 mg tablets, which appear to be samples as they are on cards of 10 pills each, then told to check with the manufacturer for the availability of the remainder of my prescription. I went to the Armour website and couldn't find any info regarding the discontinuation of their product. I am calling my doctor next and will keep you posted. I would appreciate the same. Thanks!

Hi. The About.com website dealing with thyroid issues has an article about what is going on with Armour thyroid. It is not being discontinued, they are "refining" it and it will be available soon. The 90 that i take will be available in July, the rest by fall.
I have talked to a compounding pharmacist in my area (I live in Vermont, not sure why my post says Concord, NH) and he is going to compound me the exact dose that I have been taking. It will cost a little more, but until I can get my Armour thyroid it seems like a good solution. I live in Rural Vermont, but we have a compounding pharmacist in Burlington. Try to find such a pharmacist in your areas until you can get your thyroid. If you cannot find one, post back here and I will try to help. |

Judged:
1 Acorrding to the info on the "hotline" 15 mgs will be available in July (no specific date); 30 mgs - 7/29/09; 90 mgs - 6/22/09. All other dosages are currently available. Hope this helps. |

Six, thank you, that helps a lot.
(I cannot wait to see where the town and state I live in listed here is now. Every time I post it is a different place). The compounding pharmacy is still a good place to check until the Armour each of us needs is available. |

Am I the only one that suspects economics is behind this shortage??!! None of the excuses Armour give about 'refining' makes any sense. Especially the shortages due to prolonged 'refining' time. A contrived shortage is a common strategy to manipulate supply and demand and the end result... value!
