I am one of those who got diabetes. I have been trying to ween myself off of Seroquel, but, I have to say that this drug is addictive and I am hooked on it to get me to sleep. So, my choices are basically keep taking it and get sicker from diabetes or stop taking it and kill myself after a week or two without sleep and the return of the hallucinations.

Scarlett, Get off of it NOW whilst you still can. They say it is not addictive, but it is. I'm trying to get off after about 7 years, and it is HELL. Read the withdrawl thread, it is a real wake-up call.

Hi, I currently take 200 mg at night for paranoid schizophrenia. You see, seraquel works well for paranoia. I didn't realize people were so against it, but I can understand the symptoms are increased in intensity when the dosage is high. My mother had severe side effects on it, like you guys, and it took awhile to get over them. But, as with all psychiatric medicines, they are meant for specific disorders and it is wrong what they do with generalizing medicine that wasn't meant to treat other illnesses. I don't know why they do that. But, I ran into a lady who was very passionate about how seraquel causes diabetes and there were lawsuits against it. As with anything, people need to listen to their doctor when he says not to eat processed sugar deliberately (at first I was mad, but soon realized I have no choice but to quit eating sugar or I would develop diabetes) when you are on it. Even though I've gained 10 pounds in 6 months- I haven't ballooned like my mom has on Depakote (used for bipolar). I've heard seraquel is used for bipolar also. Hope my insight helps.

Sara Mills, It's not dr.'s saying don't eat processed sugar-first off the dr.'s & AZ hid all those terrible side effects. You have a hand up here i guess b/c you say your dr. warned you about the risk of diabetes most of us got none. Secondly when you get diabetes your pancreas will not produce insulin so you can't eat anything that converts into sugar. As I stated in the other thread you posted in here-check yourself in 52 weeks & your blood will probably be on AZ's hands too.
ps
read your KJV luke was a medicine man-I follow that lead.

The Judge in Florida dismissed the first two cases that were scheduled to begin on Monday. I don't know what this means for future cases, but, we will have to wait and see. AZ successfully argued that there was not enough evidence in the first cases to show that Seroquel causes diabetes.

I am beginning to think that AZ has the judge in their pocket. I hope this is not true.

Let's hope the next cases are stronger. I don't see how AZ can get out of all of them.

More on the case dismissal. The plaintiff was a 61 year old woman. The AZ attorney argued that her weight and family history of diabetes were the main contributors to her diabetes. HELLO...She was overweight because of the Seroquel and why would a doctor give her Seroquel if she had a family history of Diabetes. If AZ had clearly warned the doctor, she would never have been on the Seroquel in the first place.

If you start out being a little overweight with no diabetes before Seroquel and then you end up being a lot overweight and with diabetes after Seroquel, does that not show a clear cause and effect.

I was a mostly healthy (except for bipolar) person in my mid 30's before I took this drug.
Now, I am an insulin dependent diabetic whose kidneys are starting fail 42 year old.

I just bought this laptop for me and my wife. She has diabetes 2, which give her neuro problems. We have been engaged in the lawsuit on seroquel for 2 and half years now. It is in arbitration, with the third legal firm on our behalf. I about lost my wife last July because of the side effects of the drug. She can not take it any longer, it effects her kidneys. Her liver is messed up. She is on insulin, takes morriphine for the neuro pain. She has been warned the media may want to talk to her. This whole process really upsets me. The medical people in the town we are in know about her case, people talk. Because she is on state aid I feel she is not getting the proper care with her body problems now. Before she was on Serequel she was given a case of Zypraxa, which we could not proof. They were samples given by a doctor from Lilly. I am like a house CNA now, she is in a wheelchair also. These drug companies are murdering people, along with the FDA and their approvals to market the drugs. It is very upsetting.

I would like to get in on this as well. I was given this medicine and not only did I gain weight I acquired high blood pressure as well as problems with my diabetes that had been fine for years. I was given this by a prison doctor who I believe wasn't aware of everything at the time of what was going on with this drug. Is it to late to participate in this?

Does anyone know what is going on with the lawsuit against Seraquel with Bailey Perrin and Bailey? I am part of it, however no one seems to know when it is going to be over or how the pay outs are going to be. I started taking the drug and was later diagnosed with diabeties. There is no history of it in my family and the doctors told me it was a side effect of the drug. Anyone else out there have the same problem?
Ye ssir I have the same problem and I am wiht bailey perrin and bailey also. what I hear is that the astra zeneca plans to take everyone to court starting in January. I have enve started passing out at every eight months or so andmay not get tokeep my dr lic as I have to get three doctors to approve that

please look at the other seroquel lawsuit thread for more information. The next trial will be in October 2009, in Missouri. The latest news with AZ is that they have run out of trial money. The have already spent 600 million on court costs and any future proceedings will come out of profits.

I too am suffering from the effects of Seroquel.
I've developed diabetes and I have several side effects. I developed gastriporesis and I have to have medicine that I have to take so my food will digest properly. Every time I get ill with something else I always get my doctor to send info to the law firm.I also developed NAFLD of the liver. So if you develope any other symptoms due to diabetes get your doctor to send the info to the law firm.
Robin:Did you have a liver biopsy done to check for hepatitis and cirrhosis...the reason I asking is because these conditions don't show on regular blood testing. The other reason is ammonia level due to liver damage. Also, do you have hyperglycemia?
