oops! Forgot to add..... I currently take 200 mg. regular Seroquel and 300mg Seroquel XR. I like the xr cuz it helps with daytime anxiety. I take both at night. Up until last year, 400 regular at night.

I've taken seroquel for five days now and will not be taking it any longer. I've never had any "weight issues" and my appetite has changed drastically in the last few days. I cant keep myself from eating everything in sight! Even though it doesn't taste too good, I dont feel like stopping until its all gone. Im going to have way worse problems than "mild depression" if I continue on this medication. It is not right for me, but if it works for you, then Im glad you found the something that helps.

I’m not a physician and not qualified to give medical advice so take these suggestions for just that – suggestions.
I’ve taken varying levels of Seroquel – 100-400 mgs. at bedtime – for four years and have packed on 50 lbs. My doctor told me it’s idiopathic weight gain and that it’s a common side effect. It’s very depressing and complicates bipolar disorder, especially bipolar depression. I need to control mania so my doctor has switched me to 60 mgs. of Geodon at bedtime. He believes it has less impact on one’s weight. We’ll see. I also suffered from insomnia and would miss two to three nights of sleep regularly (my record is five terrible nights). Two things helped me that you may want to mention to your doctor. First, I began taking the over-the-counter supplement Melatonin at bedtime (3 mgs.). It made me groggy the next day at first, but that subsided. It's wonderful for sleep, but has side effects, especially for women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, so talk to your doctor. A word to the wise: doctors don’t take Melatonin seriously so expect some push-back. Then, I bought a light meant to help people with Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). It has helped to regulate my circadian rhythms and normalize my sleep patterns. Again, check with your doctor – it can elevate anxiety – and don’t leave it on too long. I’ve done that inadvertently and my hands begin to shake. I bought the “Happy Light” by Verilux; it was about $200 from Target.com , but was well worth the investment. Good luck. |
