I have been on seroquel for going on two months now. It has change my life!!!! I am at peace now.(Bi-polor). For 10 yrs I tried to figure out with different doctors the right med. Fearing weight gain and other side affects. I make sure I eat right (fruit, veg, and and protein) Not junk. I have lost 10 lbs. If your hungry eat and apple or salad. Stay away from sugars (blood sugar concerns)and chips and cheeses, and processed stuff. If its white it is not right & you must eat what is alive to stay alive. Exercise and don't sit around feeling sorry for yourselfs!!!

Are you taking anything else with it?

Seroquel has always made me lethargic after taking it, but usually it's at night. I only take like 25mgs and usually less for anxiety. I've been on it for about 3 years nightly.

IMO, all these antidepressants/anti-whatever cause weight gain. Except for the uppers. There's just no avoiding it cause they help you to relax. And it's easier to munch when you're relaxed. My 2 cents on it. I'm about 225 6'1 and fit.

I have been on seroquel for almost a year now and I've gained 50 lbs which for me makes me feel uncomfortable. You are at a healthy weight. Don't be looking to gain weight, though it might happen. that's a side effect. good luck

I took seroquel for almost 2 years. I was on a low dose of only 75 milligrams. In the beginning I was so thankful for being able to sleep but began noticing odd behaviors, such as late night eating, (which I never did), and a disturbing amount of hair loss. After almost two years I realized I had gained almost 15 lbs. of fat and my hair was becoming very thin. I decided to get off this drug against the advice of my doctor. I did it very slowly and within 2 months I have lost some weight and my hair has started growing in much thicker. I would advice anyone who is considering or has begun taking Seroquel to realize this is a very, very serious medication and there is often serious side effects. Doctors just want to prescribe a quick fix for many of us unsuspecting patients, but do not go home and live with the side effects they often produce. Exercise, meditation, and a good therapist can often help a lot more than a drug.

I just replied to getting off seroquel. I agree with you Nancy. The side affect were hard. But I have to say it kept me in tact for the time I needed. PLEASE for anyone deciding to wean off it. Take your time..its very difficult to wean off and brutal on your body. It takes a month for your body to recover at a minimum. I have severe hives, colds, allergies, sweats, you name it and I have it. I also weaned myself off as slowly as you possibly could..

I started taking seroquel for sleep about a year ago. I am 5'3 and was 93 lbs. Today I am 122 lbs. I am fed up, yes it helps me sleep and eat all night. I rather not sleep and be thin. I am throwing this crap away. Hopefully I can drop 20 lbs in a month. Once it's out of my system. Good Luck to everyone who uses this drug and is depressed from the weight gain.

I've been on seroquel for 4 years now and have gained 60 pounds. Every time I try to get off of it I can't sleep. I'm extremely depressed over the weight gain, but it works great for the bipolar disorder. I'm going to make an appointment with my Doc and see about trying something different. I can't afford to get any fatter, its affecting my athsma. I used to look good before the seroquel, but now I'm starting to look like a hippo!!!

I took seroquel (700mg a day) for 8 years. It did help me to sleep but when I started I weighed 135lb and peaked at 276lb! I am a very strict vegitarian and watch what I eat. I stopped taking it 3 months ago and have lost 40lb. I would rather not sleep and deal with stress than to ever take that terrible drug again.

I have been using this drug for sleep(100mg) for over a year and have gained about 25 pounds I am hungry all of the time and especially in the middle of the night. It does really help me for sleep and have battled with insomnia for many years now. I was off it when I was in Hospital for a couple of months and did loose some weight but not in the area's I would have liked to have seen. I have a pot belly fat looking face and feel very uncomfortable with my body appearance. I am fighting with the I want to loose wieigh but want to sleep syndrome. I will try and see if I can sleep with just the ambien that I also take and see if it is enough. thanks for the helpful and interesting comments from people here.

I am 5'3 and I would do just about anything to weigh 122 lbs! And even if one has a small frame that is a perfectly normal weight.

YOU are NOT FAT!

I gained my weight from pregnancy, lost it then got the depo provera shot (an evil birth control shot w/scary side effects), that affected my hormones and I gained back 40lbs.

Ive been struggling w/weight loss ever sense.
I already have major food cravings ALL the time.

Anyway my doctor just this week prescribed Seroquel for sleep and bipolar.
I took ONE 50 mg and I already felt the cravings get even worse!

I'm glad I found out about this side effect along w/many others now than months down the line.
WTH was my doctor thinking? He didnt even mention any of this and I didnt even think to ask ugh.

It sounds like people are gaining weight regardless of HOW they eat or exercise.
So all these people saying just eat right and exercise really need to stop pointing fingers.

Right now I keep telling myself you will NOT eat, YOU will NOT eat, and it's after midnight, ugh this SUCKS!!

I'm trying so hard, hoping this crap gets out my system asap. Ill be calling the dr's office tomorrow, wont be taking this crap anymore.

I starting taking topamax and it has really helped the complusive eating ALOT, I dont know if this is something that is long term but for now it has helped, that is until I took this Seroquel crap!!

I hope we all find something that helps us lead productive lives
-------

PS for others It's "I want to LOSE weight not I want to LOOSE weight"
Use "loose" if you do lose weight and your jeans are now loose!!=).

Sorry that always drives me nuts hehe.

Dude, if you batty you have to take that much Seroquel, weight gain is the least of your problems. I take 100 to sleep and I'm ripped, 5% bodyfat and train like an animal. Seroquel doesn't make people fat, sugar, excess glucose and no self discipline does.

My doctor gave me seroquel XL today. I have read just about everthing i needed to know. I have a good figure for my age and cloths fit me well. After reading about all the weight gain i will not start it. The Doctor said he would try me for 2 weeks and see what happens. I told him before how i liked the way i look now. Well this is telling me enough. I will call back and leave message see what happpens from there. I am more depressed i said and he thought increasing dosage of wellbuterin would cause more aniexty.

I've been on Seroquel since 2005 and at first I gained (blimp). Since then, I've discovered that if you eat mostly fruits, veggies, and fresh or homemade foods, you'll keep the weight off. It's the prepared dinners and eating out that will put it on. Carbs and sugars seem to be really deadly on this med. I've been a vegetarian for over 30 years by choice so it was hard to find something to replace my "comfort foods." Oddly enough, when I crave chips, a handful of Cheerios usually works. Baked chips or a baked potato work also. Try the 94% fat free popcorn too. The best trick is to count to ten before you eat something. Looking at it for ten seconds, realizing what it's going to do to you, is quite helpful. nine times out of ten, i end up choosing something else. Try to fall asleep soon after taking your seroquel. It should make you sleep al night, and through that hunger phase (and it's a bad one. You feel like you're literally stqrving). If you're not slppeing through that, you may need a sleep med, higher dose, or some calming meditation or other relaxing thing before bed. Good luck!
