I've been on seroquel for years and I've gained 60 pounds.I'm 43 and never in my life weighed this much not even when i was carring my 3 children.I tell myself Iwant eat as much so i can lose it,but about 30 min.after taking my 400mg of seroquel I'm starving. Some mornings I wake up ith crap on my shirt and I don't remember getting up and eating. Now thats sad!!!!My family is scared I'll cook or heat something and burn down the house. When your on seroquel it not only effects us it effects our family.I'm going to try to taper off seroquel,I've tryed cold turkey but the side effects are to much for me to handle.I feel resentful of my doctor for putting me on this evil crap.

This is very similar to what happend to me the last year I took Seroquel, I would wake up in the middle of the night starving and barely had enough energy to get out of bed. Then I would get a box of cereal and take it back to bed, and eat most or all of the box, spilling cereal in bed. The only way to stop this kind of thing is to stop taking Seroquel. Since quitting Seroquel 7 months ago, I have lost over 20 pounds while gaining strength and endurance. Stay away from Seroquel and any other similar crap the doctors claim is so great, it's just poison that makes you feel like crap.

I've been on it a little over the year and recently increased the dosage because the intensity of "false beliefs" became disruptive to my daily life. it also benefits me because I used to have insomnia.

To keep the weight off, I just keep active. There's no need for the ridiculous diabetes lawsuit. The side effects are very blunt and clear. Your doctor should obviously know you as a patient very well. while trying to keep yourself mentally well, try keeping yourself as a whole in good shape as well.

if theres problems, thats what your psychiatrist and therapy for. oh yeah, the medicine is less powerful without the actually cognitive/psycho therapy.

It's all determined by personal needs as well.

45 pounds after being on it at full dosage for me (200 mg's) for one month. It happened all within a week too, if you can believe that. Just boom, it all went to my belly too. I'm as heavy as I was when I was pregnant, and I looked huge! Just got off of it this last week and I'm on a thyroid med so hopefully it will come off pretty easily.

I learned something from a coworker yesterday that made a lot of sense. I wondered why since I started the Seroquel 300 mg that I felt hungry all the time but yet when I went to eat I could not eat. I am a pretty healthy eater. I also could not figure out what was causing the severe heartburn, reflux or whatever! Major pain! She said her dr said the Seroquel works in one way on the acids in your stomach...to a "normal healthy" person, they recognize this as the heart burn etc. but the more mental issues you have, the acidy feeling ends up translating into hunger pains and you start eating more. Well, I havent hit the point of eating more...I have the heartburn, amongst a lot of other side effects and I feel even more depressed when I look in the mirror and see 20+ lbs of fat gained in two wks.
There's no way I will stay on this med. If the dr wont work with me then its time for a new dr.

I've been on Seroquel (400-600 daily) since 2005 and gained about 50 lbs. I eat healthy but do not get any weight loss. It all just exploded on me after being on the med for 1 yr. I tried to get off it twice but got headaches so bad I thought I got shot in the face and I really felt borderline like I was gonna have a serious episode. I hate this drug, it makes me so awkward in social situations and has cost me many relationships in the past 2 years. I'm like a fucking zombie half the time...

yea, tee, this med will make you gain weight..unfortunately it will most likely be in your stomach region. potbelly. hah

I've been on 3 months and for the first time in my life I've been gaining a lot of weight. I've gone from 140pounds to 175pounds. My stomach is a bit potbellied now after having a completely flat stomach before.

I've been on Seroquel for about 2 years now (500mg daily, for BiPolar Disorder). This medication (in addition to leading a more positive lifestyle) has done wonders for me. A few things I've found:

I used to have consistent cravings of marijauna - it used to be a 'medicine' that I used to relax, and handle stress. Seroquel gives me the same relaxed state legally, but with similar side effects - especially the "munchies", which everyone here is describing.

I've gained about 40 pounds, which adds a self-image problem I didn't used to have. I can handle that.

I've learned that smaller doses once-daily only made me a zombie, whereas if I take regular doses of 100mg throughout the day, and 200mg at night, I can function normally, but in a much more controllable state (I watch my emotions from getting too "up", which in my experience is what caused my constantly depressed states later)

Stomach acid is a MAJOR problem. Prilosec helps this, but I hate taking medications anyway. so I use only when absolutely necessary. The feeling that my heart is pounding heavily at times is another issue, although during one such instance my doctor listened to my heart and noted no difference from what's normal.

Throughout life, I've been on around 5 or 6 different anti-depressants (all SSRI's), which didn't really seem to help long-term. When put on Seroquel, I was also put on Wellbutrin XL - which I promptly stopped taking (not wanting to be on any more antidepressants). I've had serious issues w/ depression my whole life, and every doctor would just dispense ant-deps. like candy.

Finally a new doctor pinpointed my main problem: After a really high up, I feel worthless for days or months following. Realizing this, using Seroquel to help assist in rationally "shepherding" my emotional state, and changing how I handled stress (removing self-destructive thoughts as much as possible) has really made a positive change in my life - and I'm a much, much happier person.

This medication is probably over prescribed (and "BiPolar Disorder" is so en-vogue right now that the diagnosis is probably mostly B.S). My doctor once told me, "Anyone can take Ritalin and concentrate - it's what the drug helps you do. But because the drug performs what's intended doesn't mean you have ADHD.". I'm looking at Seroquel as a step in reworking how I live, not a silver bullet I'll keep with me at all times.

And yes, I plan on dumping it eventually and hopefully dropping some of this weight.

I have been on Seroquel for several years (400 mg)When I started taking the drug I weighed 122lbs and had a flat stomache. Now I weigh 162 lbs, and am asked at least twice a week when the baby is due and do I know if it is a boy or girl. I do get the night-time cravings for food, but have found that if I take a couple of fiber pills and drink 8 oz of water it will help. I eat a VERY healthy diet, and exercise regularly (always have) and am still gaining weight. There HAS to be something better out there.

Well I'm with all of you. I have been on 300mg of Seroquel at night for sleep and within 3 months gained 30 pounds. I hired a trainer and train 4 days a week boot camp style. Then on top of that I have to do an hour of cardio a day maintaining a heart rate of 165. I have been working out like this for 5 weeks and lost 2 pounds.
I stopped the Seroquel 2 weeks ago, maintain my workout schedule, and take in 1000 calories a day period. Why can't I even loose 1 pound? I'm working my a@@ off and can't drop a pound. My trainer is even frustrated.
Now I can't sleep at night and I can't loose any weight. I'm not giving up but don't know what else I could possibly do. I'm working harder than anyone I know. I have lost many inches but no weight, PLEASE HELP!!!

Daily Horoscope for December 12

Capricorn

You'll value the chance to have some time to yourself today because you've got plenty to think about and you need some peace and quiet in which to do it. However, this may be easier said than done because certain people are feeling very voluble and they'll be glad of the chance for a chat. You may have to make an excuse if you're really craving some solitude.
