ReVia / Antibuse what is the differance

I am alcoholic and I went through detox about a month ago. Thank god the doctors helped me through the worse 3 days of my life. After detox my doctor put me on Revia to help with my driking problem. I have been sober for 3 1/2 weeks. What is the differance between Revia and Antibuse. All along I thought I was on the drug that was going to make me ill if I drank. Help, I am confused.

Revia should stop you craving alcohol, whereas Antiabuse won't stop you wanting it, it will just make you sick if you drink alcohol - negative reinforcement. I haven't tried either, I'm just doing 'internet research' at the moment for my own problems. BTW, from what I've read, Revia (naltroxone) has no long term benefit when taken while sober, it reduces the desire to take alcohol, but has a rebound effect when dropped. Everything I've read said that it is only effective long term if taken while continuing to drink alcohol, it breaks the alcohol/endophin release mechanism, and eventually your body will stop associating drinking with something desirable/pleasurable. I don't know if it is true, although I haven't found any study yet that contradicts this.

How much does Naltrexone cost for you, does your health insurance cover it? just wondering cause it isnt covered at all for me.
