I know that generic forms should contain exactly the same active ingredients as the branded ones and that this is strictly controlled. In spite of this I've read somewhere that some generic versions of modafinil might be less effective than the original provigil. Does anyone have any experiences with this?

I've noticed that the original provigil is a little stronger than the stuff that is supposedly the same (the non-name brand). There isn't a major difference that I've noticed, but have sensed a slight difference in strength.

The original, Cephalon gives me a lot of energy and keeps me awake. When taking the others, I have no energy and fall asleep easily.

I have tried both the name brand Provigil and the generic Modalert. I feel the same on both. I did, however, take Modapro (not sure who manufactures it) years ago and that did not help me very much. I now buy my Modalert online here: http://www.narcolepsycenter.com/prescriptions... and feel fine with it. It's tough when you're on meds for so long - sometimes they do seem to be less effective but maybe just take a break and then get back on...good luck.

I'm curious to know where you guys are getting the generics? There is no generic formulation for Provigil. However there are multiple manufacturers who make this product. Some prescription labels will list the generic name on it, but that does not mean you have the generic medication. I know sometimes the VA will have the generic name on the bottle and does not necessarily mean it is a generic product. What makes it confusing for consumers is that the generic name is also the chemical name of the drug. So some pharmacies will list the chemical name. If you actually have a generic Provigil, then the pharmacy you are getting it from is dispensing medications that are not approved by the FDA and most likely from another country.
