can provigil be addictive? I know someone who is taking it that has not been medically diagnosed with the need to use it.

I am recovering alcoholic & drug addict for over 12 years and found Provigil was addictive to me. Told by medical doctor since I have sleep apnea that this would help as well as cpap and made a special point of asking if it was addictive due to my background. No was the answer and now find myself year later abusing the medications. Its unfortunate thou because I have always been tired and the two cpap & Provigil are quite effective.

I remember a slightly euphoric feeling from my first 200MG provigil. I was diagnosed with IH and I have been taking Provigil for more than three years. When I don't take it I feel like gravity is pulling me down; I feel very heavy and every move seems to take extra effort.
I didn't realize how tired I was "pre-Provigil". Now I feel energetic, productive, and alert.
Don't be discouraged by the the "uneasy" feeling. It should lessen over time. If not, yu might try a lesser dose and talk about it with your neurologist.
Good Luck,
Dave

When I first starting taking provigil, I also had an uneasy feeling. I also could not sleep at night and went into a horrible cycle of taking it, not sleeping, then taking it because I was so tired, and on and on. It took two weeks before I felt "normal" and slept well at night again. I now continue to take it, but not everyday. When I do take it I feel extremely focused and get a lot of things accomplished. I wonder if the way I feel on provigil is the way a normal person feels everyday. I like the feeling and it helps because I have narcolepsy/excessive sleepiness. Hope you adjust and feel better.

I've only been using it for couple of months and it has made all the difference. But when I don't take it I sleep all day, is it that addictive, as I am also recovering

I was addicted to crystal meth for 3 years and could not quit and keep up with all of my work, family, community obiligations. I had tried everything.
Then my doctor gave me provigil, after just 5 days on provigil i stopped using crystal all together.
And have been off of it for 10 months.
Provigil saved my life.

Addictive or not it makes all the differnece in the world to me. I have chronic fatique from Lyme disease. I don't care if it is addictive. I feel normal when I take it. I feel I'm probably more addicted to trying to feel as normal as possible. I take 1/2 of a 200mg pill at 7:00 am and the other half at 1:00 PM. It takes me to bed time .....almost then I crash sort of, but hey it's time to sleep anyway right?

Provigil seems nowhere near as dangerous as Adderall, Dexedrine, et al but I still think people should be wary of it. While it definitely helps me focus and boosts my mood there are serious drawbacks such as teeth grinding. I also seem to look pasty and worn down when I take it and haven't slept enough the night before.

Provigil has a serious down side and I think it is quite addictive. Also if I take it every day, it is WAY less effective. I have experienced some tolerance issues and I found myself looking forward to the mood lift. Jury is still out for me and Provigil and I think that less and less frequent is better.

I was a wreck, from pubertic to my 30's and then with a cpap all that changed. I had been told I was bipolar, a gland disorder and every other morontic thing till that was discovered. Ten years later I am productive and prospering. Also have begun two years ago to take provigil. balancing is hard as I am up to long or crash and with out it I am a coach potato. With out these supports life is impossible. Why does insurance companies act like if you would diet you would be fine. I with in 20 pounds of my perfect weight and am at 13 on my cpap. I want to be reconized as disabled even though with a cpap and provigil I am okay. I hate begging and crying when we were a week without power to be allowed, finally I was allowed to sleep at the hospital. I cannot be allowed a generator as medical as a fatty it is not due. I hate insurance companies an the long process to fight everything. Not fair. Until I get near breaking, cry and get real frazelled till anyone cares. I want masks that don't blow out at 10, I am in a beta group now for masks after battling for it. I have three new cpaps and six masks. I live in one area and work in anther and have a travel one. and I have been taken to the litte room in the airport when the security won't let me take my cpap on the plane. and why are there no airplane power sources for US!!! We have rights and if they will translate to spanish the should let me sleep and let us have an area to plug in at during long layovers or other issues.

The only thing I agree with is that uneasy feeling when you take it the first time. The pills appear to be totally useless to me. It is now 2:30 PM. I took 2 100mg at 6am and 2 @ 9am. I was dosing off 30 minutes ago and I just took 3 more.

I have a question for the people that abuse these things. How many of these things do you have to take to get any use out of them?

I'm not trying to get high. I do have sleep apnea. As of right now I will be telling my doctor don't bother giving me these worthless things. He gave me 30 100mg pills and I'm supposed to take 1 a day. When I asked him about Provigil,he behaved like I asked him for crack. I thought to myself:"that must be some good sh*t".
I sure don't see what there is to get addicted to.

It's clearly not addictive since you don't experience withdrawal, but for some people it may be habit forming. It's a nice habit to have though!

First to bill wow you must be a real pill. And learn your rights because having a plug in on the plane or airport is not even close to a right. And insurance companies cant give the world to everyone its just not possible if you want more work harder earn more money and buy a second health ins package.

As far as provigil is concerned i take it and i stop sleeping till i hit a point where i cant function and i stop for a day to catch up on sleep. I notice mood brightening and there is no addiction i mean come on guys stop saying its addictive we live in a world today where people claim weed is addictive.

Im an addict for 15 years. I can get addicted to just about ANYTHING that feels GOOD. Addiction is simply a psycho/physio reaction to a "pleasurable" stimuli. The brain/body wants to experience that pleasure again and again...that is what a craving is, eventually the user repeats this cycle despite negative consequences experienced...that is what addiction is. Its just that some stimulus are more reinforcing than others. Example..Heroin/Cocaine cause more intense pleasure than lesser chemicals..therefore they are highly addictive.

How may mg were you taking. I have been in the same situation in the past, and I find all these years later, I still need something, but will not go back to crystal meth
