I have been taking Proscar for 11 months. Works great for BPH but I have experienced lack of libido and rarely now get night time erections. When I ejaculate there is hardly anything there so assume must be retrograde ejaculation. I have to say that this is all preferable to the BPH symptoms I was experiencing and far preferable to the other drugs that I was prescribed which caused me to faint!

Check http://www.propeciahelp.com to learn about the dangers of this drug. If you're considering taking Finasteride for hair loss, DON'T. Read the member stories, blood tests and STUDIES on Propeciahelp.com about the dangers of this drug. There are many men now experiencing secondary hypogonadism and early Male Andropause (low testosterone/DHT, high Estrogens, low LH/FSH) as a result of usage, and side effects did NOT resolve after quitting. Many men have been left with decreased semen volume, shrunken penis/nuts, impotence, Peyronie's Disease (crooked penis), decreased mental capacity and total loss of sex drive, to name but a few. Side effects of this drug are very real and can be dangerous for those that get them, as for the most part they seem to be IRREVERSIBLE and PERMANENT. Male Andropause, a condition usually seen in men aged 50+, is now affecting young men in their 20s thanks to this drug. DHT is a vital male hormone and you are playing with fire by messing with it. Finasteride does more than block DHT, it also interferes with: ˇ blockade of numerous neurosteroid pathways -- such as 5AR-reduction of Progesterone ā Allopregnanolone (via 5α-DHP) ˇ blockade of 5AR reduction of Deoxycorticosterone ā 5αTHDOC (via 5α-DHDOC) ˇ blockade of 5AR reduction of Androstenedione/Testosterone ā Androstanediol (via 5α-DHT) ˇ interference with the brains GABA-A receptor, due to depleted Allopregnanolone If any medical professionals know how to reverse the permanent damage this drug has caused to some men, please visit propeciahelp.com and let us know what the cure is.

Madvesh, Yes, it seems diabetes is a possible complication of Finasteride use. Merck themselves note this in their own documentation: http://www.propeciahelp.com/forum/viewtopic.p... http://www.merckfrosst.ca/assets/en/pdf/produ... "PAGE 7: Although the clinical significance is unclear, a higher incidence of cataracts (4.2%, finasteride vs. 2.5%, placebo) and diabetes (2.8%, finasteride vs. 1.7%, placebo) was observed in patients receiving finasteride. " I suggest you read through the FAQs, Finasteride Studies, and posts on http://www.propeciahelp.com for some answers. Suggest you get your bloodwork as outlined on that site, you may have more issues than just diabetes, including low Total/Free Testosterone levels as a result of the drug.

I took Proscar for 12 months, after 1 month, I couldn't achieve an erection, it didn't significantly reduce the size of my prostate, so I had to have the surgury anyway. It's been another 6 months now, and I still can't get an erection. I'm 39.

It started with a wierd reaction one night when i experienced a stomach disturbance and a nerve tingling feeling going through my body like a toxic reaction. The day after my tongue had swollen my eyes where impaired and i had a raging thirst. ive since developed premature aging of my skin - i look seventy under my eyes, diabetes mialitus symptoms, glycemic eyes, neuropathy all over, tinitus, insomnia i freeze in cold weather and boil when warm, my gums are reducing its got to be finasteride symptoms, my life is ruined. Im a father of three with a lovely wife all of whom are shocked at my transformation from an athletic, fit 40 year old to a lethargic scared ill man. The worst thing is the docs cant diagnose me with anything. I think the inhibiting side of finasteride has aged my blood cells and destroyed others - some metabolic adverse reaction at cytochrome p450 and the Gaba a receptors. HELP

I was recently prescribed Propecia again, having discontinued its use many years ago due to financial difficulties. Now that I am researching the drug again, I find scads of these alarmist sites. Can anyone point to any reliable studies on HUMANS that demonstrate the risk of permanent side effects? Thanks.

Mavdesh, I don't know why someone your age would even think of taking finasterides. My understanding is that they're for hair loss and enlarged prostate (BPH). BPH usually only occurs in men of middle age and older.

Urologist seem to think me taking Propecia has caused me to have retrograde ejaculation, which I was diagnosed with one month ago. It did regrow my hair 50% though. It also causes me to have less erections, edurance and desire (sexually). The con´s outweight the pro´s. Rather be bald and have full use of penis than hair and not. Hope this helps somebody. I´m 31 years old.

There is NO medical or scientific evidence at all to support any side effects being IRREVERSIBLE and PERMANENT even after stopping taking proscar. You are making FALSE AND DECEPTIVE STATEMENTS!! And for the record,, the only side-effect I got from taking proscar was a FULL HEAD OF HAIR! Works like a charm.

Guess what -- permanent difficulty obtaining an erection is now an officially listed side effect possibility of this drug, thanks to new labelling changes from the Swedish Medical Agency: http://www.propeciahelp.com/forum/viewtopic.p...

PROVE IT!!! That weblink doesn't prove anything, could have been written by a 12 year old kid as far as you know. provide me a DIRECT LINK to the Medical Association OF USA webpage. Google links or links to propeciahelp.com/forum do not count as they never list the persons name and qualifications who wrote it and never list any scientific and medical reports that were OFFICIALLY carried out and approved! All it does it show some swedish link which cannot be confirmed. And the Swedish medical council has NOT confirmed that information is accurate! Do you believe everything you read on google or the internet like some brain dead zombie?

By the way Joe, you are making a fool of yourself and any credibility you have is destroyed. I bet you cannot even read fluent Swedish, so you don't even know what the hell that Swedish website says.
You are a foolish boy who just believes whatever you are told.
Besides, that Swedish medical products agency is NOT the authorised Swedish medical institute.
Try again foolish boy!

ENGLISH PDF: http://www.lakemedelsverket.se/upload/SPC_PIL... You can navigate to the Prescription Information document yourself from their web site. 1. Go the web site of Läkemedelsverket (Medical Products Agency in english): http://www.lakemedelsverket.se 2. Make sure you are viewing the Swedish version of the web site (and not the English version). Press the Swedish flag (to the right of "Contact us" text) to get to the Swedish version of the web site. 3. Press "Hälso- & Sjukvård" on the left side. 4. Press "Sök läkemedelsfakta" on the left side. 5. Press "Humanläkemedel A-Ö" on the right side. 6. Press the letter "P" (for Propecia). 7. Search the web page for "Propecia film-coated tablet ENG -publicerad: 2008-10-20", and you will find the document. And you can actually get to the Swedish version of the Presciption Information from Merck Sharp & Dohme's (MSDs) Swedish web site too. 1. Go to: http://www.msd.se 2. Press "Våra läkemedel" on the top of the web page. 3. Press the "För patienter" link to the right of Propecia. 4. You will now be directed to the Swedish version of the new Prescription Information. ---------- 1. FASS.se (The Swedish Medicines Information portal website) where the new prescribing info is hosted, is run by LIF.se, the Swedish Association of the Pharmaceutical Industry. - From LIF.se, talking about Fass.se: "The Swedish Medicines Information portal on the Internet. On Fass.se you can find e.g. product information approved by the authorities, packages and prices." - Read and download this PDF (official FASS brochure)- http://www.lif.se/cs/E_Handel/Dokument/56A574... - From the above: "Fass provides only product information that is approved by the authorities no promotional texts or advertising." - From page 5: "Fass has been developed by the Swedish Association of the Pharmaceutical Industry (LIF) in close cooperation with Swedens research based pharmaceutical industry. ...To provide a safe platform for medicines information in Sweden, four parties have formed a Private Public Partnership to establish a national repository for medical products available on the Swedish market. This is known as the National Medical Products Register (NMPR). The four parties are the Medical Products Agency, the Pharmaceutical Benefits Board, the National Corporation of Pharmacies and the Swedish Association of the Pharmaceutical Industry (LIF). Data from NMPR is a part of Fass." - About LIF -- The Swedish Association of the Pharmaceutical Industry http://www.lif.se/cs/default.asp... "LIF is the trade association for the research-based pharmaceutical industry in Sweden. Through its membership of more than 60 pharmaceutical companies, LIF is the voice for the significance of the pharmaceutical industry for an efficient and modern medical care. LIF is also a service organization for the members and continuously informs them of developments which can influence the work conditions for their operations in Sweden." ---------- 2. The fact that Merck is linking from THEIR OWN WEBSITE (msd.se) to Fass.se tells us that they consider the new Propecia info legit, even if they haven't published it directly on msd.se and it's being hosted on fass.se. Otherwise, they wouldn't post the link to fass.se, or use the "old" prescribing info.

Yes James, I'm serious. Did you not see the section under Possible Side Effects?
"Frequency unknown:
- persistent difficulty having an erection after discontinuation of treatment
- infertility has been reported in men who took finasteride for long time and had other risk factors that may affect fertility. Normalisation or improvement of seminal quality has been reported after discontinuation of finasteride. Long-term clinical studies about the effect of finasteride on fertility in men have not been conducted."
