Novartis has announced that Prevacid 24HR has been approved by the FDA as the first OTC Proton Pump Inhibitor for the treatment of frequent heartburn since 2003.

Please tell me it is REALLY TRUE that Prevacid will be generic and/or OTC soon! I have been fighting to pay for this with and without insurance since 2005. It is the best pharm news I have heard in years!

Unfortunately I think the OTC version will only be for a 15mg version.

There is also *supposedly* a 30mg generic (via prescription) hopefully coming out in the USA this year.
