No. Buy my bones are hollow. After taking Prevacid for seven years, I have developed osteoporosis. Apparently it inhibits ones ability ti metabolize calcium. Any one else have similar issues?

I started to put 2 and 2 together, but I have been fighting chest pain, tachycardia, and overall feeling like crap for a year, and finally realized that most of it started after being forced to leave nexium because of UHC, and going to prevacid, since not much else worked on me. Going to discontinue use of it and see what happens.

Has anyone noticed a drop in blood pressure while taking prevacid. I take Benicar HCT and have for over two years. Started taking prevacid about three months ago for gastritis and acid reflux. Noticed an drop in heart rate, blood pressure and irregular heartbeats. Had to lower dosage of Benicar and still experiencing low blood pressure. Is there a correlation? Has this happened to anyone else? My physician doesn't seemned concerned but I am.

I also take Prevacid as well as Benicar HCT. Yes, bp dropped, but I took that to be a good thing. I thought the irregular heartbeats I also have like savannah were a results of the "mild heart murmur" noticed after taking Vioxx for hearly a year.

Thought you would like to know. I did a lot of research and then called the manufacturer. After an hour on the phone with them it was confirmed that hypotension, irregular heartbeats and muscle aches are associated with Prevacid and considered a side effect in a small percentage of the population taking Prevacid. I became very concerned, especially with the low blood pressure readings and the irregular heartbeats. I was ready to make an appointment with a cardiologist, but knew better since I just had an echo a month ago that had normal results. I have been off the Prevacid for three days and today is the first day I feel normal. Blood pressure is returning to pre Prevacid levels (normal readings). My physician told me he appreciated all of my research and quite frankly, never considered the 1% who will demonstrate side effects other than the usual. Doesn't mean we are not normal, just that we metabolize the med differently. Anyway, if I were you I would get off the Prevacid. Prilosec will probably give you the same side effects. Doctor is doing research to see what drug regimen he wants to use. Quite frankly, I believe my gastro problem is healed since I am not having any symptoms. Let me know what happens with you.

Please take care of yourself John O.!
My friend diagnosed w/ acid reflux, given Prevacid over the past 10 + yrs., has developed osteoporosis. Tragic consequences for an individual of only 50 yrs.! She was offered a new 'bone enhancing'(Boniva like) intravenous form taken once per year to counter her brittle bones.(It made her deathly ill!) Needless to say, the Prevacid is no more. An appointment to a gastro specialist was made and she is now taking gaviscon and it seems to be working just fine!

I too have experienced a drop in blood pressure and heart rate with nexium and prevacid. My doctor said it is impossible for this to happen. I went off and then back on and the same thing happened.

Why won't these doctors listen. I called the manufacturer and they told me that some people do experience a drop in heart rate, blood pressure and have irregular heartbeats. I had the same problem with Pepcid Complete, Prevacid and Prilosec. How do you treat these conditions when you have these unusual side effects. I am very discouraged.

I take Altace 10mg. After taking Nexium , Prilosec and Prevacid for non h pylori gastric ulcer I have had numbness, tingling and burning over entire body as well as neck pain. It would appear that lansoprazole is not for me. Anyone else experience these side effects??

My wife was on Nexium for many years and had excellent results. Then her insurance company switched her to Prevacid about four months ago. Now she's developed Collagenous colitis. Can anyone shed some light on this i.e. is there a direct cause and effect?

The drug Gaviscon does the same thing to your bones that Prevacid does, according to the warning on the Gaviscon web site

I started taking Prevacid in January and noticed slight tremors and tachycardia right away; in May I started having supraventricular tachycardia. I thought perhaps it was anxiety as about the same time I started Prevacid my Mother had cancer treatment but strangely on May 9ths, all of the sudden, it got much worse. I have d/c the Prevacid and am awaiting it to get out of my system before diagnosing it. I plan on going to doc this week; I have never had problems before with tachycardia.

It amazes me that so many of you, here, decide to wait to return to the doctor, after having discontinued the medication. What if it causes permanent cardiac damage? You owe it to yourselves to find out. It strikes me, too, that this type of drug may well be similarly dangerous, insofar as side effects, to the anti-inflammatory drugs which were belatedly taken off the market, after years of over-use, by specialists and GP's alike! My goodness, folks,***take care of yourselves in a timely manner!***

I find this amusing, beause I took Fosamax for about 4 years, it is the Fosamax that gave me the GERD. So, now what do you do? Prevacid worked the best for me, but my ins will not cover it. Only Aciphex. I think I probably have mild to moderate IBS, so almost any of them I have a problem with.

I keep reading these reviews about prevacid... and am very upset that there are not more warnings about things that can happen when taking this medication...
I took this medication for about a year and a half... I thought that it was a God send... until I suffered a Massive Heart Attack and the Dr. told me that there was a good chance that prevacid is what caused it!!!
I do not care if it is a 1% chance I think that ppl should be informed about all of the things that can happen regardless how minimal the chances are...
As a person who had the misfortune of being one of these so called one in a million chances that this can happen to.... I am infuriated!!!
I thank God every day that I am still here... and am angered every time I see one of the adds showing this product!!!
BTW... this happened to me this summer... I was in fairly good health... with no history of heart problems... and was only 41 years old!!!

It is reassuring to know that many of you have recognized that Prevacid, Prilosec, whatever may be at the source of your heart palpitations, tachycardia, etc because it now gives me pause to start reexamining whether these meds are at the 'heart' of the matter regarding my own similar symptoms. Its awful not knowing--I'm going to 'up' my consumption of digestive enzymes first and foremost to help avoid symptoms that I typically would take Omeprozole for and then wait as long as I can hoping my GERD won't occur. I've already spent time at my doctor's with normal findings on my Echo and of course the EKG was off due to the palpitations. My doctor gave me a Beta Blocker which wiped me out and of course which I'm not going to take. I'm praying that I've found the problem and will consult (again) with my doctors regarding this!

I am really glad that you have found this information...
I hope that it saves you from having to go through what I did!!! I am not sure what your age is... but I assure you any age is too young to have to go through this... as I said in my post above... there should be warnings no matter how low the risk...

Today's Full Moon will have a powerful impact on your health during the next few months. Maybe this is the spur you need to inspire you to take better care of yourself, such as improving your diet, getting more exercise or finally consulting the doctor about something that's worrying you. It will also be the end of a chapter connected with your work, but don't fret because this ending will lead on to a new beginning.
