Dear Jackie,
I have been on prednisone for 40 years. Since I was 13. I now have adrenal insufficiency, hypothyroidism, hypopituitarism, thin skin and yes depression, anxiety, and some aggressive behavior. The prednisone can throw off the HPA Axis. That is Hypothalmus, Pituitary, and Adrenals. These glands not only signal each other to do their function, but signal every organ and cell in the body to do their function. The pituitary governs all neurotransmitters(Brain Chemicals. I have to take medication for the imbalance in the brain. The prednisone has caused me to be on 13 different medications to keep me sub normal. It is a good drug for inflammation, but the side effects are permenent, and worrisome. Don't give up hope. You mom might be able to go onto a lower dosage if other inhaled meds are introduced. The inhaled meds may take a while to work. As her pulmonologist.
She may look into eating an antiinflammitory diet.
Also good Omega-3 is a good anti inflammitory. I also take Thymic Protein A. It helps to boost the T-cells and NK- cells. This will help to keep abnormal cells at bay. I have sooo much info. I hope what I have written will help.

Has anyone on Prednisone experienced burning tongue syndrome in addition to all the other nasty side effects? I have 3 days left of weaning off Pred. Can't wait to be free of these feelings of anxiety, nervousness, puffiness, you name it.

Forty years on prednisone is unbelievable...what's the lowest dose and the highest dose you've been on...i've been on it for fourteen months due to a heart transplant but they can't seem to get me lower than ten mg or i get slight rejection...the doctors tell me long term use of prednisone can lead to some forms of cancer...anyone heard this?
