I was prescribed prednisone to help w/my asthma as I recover from a bad flu. I was told to take 60mg every morning for 5 days.
I've taken pred. before and never have felt this bad from it before. I have severe headaches and severe dizzyness.
I go to the county clinic and have been trying to get in touch w/my doctor all week and she never has called me back.
Right now I finally feel better (after almost 24 hours), but I'm supposed to take another dose this AM (in about 3 hours). I don't want to.
I cannot function on these pills.
I'm afraid if I go to the ER they won't help me, because right NOW (as the pills' effects are finally dissapating) I don't feel bad. But if I take them and feel bad again, I cannot drive myself to the hospital.
Please help!! What should I do?

Prednisone is dangerous. They made me go crazy. I should of and would of NEVER taken it if I had known all the side effects. Be careful, Protect yourself. If your doctor is hard to get in touch with and won't return phone calls, then what kind of doctor would put you on a dangerous medication---OH, THAT kind of doctor would want you on a dangerous drug. JUST SAY NO> NO NO NO

the doctor who invented this drug killed himself so be careful taking his medication which can alter the mind and cause cortisol(steroid) psychoses!!!!!!!!!! Basically, in layman's terms, crazy.

First of all are you people serious????

Doesn't sound like any of you are taking this med properly if its the only med you are on.

One never takes prednisone without gradually decreasing the dose daily.

60 mg may be too high a dose and that sounds very much like it shoud be a 10 day dosage pak and not 5 day. I take this med for asthma so I know how to take it.

Its a very common drug for asthma or skin allergies or any severe allergy and people would die without it.

You can call your pharmacist and let them explain to you this med and how to take it and side effects and etc.

But this med is always prescribed to gradually decrease the dose daily and never go off it at once. You have to know how to properly take this drug. Some flushing of the face and after being on it for about 8 days can make some people cranky. Nothing to worry about.

When the doctor ordered me the high dose they said if I feel its too much cut back--and 60 a day is too much for me--but you always have to gradually decrease this dose.

Either way call your pharmacist and talk to them about it.

Of course, Jane, we ALL know how to use this medication...it's called weaning off appropriately until we ALL get completely off of it for GOOD. There are natural remedies out there instead. Mangosteen juice reduces inflammation and is haled as being MORE powerful than prednisone....and WITHOUT side effects. It has helped a friend of mine who has Crohn's. She hasn't had a flareup in the last 4 months-since she began drinking Mangosteen. She got it in a health food store where the only ingredient is 100 percent Mangosteen fruit.

By the way, I was prescribed a Medrol Dose Pack. On day four, since my allergies/blocked eustachian tube wasn't any better, the doctor switched me to Prednisone 20mg for four days, then Prednisone 10mg for four days. That's all it took for me to experience drop in blood pressure, heart palpitations, dizziness, rapid heart rate, muscle numbness, weakness, light-headedness, flank pain, just plain feeling "not right". Once I got off the prednisone, I went to my local health food store and bought SinuFix. It's a natural nasal spray and SinuFix vitamin capsules. That was 2 weeks ago and I absolutely have no more allergy moments or ear problems. Plus I irrigate my nasal cavities with a saline nasal rinse. It's been awesome to be able to breathe with no clogging. Natural is where it's at, let me tell you. I do not and will not trust doctors ever again. They push meds mainly for the sole purpose of getting a bonus check or rebate check from the drug companies.

I am going to try that Manosteen tomorrow--I am trying to get rid of this asthma. How does it work for the asthma and the chronic attacks?

I do not understand some of these post and how these people are being prescribed prednisone. My brother who lives in another state called me and told me the doctor prescribed him prednisone 5 mg for sinus headache and he says he don't take it all the time just if his headache gets real bad. This is not to be taken like its an antihistamine.

This is a dangerous drug and I am well aware of its danger and why I have tried alternative healthcare due it its dangers. I am now only having a asthma attack every 10 months as verses the every 3 months and of course then its the 10 day pred pak.

Between the inhalers and prednisone how can people tell what is affecting them. But I have never heard of the way these post and the use of prednisone is being given by doctors. Even a phramacist will warn you of dangers if they feel its not being used right or prescribed right.

tell your brother to go to his local health store (like healthquest, GNC, etc) and ask for SinuFix nasal spray and SinuFix vitamin capsules. This combination has COMPLETELY cured my chronic sinusitis plus I am off of nasal spray addiction that I have had for over ten years!!!!!!!!!! There is also a natural nasal spray called SinusBuster. SinuFix is also completely natural. I was a skeptic. I didn't think a natural spray would work but it did...and within 4 hours, my sinused were more clear than they had been in years. Prednisone should not be taken occasional like your brother is taking it. He should completely get OFF of that medication ASAP. Mangosteen juice will kick his sinus problems away for good, also. It acts a antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, antihistamine. Look it up on google for the rest of its benefits with no side effects. Best wished and Godspeed.

The most dangerous drug ever known and invented! You just can take it if it's question of life! I had been taking it for RA for 3 months and stopped gradually. It does not matter! I developed extremely high blood pressure, weakness, panic attacks, depression! Practically it ruined my normal life! Doctors have no clue how to deal with its devastating side effects. DO NOT TRUST DOCTORS! They will naver tell you the truth how dangerous this DEVIL's prednisone is!!!

Are you aware about short and long term side effects of this Devil's drug??? Of course, everybody reacts differently while take or withdraw. But there are high number of people who react terribly bad!!! Doctors do not want to recognize and discuss this. They just keep silent... Do you know exactly how Prednisone works??? Nobody knows this for sure, even doctors!!! From my personal experience, and despite gradual withdrawal, I developed extremely high blood pressure, weakness, panic attacks, depression! Practically it ruined my normal life! Doctors have no clue how to deal with its devastating side effects. Steroids are not selective. When you take a steroid, the drug infiltrates the nucleus of every single one OF YOUR CELLS AND STARTS MONKEYING AROUND WITH GENES IT FINDS THERE!!! It probably plays with hundreds of genes. And just a small number of these genes control the pain and inflamation associated with inflamatory diseases, so steroids turn many of these genes off which is good thing. However, because steroids sre not selsctive, they also regulate the genes that control kidney, liver, BRAIN, and HEART function - which is not good thing!!! It is likely that steroid treatment plays with other genes, too, including those we do not know about a lot right now...So, Prednosone pervades the entire body, which increases the likelihood of short-term side effects and long-term DAMAGE. My advice is: THINK TWICE BEFORE TAKING PREDNISONE!!!

Hi! I had been taking Prednisone for 3 month starting with 7.5mg. But it does not matter - when you exceed 5mg your body stops producing own adrenalin and your adrenal glands just become "lazy". When you start reducing the dose, it's a BIG QUESTION how long it will take for their recovery!!! And you,of course, will feel all "amenities" of weaning process including extreme fatigue, mood changes (sometimes even psychisis), panic attacks, depression, high blood pressure, rapid hertbeat and other well known side effects. Some people, including me, may need up to ONE YEAR to get back to normal physically and mentally! Again: IT'S VERY VERY VERY DANGEROUS AND UNPREDICTABLE DRUG!!! Always ask for other options(opinions) before you get cought and use common sense not just doctor's opinion. It's your body not doctor's...

Not all drugs are the same for all people. I am with Karol, I've been taking prednisone for 5 years, 5mg as needed for RA and it's been fabulous. It's all in your dosage and how your body reacts. It's not for everyone. But you cannot overreact like this Andrew. Your evaluation is not fact based, it's personal. But then there are those who panic when they read too much into the side effects. You would be surprised what the side effects are on ALL meds if you take the time to read the documents. You would never take another drug. Or you educate yourself and work WITH your doctor to manage your own health.

Dear Chris, I really did not get your idea. Your recognized that everybody reacts differently to Prednisone. I agree with you. But I know personally a big number of people who react very badly including me myself. So, I just want to warn other people to be careful with this VERY DANGEROUS AND UNPREDICTABLE DRUG! And "this Andrew" is advising you to go to http://www.medications.com/login and read other's people articles of Prednisone side effects. I am not alone there. There is also a Club of Prednisone Victims...Now what do you say???

Daily Horoscope for November 23

Aquarius

You may be noticing the effects of Mars in Aquarius now, which will give you the extra strength you need to fight any battles. Unfortunately, Mars does not impart tact or diplomacy as one of his gifts, so try to think before you speak as much as possible. Legal issues can become thorny over the next month or so; employ strategy rather than brute strength to win the day.
