I am taking 10mg of Prednisone per day for one week. I am to drop to 5mg per day until I see my doctor again in March. Will I get a moon face and maybe an increase in appetite taking these small doses?

I am on a maintenance dose of 10 mg and think the real moon face look came when I was on doses of 20mg and more. You probably will not notice the difference.

Thanks for your comments Kathy. I had finally weaned off of prednisone May '05. Early this January I began having symptoms of PMR again although the pain wasn't nearly as bad this time. I had the test and it showed an elevated Sed Rate. The low dose makes me fairly pain free now. It seems like the moon face was finally gone and the weight was coming off and here I go again. Hopefully I can begin to wean off before long. I hope you can also reduce the mgs. before very long.

I love Prednisone. I had to take it for Bells'Palsy and I suffer from severe chronic depression. All of this went away, I didn't have any depression, no arthritis pain, I loved living for the 1st time in my life. I realize that in the long run there would have been problems from the side effects of taking prednisone, but I sure would love to take it for a short amount of time at least one more time. I had no mood swings, it didn't make me irritable, etc.I even told my "shrink" about how good I was feeling, he just smiled. If it weren't for the long range side effects, this would be the wonder drug for me for all my health problems. I love Prednisone.

Dr Templeman has recommended his patient to drink Mangosteen Juice and in the health Journal #44, he said: I have been using Mangosteen with my patients for almost 18 months use Mangosteen extract as a first-line therapy in the following conditions:” In my opinion, the Mangosteen extract equals or outperforms prednisone.

My husband has been on Prednison since September 2003. He was on high doses and now stays at 10 mg each day. Every time he tries to go below 10 his symptoms of CNS Brain Vasculitis get worse. Even on 10 mg each day he feels like his head will go off at anytime. What is Mangosteen extract and where can I get it?

I'm having severe asthma stemming from a cold/flu which is now bordering on bronchitis. Can't breathe, Am very weak, no appetite and get panicky. My doctor prescribed prednisone 10mg in a decreasing scale for the next 10+ days. Anyone with asthma problems that prednisone helped?

I have RA I did 20 minutes of aeorbics and my ankles flared up I was in excrushating pain so I went to the
Rhematoidologist and he put my on 5 mg 3x a day I never
gained weight but I got bad anxiety attachs, very irritable. It took 3 weeks for the inflammation to go down. Now I'm slowly weaning my way off of it my heart races alot. I would get very bad night sweats from it also.

Hello again. This has been a slow process to be able to take just 5mgs of Prednisone per day. I was pain free when I took 7 mgs, then 6mgs and just recently I am without any pain taking 5 mgs. I will try it for a month then reduce the Prednisone by 1mg per month if I am without pain. I would rather have some pain as long as I can tolerate it rather than up the dose again but my doctor told me no way, I am to increase the medicine he doesn't want me to have inflammation. I have no idea why I got this PMR again, perhaps I didn't actually rid my body of it?? I am determined to go slow, give the weaning process more time and to be rid of this disease so I never have to take Prednisone again. BTW, I haven't any noticable side effects except weight gain and I do get tired faster. I think I had every side effect when I was on the higher doses when I had the first bout with this PMR. The doctor said it caused my high blood pressure, ankle and feet swelling and other things that I complained about. I feel badly for others who have to take such large doses due to pain. I wish good health to each of you.

My wife has been on 10 mg Prednisone for 4 years and the problem Ive found is that it slowly accelerated her time to menopause (and irritability) which hits like a brick and we're unable to treat with HRT Because on Primary Biliary Cirrhosis Now we have left the highth of the hormone deacceleration cycle and she is still menstrating and cycling irritability and have been told by the Gynechologist that this could continue for another 7 years. Just the wrong time in her life to add stress. I wish she would have taken the anti depresants that were perscribed at least to try it.

My sister takes this med for Addison's disease. She has been on it for 10 + years now I think. The problem is that it causes her to get thrush (an over abundence of yeast in her mouth and throat). This inhfection can easily spread to her esaphagus(sp), and brain. The medication to get rid of the yeast is extremly exspensive, and it takes a few days to kick in. Have any of you had this problem? And if so is there anthing to keep the growth of the yeast undercontrol?

I have been on prednisone for about 15 years.I an currently taking a daily dose of 20 mg. per day, however my inflamation has become so severe I am on a boost-dose of 60,40,30mg. until the inflammation gets back under control. My inflammation has worsened and the high doses of prednisone have wrecked severe havoc to my health and quality of life. Prednisone has caused me type 2 diabetes, depression, severe mood swings, weight gain of approximately 75 pounds,a very weakened immune system, poor circulation, cataracts, possible borderline glaucoma and more. To stay at a maintaince dose of 20mg. daily has become almost immpossible, and after about 1-2 days my inflammation becomes so severe I barely can get out of bed or stand or walk. Had I known of the side effects, possibly I could have weighed out the pros and cons and perhaps things would be different today. I fear my life has been shortened and I find myself researching for a possible answer to successfully reducing my prednisone dose and reversing some side effects caused by prednisone.

I have tapered down from 5mg to 2.5mg of prednisone. I have noticed that my hair has thinned out more and that i am experiencing hair loss.
Does this eventually stop and does regrowth begin to occur later?

Sharon-So sorry for all of your problems. I have been on prednisone since July 19th for Temporal Arteritis. Gained 10 pounds, diabetes 2-which is a whole other problem. Began at 80 mgs and just dropped to 30mgs. I understand that I will be on it for a year or two. I feel your frustration. Until July I was the healthiest person you ever met. Good luck to you. jleek
