I am 34 weeks pregnant and took lortab until three weeks ago and detoxed with suboxone. I am now clean
Will my baby suffer any side effects? Anyone else ever been in my shoes? Do they always test the meconium?
My OB did not know of my use :-(

discuss with your OB but suboxone is safe in pregnancy but the baby must be monitored to prevent detox if you are still using it. You say you are clean but it's good for MDs to be ready in the event your previous usage created any issues.

I'm not taking anything anymore and haven't in three weeks
We have that chemical endangerment law in my state so if they find out I took narcotics without a prescription I could be jailed and lose my baby
Is meconium test standard? What's the odds of baby withdrawing?

I had to take meds while pregnant with both my kids, but it was by rx. Why would they test the meconium? If they're looking for meds they will do blood tests.

If you are done, the baby is done as well. There should be no more withdrawals and baby should be fine. You quit, that's what is most important. At my hospital we drug test most babies, but if they are clean, it's ok. We have had plenty of mothers who were users, those that stopped and baby born ok, they are fine. If baby tests positive, then CPS comes in and takes over. Very few jail for mom or babies removed - usually mandate rehab, etc.

@really is it just standard urine or blood test?
They say some places test the poop and it goes five months back? Is this true? That's my biggest concern
You seem very smart in this thanks! Does lortab cause any birth defects? Good I'm glad my baby won't withdrawal

You and your baby will be fine. I was taking (prescribed) Vicodin through my whole last pregnancy. My baby did not suffer any withdrawals at all. He is now an honor roll high school student, very athletic...the all American boy. If you have been offoeverything for 3 weeks you really have nothing to worry about. Kick back and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy! As far as drug testing, you will be fine. Around here they do not routinely test babies unless they have reason to believe that the babe is addicted,,,which yours will not be since you are clean.

@Lamama two to three a day My prescribed dose before I got pregnant one every 4 to 6 hours as needed for pain. Never exceeded more than three a day 7.5 mg.
I was physically dependent after being on them for years and was to embarassed to tell my obgyn so I just continued to take them and a friend gave me three 8mg suboxone that I took to detox and then from there quit cold turkey.
Thanks for not judging and helping everyone

Mommy if you were only taking them as directed and then stopped you should be fine. When a person is abusing them and quits cold turkey the risks for IUFD(intrauterine fetal demise) are much greater because the baby is addicted & will withdraw. In our practice we've had a few ladies addicted & the doctors will continue to prescribe for them because they don't want to risk harm to the baby. Of course suboxone is the best way to go. I work for an OBGYN practice so feel free to ask any questions, I would be happy to help.

We no longer accept patients that are using pain medications because the doctors fear what could happen during the pregnancy. Part of my job is getting our addicted patients set up in suboxone conversion programs. Believe me I would be the last person to judge anyone but I'm here to help if you have questions.

Thanks hydrogina! I wasn't mentally addicted but I did go thru some mild withdrawals mostly the runs and no appetite Baby is fine had a good check up yesterday
Do you ever see problems in babies exposed to hydrocodone? Does the hospital drug test the meconium? Or do they only drug test if they see suspicion?
I have been so worried about being drug tested I have made myself sick with fear

I just want my baby to be ok!!! I read of a woman in alabama and the babies poop was drug tested and she failed for mary jane and even tho the baby was healthy they put the mama in jail. I haven't did any type of drugs other than hydrocodone also does suboxone show up on a ten panel drug test like in the poop? I'm really worried about the suboxone :-(

Well you need to try and stay calm and not get too worked up over things. You are definitely doing the right thing! The hospital should only drug test if there was ever a question of medication abuse and even then that's not a guarantee that they will. We would much rather see our patients on suboxone or subutex.

This is a good questionso you might want to bring it up with your Doctor.I would imagine everything would be fine if the Doctor who gave you the meds knew you were pregnant. Plus when wome are i labor they givethem Morphine to take away some of the pain.
