My doctor today said pharmacies won't fill prescriptions for 3 x 80 mg a day anymore. My husband has been on this dose for years for intractable pain. What is he supposed to do? He is not a criminal or an addict, only a victim of chronic pain.
Now, he is a victim of politics, too.

i take those pills one two times a day they are oxycodone er tabs very good for cronic pain however can be very addictive if you crush them you get the full dose at once and that is about 160mg of oxycodone at once i dont reccomend doing that unless your only goal it to get high

Has anyone using oxycontin and/or oxycodone (er or 'regular') experienced any rash conditions? I recently have had a few episodes where I have been diagnosed with 'petichiae'(puh-tee-kee-eye) which is a condition where blood vessels under the skin surface 'burst' and show up as a reddish rash, it does not itch or hurt, and can be caused by other things, but I've read quite a bit about what is referred to as oxycontin rash or oxycodone rash. I've been taking the medication for 8 months (20mg Oxycontin 2x day, and oxycodone 10/325mg 3-4x day) since a severe automobile accident...

Oxy is fun but if ya take it more than 2 days in a row you will feel some withdrawl, i try to only do it on weekends if any. We get the real 40's and 80's all day around my town and the ABG 80's. If your going to chew or snort oxys i suggest do it only in moderation.

what's the difference between mscontin and oxycontin?

Specifically does it do the same job for pain? Are both Schedule II?

I know oyx's are very addictive, is this true with mscontin?

I am looking for a good painkiller that won't kill me. AS I have said before I am on oxycontin and percocet for breakthough, and I am totally dependant and addicted to both.
I want to get off however I have yet to find an effective painkiller that is not a narcotic with the extreme likelihood of addiction/depedance.
By the way, this is a question, and if anyone has been lucky enough to have found something please reply and let me know
thanks

Oxycontin is actually stronger mg for mg according to doctors. Oxycontin is Oxycodone Hydrochloride and MScontin is Morphine Sulfate not Morphine Hydrochloride. MScontin has dosages all the way up to 200mg and Oxycontin has dosages up to 80mg. They are both scheduled II narcotic pain killers and yes do about the same for chronic pain patients. MScontin's are notorious for being addictive and I personally think that MScontins are more addictive even though Oxycontin is stronger, I believe that because its morphine. A 40mg Oxycontin tablet is equivilent to a 60mg MScontin tablet. Also, being dependant on a medicine is the complete opposite of being addicted. Addicts will do whatever it takes to get a fix and if that means robbing then that means robbing, somtimes even more extremes.

Another pain med that you want to look into is Opana ER which is Oxymorphone Hydrochloride Extended Release Tablets, which have just came out on the market and are up for patients who are unhappy specifically with the stigma of Oxycontin.
A 40mg Oxycontin tablet is equivilent to a 20mg Oxymorphone ER tabelt, But still Opana ER is also thought to be habit forming but then again what medicines really arent habit forming?

Have your Doctor pprescribe 3, 40mg oxycontin 2x per day. I had similar problem. Supossible they're worried about liver damage. Hope this helps.

Hey toronto girl. I went through the same thing u are going through, however you have a few options if you really want to get clean. You can either go to detox which isn't fun unless they treat you with a drug called subutex. Subutex takes away your withdrawls in within 3-5 days you will not feel sick at all. Im sure everyone has heard of methodone, but methadone is ten times harder to get off then heroin. Your other option is to find a doctor who prescribes suboxone. It is basically the same drug as subutex but suboxone has an opiate blocker in it meaning if you were to take a suboxone and then take and oxy it would cancel out and make you even more sick. Suboxone is a fairly new drug so they might not have it in toronto, you may have to do some research and find a doctor closest to you. Also, suboxone take away your cravings which is great.

you sound very bleak in your description of getting and staying off oxy's. Has this been your experience?

I am on them, knowing I should get off, not ready.
what did you do the times you went off them to get off them?

has this happened to anyone?

sometimes when I take my oxy's (and perc's) I don't get the relief nor the buzz I am looking, hoping for. Then maybe the next day I will,
These days where I consider them not to be working don't seem to have any why's or wherefores'.

understanding of this or empathy anyone?

hi tg...maybe your tolerance is up...what do you think??? i only feel them for about an hour or so after taking them...then its back to "wondering" about what i have left..my GP doesnt prescribe them for me anymore...i went and saw a drug and alcohol specialist and we worked out a tapering schedule...i was taking between 320-400mg a day when i saw the specialist...my choices were to go on methadone or suboxone or begin reducing {10mg every 20 days}starting at 160 mg a day... i am seriously considering suboxone because i really dont have a grip on this...see ya

thanx for replying. Well yes my tolerance has gone way up. And I know that. What puzzles me is one day everything is alright, and the next day, maybe, nothing, and maybe not for a couple days, then they start to work again. That's what is puzzling me.
Good luck on your journey, let me know how you're doing, ok?
