I've been in pain management now for going off on 3 years it started march 10th of 2009 a sheriff broke my leg and my ankle I had 4 surgeries in 3 months it damaged all the tendons, ligaments, nerves & everything in my leg I developed Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy syndrome. I was put on 150 milligrams a day of morphine for two& a half years. I became addicted to the morphine and lost everything including my wife and son, I was kicked out of my house and I moved back to California where 5 months ago my doctor in California put me on Methadone at 60 milligrams a day. every sense this has happened, it has been like night &day. My whole life has turned around. I got my wife back, I've got my life back, my kids back, I just bought a house for my family and got a new car. Everything is totally turned around and now I'm having trouble here in missouri trying to find a doctor who will continue my methadone treatment for my chronic pain. I need help.my email is [e-mail].

Hey, I just moved to WV panhandle + cannot find a dct anywhere who will prescribe the pain med I've been on for 2 yrs.. Only oxycodone 10 mg but it's impossible to find anyone bc of people who have abused it + messed it up for those of us who have real chronic pain and suffered injuries that will never go away!! Pleas help anyone?? Primary or specialist ?? Thanks so much. I've been out of meds for weeks now + still feel horrible + the pain is intolerable..:(

Sorry!! Wish I knew of one closer. It's very hard to find a Dr here that will prescribe pain meds!!

Yes all Doctors with DEA numbers can prescripe methadone. Here's the catch they can only do it for pain not addiction which in reality they all end up being the same thing. I have done the clinics for years but now I am in a Doctors office who will supply me two weeks supply at a time which is great for me. You can look up doctors who prescribe suboxen and alot of them supply methadone, they just don't advertise it.

I'm currently on methadone from a clinic but I'd like to find a doctor that prescribes it I've done it before through a clinic was on it for a little tapered down pretty quickly and got off it with very little discomfort its the only thing that has helped me but I relapsed and decided to try again but does anyone know if methadone is covered through insurance if prescribed other then through a clinic?

Methadone gets a bad rap and there's a lot of misinformation (imho DISinformation) out there about it.
I've been on methadone, off and on, since 2009 and I think going on it was one of the best decision I've ever made. I haven't stayed "clean" the whole time but I have gone as long as 6 months w/out using h, and even when I have used it hasn't been everyday and it's way easier to stop again.
I have degenerative joint disease and other pain issues but docs never wanted to give me heavy pain meds because of my age (when this started I was about 21) and drug history and I always ended up back on h because I'd used it before and knew it would make me feel better. Every time I wanted to try getting onto meth maintenance someone would talk me out of it. If I hadn't listened, I could have saved myself years of pain and unhappiness.
Methadone myths:
"it makes your teeth rot out." it can make your mouth dry, which is bad for your teeth, but I've heard people say it "leeches the calcium out of your teeth and bones" which is just not true.
"It makes you fat". Lots of people do gain weight but that's more due to the junkie lifestyle changing than to the methadone. Personally,*All* opiates give me the munchies, so i never got skinny on dope. The first few month I was on MMT i LOST 20 lbs because I was walking to and from the clinic and not sitting in the McDonalds parking lot eating fast food and waiting on my dealer once or twice a day.
"It's harder to get off than heroin."
This is what every junkie i know says if you ask why not go on MMT. I had this friend back in MI who had been shooting dope for 13 years but didn't want to "be stuck on methsdone the rest of his life". If you're thinking of starting MMT, chances are you havn't been very successful at staying off H or pills. I think most people don't want to admit it to themselves, but for a lot of us, if you don't do MMT, you'll be on dope the rest of your life.
The withdrawal is longer and for some people a lot worse but not everyone. But if withdrawal was the only thing that kept us addicted no one would relapse when they left treatment or jail.
MMT is better than NA because its based in actual medical science, not in "spirituality". If you take your dose everyday, you may not achieve the lofty puritan ideal of total absinance, but you WILL do less dope, maybe even no dope.
