No Charlotte, I was not referring to you. I was foolishly referring to Dear Charlottle from Muskego, WI, who posted on April 9, 2007, though I am fairly sure she is no longer reading these posts.

I have read your posts and I am fully aware of your pain and suffering, for which I am sorry. Good luck to you and everyone involved in the law suite.

For all those interested in getting information about joining the current class action lawsuit (not law suite) headed by Simmons Cooper LLC, you may obtain their contact information on their website at http://www.simmonscooper.com/ . However, to the best of my knowledge, it is too late to become a plaintiff in the case. If anyone does obtain information from Simmons Cooper LLC, please share it with everyone on this website. Thank you.

How do we file a complaint of addiction to Oxycontin? My husband was given high doses for four years due to recovery from stomach cancer surgery. I kept asking the Doctor about how addictive the drug was.
The Doctor maintained he was not addicted even though the patient,(my husband) was saying he was. My husband wound up going through rehab two times in one year to get off of it as the same doctor put him back on it when he got out the first time. The office kept saying that there are plenty of people who take it and do not get addicted. It was as if they were saying that it was a character flaw that my husband got addicted. The Oxycontin was masking the fact that my husband was really deathly anemic. I have looked and looked for a way file a complaint. Can anyone help me with filing a complaint against Purdue? Or finding an attorney?

After my car accident I was put on Oxy. I was told nothing about the side effects at all. I wasn't even told not to crush or split them. Their are not warnings on any of my bottles over the last 7 years!

I am from Ky. My sister-in law got a settlement from Purdue industry. Cooper was her lawyer. If you want to contact me my e-mail is goldenrod41314@yahoo.com. I can give you her phone no. I am looking for a good lawyer to take my case. I took it for five years and they cut me off cold turkey. I almost died.

You still can make another decision. You don't have to stick with oxycontin. No one is making you stay with it. You can switch to fentanyl or oxymorphone or a combination of the 2 or get off of them all together but what is suing have to do with anything. Normal lives are being led, and you and Jeff are "grateful" for this medication so why would you consider a lawsuit? It really makes no sense, free money maybe but otherwise for legitimate reasons it is irresponsible to think that there is some liability towards Purdue here.
You sure area bit on the self righteous side there. Bottom line, Oxycodone, Oxycontin, whatever you want to call it, is evil. I know people say it has helped them. They, at the same time, have no idea what it's done to their insides. I am deaf in one ear from it, and went through horrible withdrawls when I quit. I was taking 2 10 mg pills a day for chronic pain, but unfortunately, I got hooked on it and even when I didn't have the chronic pain, I had to have at least one pill to get by. The fact that this drug is still out there only proves how much power the pharm companies have. They feed the lobbyists, who feed the doctor's, who screw us. This drug is far more damaging than pot, but pot wouldn't be profitable cause anyone can "make" their own, so it won't be legalized. Instead, you'll see hillbilly heroin stay around for a long time.

Dude you're a freakin moron. You think you know everything, but you don't know jack.

It destroyed their lives because it's a highly addictive and destructive drug. I took my exact dosage for chronic pain. Guess what? I'm deaf in one ear, and it constantly rings. I have balance issues, and my life has been forever changed. When I quit, and I quit cold turkey after my hearing loss, it was the worst 2 weeks of my life. I'm slowly getting my life back, but I've got to live with being deaf in one ear, and the fear that my other ear will go. Your buddy Rush Limbaugh can tell you about Oxy causing deafness too.

Obviously you have never even gazed upon the spine of a law book let alone opened one. There are no legit complaints from either of them because they are leading normal lives due to the medication. They would be counter-sued and be forced to pay court costs for wasting the time of Big Pharm.

As far as you go, you were physically dependent on an opioid medication, just like everyone else that takes them for long periods of time. What did you expect. To be able to stop taking cold turkey oxycodone/Oxycontin and have no withdrawl symptoms after 2 years?

My advice is dont settle, even 10,000 bux isnt wotth one episode of withdrawl. think of the person who spilled a hot cup of coffee in their lap and laughed all the way to the bank. Purdue is counting on the hope that you will settle for the pennies they offer and go buy some more OC's with the cash. HIT THEM BIG.
or not at all. their are principles at stake here.

PART II
This is going to be a a precedent setting decision for the courts. I would not be at all surprised to see this wind up in the Supreme Court.
There is the argument as to whom is responsible for those that have become addicts suit claims. Are the prescribing doctors responsible for not properly informing their patients?
Are the pharmacys responsible? Are the patients responsible for acting, even though they gave informed consent to treatment?
Is the FDA responsible, yet again, for allowing another drug to slip by without proper monitoring and restrictions of use, warning labels, etc? If such was the case, there may be a federal component to this case.
Are insurance companies responsible, for covering such medications instead of covering the actual treatments required to "CURE" the underlying condition?
Such are the arguments that will be presented, as will such arguments that there are millions of patients have used this drug and have not become "addicts."
With only 1000 complaints filed, it's likely that any award sent down by the courts will be of a substantial nature.
Attorney's are not the bad guys here folks. If it were not for lawyers, there would be no airbags, no anti-lock brakes, no smoke detector laws, no speed limits, there would still be asbestos and lead in our homes, etc.
Remember the attorney's are going to have to spend several million dollars, probably around 20+ million dollars, to run the case. This is due to the fact that Purdue is going to throw all it's resources at this case. One multi-million or multi-billion settlement and they are going to be sued by states, on behalf of those their citizens, similar to what has taken place with big-tabacco companies. On top of that they'll take usually 40% if the case goes to trial.
That is more than fair, considering that if they lose the case, they also lose their 20+ million.
Not many law firms in the nation can lose 20+ million without serious financial constraints.
So, let's all just wait and see.
I would not be surprised at all, if this is the case that prompts purdue to finally give in to additives that would allow for oxycontin to retain it's analgesic properties, while disallowing those to become addicted. Such drugs, and additives have been around for over a decade and have been published in peer reviewed journals for many years with drugs such as vicodin and percocet.
Again I think Purdue is the culprit, but I don't think the legal firm, should be condemned as this is not a frivolous law suit, and they have been hard at work trying to get this case filed for some time, on behalf of those, like us, who have become addicted or dependent upon this horrible drug.

Hi everyone, my question is about 'how do I get compensated'? A While back I recall putting my name on a class-action suit against Oxycontin- My experience with oxycontin has been that the more I take the more I need and the tolerance goes up, it's impossible to stay at a steady dose and God only knows where my dose will end up if I don't get off this drug, then getting off this drug seems to be very costly too so I am hoping to get some input on my question and if I am missing any information please reply to me. Thank you very much!

I'd like to add one other horrible side-effect that this drug has on me and it is something called "lucid dreaming" I have the most horrendous nightmares on any given night that it makes me fear going to sleep, fear that I will not wake up from a nightmare before the nightmare seriously freaks me out to the point of intense anxiety. My dreams are so crazy, bazarre, and scary that it is a complete torture to experience, and I my friends was never a dreamer before oxycontin! Never recall having a dream before.
