As a former addict, which i was addictted for 4 years from ages 18-22, to now being a clean person for 18months. At the time i went into rehab i was both snorting and smoking Oxycontin. I was taking anywhere from 320-480mg daily. First Oxycodone Withdrawl Symptoms: Horrible diarrhea, hot cold sweats, hot flashes, body aches and pains, nausea with vomitting, restless leg syndrome, trouble sleeping or no sleeping, tearing eyes, runny nose, yawning (a lot), depression, laziness, irritable. Most of these symptoms are the worst in the first 8 days of withdrawl, some of the minor ones could last up to a month. I sweated for a month and had to change clothes about 3 times a day.( and i am a 6" 1' 180pds not overweight or anything) Rehab. I know you are already cringing. "Rehab isn't for me, i can do it on my own." I said that many times for over a year. Here as follows is just a little info about rehab and the Pro's about going. 1. Professionally distributed medication. At rehab they will evaluate you, ask you what drugs you take and how much. Tip: always say you do alittle more than you actually do so the meds they start you on make the first couple of days easier to deal with. The meds they give you will help with the symptoms of withdrawl. 2. Controlled Environment. This is vital in the steps to becoming clean. Being in a place where you can't leave , although scary and unconfortable, is a godsend when you are hitting day 3 through day 7 of oxy withdrawl. It is also good to be in a place where you have professionals around incase you have an anxiety attack or other emergency's due to withdrawl. 3. Meeting, drug awareness/NA Mental rehabilitation: When taking oxy's it is much more than physical addiction especially when you do it for a lengthy amount of time. Your brain releases the same chemicals as if you were starving or dying of thirst when you are going into/through withdrawl. Meetings that are held in rehabs, as boring as they might be, re-program your brain if you will. They help you tell that little voice in your head to shit the F*ck up when it tries to lead you back the the drugs. Then there is NA. I hated these meetings. Always so boring and corney. But, if you really want to quit pay attention to these people because alot of them are clean and have been for a while. Obviously they are doing something right. Alot of them say you need to "Keep coming back" to stay clean but i went for the first 6mnths of my sobriety and then stopped and i am still clean. These meetings are reminders of where you were when addicted and inspirations of what you can do without dependence. A few tips while inside of rehab are 1. Exercise: this is great for you sobriety, health, and getting over withdrawl. It even releases your bodies natural painkillers(endorphines) which are actually opiates themselves. Due to long use of oxy's your body makes very little to no endorphines. You feel better faster and have more energy! 2. Timing. Although anytime is good to go to rehab and i dont want you not to go just because of this little bit of information. If you live in a place where it gets cold in the winter, the winter is not the most beneficial time to go. This is because many homeless and unprivilaged addicts go to rehab not to get clean, but to get tapering medications and to have a warm place to be. This sometimes creates barriers for people who do want to get clean because of the lack of respect and bad behavior from these people to the group of people they are around. 3. If you are going to really quit, on the first day or 2 you are there take a look around and see who really appears to be into the program and trying to honestly get clean. These people will almost always more than willingly allow you to socialize with them and befriend them. Good luck and if any questions please ask. If you need to talk to me privatly please post and i will give you my email or private message.

I will be also writing some posts on how to try and taper yourself down independently with the help of a few different meds you can buy on the street.

Taking a little bit of a pill instaed of 10-12 whole pills a day. Not too much to argue with there. Watch the subs though. They do have w/d's when stopping. Although they are not as intense as oxcy, if you taper off of them, there are w/d's. I did not go the short route with subs myself and feel that taking away the physical w/d's are a definite benefit, but reducing or eliminating the cravings being the biggest benefit in the end. Just be careful not to get wrapped up in the subs for a long time. There is no free way out or easy way out and you have to deal with it sooner or later. Subs help you deal with it , only later than sooner. I can say though that they were a god send for me. Good luck in your fight!!:)

I started taking oxycodone 3 years ago.. I only needed to take it for 3 days... I can't believe it's been 3 years.. I have been reading these postings and I guess I am confused.. I never took any medication for pain other than the occasional dental surgery or cracked ribs, so I don't really know much about the meaning of the doses of oxycontin some of you say you take.. As far as I can determine, the normal prescription is 5 mg. In my particular case the pills I take are oxycodone/apap 5/500.. I'm sure this means 5 mg of oxcodone and 500 mg of acetaminophen (tylenol).. When I see some of you taking 60-100 mg daily, I just cannot imagine what these doses are like.. I take 2-3 pills a day and even at that I cannot stop taking this crap.. I have quit 3 times in the last 3 years.. each time for 5-7 days... my energy came back. I could sleep through the night (maybe 6 hrs at most, but at least it was sleep) I am 59 years old and would love to be medication free for my 60th in March.. I will not go to a clinic..that is not an option for me.. I am wide open to suggestions and after reading these postings I already feel better knowing that I am not alone.. I still hate myself most of the time for being so weak but at least I am not alone with this addiction..

I live alone and kind of worried I might have a siezure. I have never felt so alone. About 3 years ago my x-girlfriend gave me a little orange pill with the number 40 on it , she said it will help my back that had been bothering me .If I can only go back to that day. She's been suppling me with them since then. God if I only knew what to do .?? please help

Whats working well for me so far is a 3 week suboxone program. It will minimize the WDs and If you go to a doctor and he wants you to go on it longer then maybe you should listen to him. But my theory just get it over with as quick as possible and dont get your brain used to months and months of Bupe saturation. It will be a short and painful journey, but you'll come out fine on the other side, I promise.

Nice job man. Its a journey, a fucking hellish one and as the people of this board can attest, I've certainly done my share of bitchin about it. You hang in there man. From what I understand, you're already halfway through! My doc says it usually takes about 10 days for your brain to bounce back and start producing its own endorphins. You wanna talk about bad WDs... I cold turkeyed off of 90-100 mgs of methadone and 240 mg of oxy a day. I had absolutely no clue of what I was doing to myself for 6 months. I wake up at 5:30, feel like shit about going into a job that i hated and thought methadone wasnt even an opiate, all I knew is that it put a smile on my face every morning and work was enoyable. But when I took off that week to condense my WD experience to short term intense cold turkey I had a new intimate knowledge of hell. If I slept at all, it was only for an hour or two and I'd wake up overwhelmed by the depression, cryin and shit (prior to this I don't think I cried for 10 years and here I was doin it everyday). There were the sweats, the diarrhea, massive anxiety, all that stuff. I would not recommend people do what I did. I had no help, I was just on my own with no WD/sleep aid like benzos, pot, suboxone. My point is, if I could get through that, I know you could get through this. Keep up the good fight. Cuz when its through, you will have an undeniable reason to feel proud of yourself.

Hey everyone. I have been reading your post and they help a lot! I have been taking oxy for the past 5 moths, about 40mgs to 160mgs per day. I have been smoking or snorting them. Before that I was taking Per 7.5's for a bad neck.
So here is my problem, I have a jacked up neck, and my Pain Doc. gives me Perc 7.5's. Well those dont get the job done anymore. I quite once already, and the withdrawals were hell! But the problem is my neck hurts bad if I dont have the pain killers. And I get bad heahaches, and I cant work. So....what do I do about it? Any ideas? Had anybody gone through this too? Thanks.
