Been Addicted wrote: Have you been addicted to these drugs? NO, because if you were you wouldn't tell someone to detox cold turkey. FYI: You can Die from detoxing cold turkey. I quit myself. You have to cut back a pill a day for a week, then do the same the next until you are down to one pill. Good Luck to all who are trying to quit. It's hard, but worth it. Well I read all up and down this page, and didn't see anyone tell this person to quit cold turkey...Everyone is saying it is very dangerous and you could die from it...Unless I missed something, I'm not sure who you are so displeased with..

I can't say for sure about the outcome but He does need medical attention if he is having these symptoms with his past history.

Using subs you will not withdraw at first, but when you get off the subs you will for sure...Yes you can use the hospitals and not as a last resort either...They put it in the same wing as mental health, but it's an actual detox place...The place I went to flew me to Florida, and detoxed me for 12 days, then I was in rehab after that for 18 days....It was pretty much pain free, and the people that you are around really help...Again email me and I will give you this place I am talking about...I would just put it down right now, but don't know if that's ok... I dont know if it is ok either but I would be interested in the place in Fl. and do they take insurance? What is the cost? What is your e-mail?

Listen the best treatment out is buphenorphine...
more info @buphenorphine.com/
it is VERY expensive...but it is the miracle drug. It helped me get off drugs awhile back. If you take other opiates with it....they either are of no use or make you feel sick as a deterrent. The addiction to it is no way near as bad as methadone and all these other treatments. So I suggest you guys have a look.

I was addicted to Oxycontin for about 3 years. At my worst i was taking 5 80mg pills daily. I was an addict buying them off the street. There would be days that i would do up to 9 80's a day. I tried cold turkey but this is almost impossible coming off of high doses of opiate drugs. Kicking An opiate addiction cold turkey, under normal circumstances, can't kill you unless you have other medical problems (ex. high blood pressure, and heart conditions). The best way to do this is to go to rehab. If you are really serious about it go to a rehab facility for 30 days and let professionals taper your meds down. This way you get what professional studies say is the best taper methods and nothing more. Any addict can tell you that when you are getting down to low doses, alot lower than you are used to taking it takes a lot of will power not to make that call to get more or take more than you should. I tried taper, methadone clinic (only for 2 weeks because that stuff is really bad), tried cold turkey, suboxone wasn't really out yet when i stopped but after a year of trying to quit I finally manned up and went to rehab. Best thing i ever done!!! Life took a complete 180. I hate all the NA shit that goes with it but if you work that program until you are off the drugs you should have no problems. Good Luck, and if you do have legit problems like you said then you are going to be living in pain. Maybe explain to friends. and family what you feel. A little note too, while weening off these drugs they actually increase the pain that you are feeling. So good luck i know it is rough and my prayers are with you

I can tell you I have had a L5/S1 Fusson with Screw'a and rods and also I have now a Spinal Cord Stem. I have been on the patch for a year and now I am on Oxy 20 mg 2xday with Vicodne every 6 hrs as needed along with Lyrica for leg nerve damage and Cymbalta for depression. I go to Pain Management and now I have L1/L2,L2/L3,L3/L4 are now bad but doctors will not do a 5 level fusion and I am fighting to get on SSD. Worked all my life and now I am fighting to get what I have paid in to protect me. My kids do not like me anymore because of the pain I am in and the life style I have is crap. I do not go anywhere and I am really fighting that because I am a person that never would miss work till this happened in 2005. After I had my first surgery I went back to work 3 weeks later but then where my back was fussed it snaped the upper levels and I wish I had just stayed off work a little longer to heal but nope I am now disabled and If I was you I would see a Pain Management Doctor and follow what he has and be trueful to him . He will help you.

Blackt. You are pretty much over the worst. My doc told me that in most cases withdrawles last 1 to 2 weeks. Just keep it up and in a week you will feel like your old self. Probabily in the next couple of days you will feel much better. Good luck.

Alan wrote: Why do you want to get off them? Why do you think you're addicted? I have 4 bulging discs, 2 levels of stenosis, spondylosis, thecal sac impingement, facet hypertrophy and modic changes. I am in severe pain 24/7. I wear a 100 mcg fentanyl patch and take up to 120 mg of oxycodone a day. I have seen too many cp'ers stop their meds because of stupid, un-informed comments by doctors, relatives and friends who don't know better. All CP'ers taking narcotics will get withdrawal symptoms if they stop their meds abruptly. WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOMS DOES NOT MEAN ADDICTION! Addiction is a psychological event. Addicts take meds for the high, not for pain relief. They Doctor shop and buy more meds on the street. If the quality of your life improves with the meds, there is no reason to stop. If the meds are ruining your life and you lose money, your house, spouse, etc., then there could be a problem. But don't get off the meds to please relatives or friends. If you need the meds for pain relief, there is no reason to stop them. You're wrong some chronic pain patients get put on these drugs and then before they know it they have a problem. The rx's doesn't last as long and you have to go with less to get through. Not all adiccts dr shop and but illegal drugs. Some of us are blind sided by the way these drugs make you want more even though you don't want to want them. Don't be so seteotypical there are differant people in differant situations.
