Also, the 20mg/TR, shouldn't be any stronger than the 10mg you are taking now, but, the relief will last much longer. It really is a very good pain medicine.

I suffered for years with mind numbing pain. Days would pass where I would only get out of bed to use the rest room, and even then it was almost impossible. I was college educated, completely clean criminal record, an executive in a major marketing firm, making good money, and climbing the ladder. Tropy wife, Beautiful home, good friends.
I was also concealing my illness, and knew the absenses due to the illness were becoming harder to explain. I began seeing a Dr. that prescribed Oxycontin at my request. Just 10mg 3x's daily. This helped, but there were days when I still had significant breakthrough pain. So after about six months he upped the dosage to 20mg and added Lortab 10/650's 3x's a day. This worked,... the Lortabs just piled up at home because I never needed them. After about another 6 months, I began taking a Lortab now and then, finding some excuse for the behavior. Justifying I thought I might be getting ready to hurt so I better be preventitive... By the middle of year two under my Dr's treatment I was plowing through the prescribed Lortab, and Oxy's each month. I complained that we were almost there, but not quite... he added a script for Percocet 10/650 3x's a day, and upped the oxycontin dosage again. At this point, my daily prescribed intake of painkillers was 3 percocet, 3 lortabs, and 3 oxy 40's a day. I thought I was doing great,... fully functioning etc. Granted, I would run dry a full week before my next appointment to get refills,... but I suffered through it... Five years later I have entire months of my life I can't remember. Chunks of time just ceased to exist... I am about to begin serving a year in prison for a stupid white collar crime committed during this time frame,... I never set out to abuse the painkillers,... But here I am nonetheless. If anyone wants to dispute the facts of my story feel free,... I still have the drug info inserts I can scan and post. There is nothing wrong with seeking release from pain... I understand. I don't blame anyone other than myself for where my life is at now, the choices were mine to make and I made them. I just hope maybe one person will read this and think better of starting down what might be a horrible path. Granted,... you may never have an issue with addiction, I don't think I was addicted. About two years ago I just didn't go see my doctor. Didn't get any re-fills,... quit cold turkey. But I guess I hope maybe you'll ask yourself is it worth the risk. I made dumb choices when taking the Oxy's, those dumb choices led to taking more Oxy because I liked being pain free at first, but in the end,... I loved the high. Taking more pain killers led to more bad choices, and I hazed my way through a life most people would kill for. My only caution is that if you're not careful you might wake up one moring and find your entire life has dissapeared around you. You might not,... I'll never take that kind of risk again... |

The moral of the story: Don't take narcotics if you don't need them for pain. Treating "Pain" is the purpose of the drug.
Your doctor shouldn't have prescribed you a narcotic just at your request. Most want to see a history of pain complaints and a diagnostic reason for the pain. Your doctor did you a great diservice. Your pain problem probably could have been diagnosed and treated with other meds or even surgery. By going straight to narcotics you jumped at least three steps in the process. What has happened to your pain LIA? Did it just go away one day? Do you still have it? |

If you cannot pay attention to your girlfriend without taking pills, I would suggest there is a problem there don't you think??? And in response to the mood problems with taking pain meds, yep, I have experienced this, but generally they make me in a good mood until I start coming down.

Please listen to my story. i hurt my back at work my boss sent me to a chiropractor who said he could fix me with no meds. for 1 solid year i go to chiropractor before and after work . till one day i just could not go to work any more the pain was just too bad. So i insisted on an mri. the mri and cat scan showed a busted disk at (L4,-L5)It took another 3 months to get to see a orthapedic Dr. then another month for surgery. They immediately started me on oxycontin20 mg and oxyir5 mg 3 times a day. 3 weeks after surgery dr releases me to go to work . 3 days later the disk bust again it takes 1 year to convince stupid dr his surgery was a flop i finally get a mri and go to a neurosurgeon . who puts a cage in l4-l5 by now there is major nerve damage along with major pain . the oxy got to expensive when the worker comp run out so they changed it to methadone and oxy ir 4 times daily. after 5 years i still hurt just as bad as the day i went to the chiropractor but could not live without my meds . one night i gave up took 5 methadone 5 oxyir 8 soma and 35 i went in a coma for 3 days and the dr cut me off. told me to go to rehab. at that time the hurricaine had the rehab in my area slap full from all the druggies down south moved up to my town in north louisiana. i had to detox on my own at home on my couch. Now this is where you need to listen please. For 14 days i could not eat , sleep, of take a crap i honestly stayed awake 14 days. i could only drink water and pee. I felt like my skin was on fire and like someone poured acid on me and my skin was melting from the burning pain. i had the worst smelling sweat and i sweated perfusely it smelled of chemicals. I had to take 5 or 6 showers a day just to relieve the pain a little and get the smell off. i honestly felt like i was alive in hell. on the 14 day i was able to eat a bowl of soup and when i did i went to the bathroom and took a crap and immediately when i used the bathroom it was like someone turned off a lightswitch .the pain went away i got an appetite i quit swetting but everything smelled like chemicals still . even the fabric softner on the towels smelled like that chemical. but i did a little dance thanked god for getting me through it and went to sleep . Please if you have to use pain meds use them correctly . do not torture yourself as i did. i still in pain i still have major back problems but i will not take anything stronger than a percoset 10 and i take them as perscribed. this is the short version .getting a dr to see me again is a whole another story. i hope this helps someone and saves them the extreme pain and suffering i went through as i would not wish it on my worst enemy. Peace

ADDITION
The effects from OxyContin addiction can be dramatic. While there are individuals who are able to take the drug as prescribed, there is a high propensity to develop an OxyContin addiction. Addiction to OxyContin takes its toll on a person emotionally and physically. If a person begins taking OxyContin for pain, odds are they are experiencing some degree of depression. They may be depressed because they feel isolated, lonely, angry and scared. While the pain might be present, many people find themselves taking the OxyContin to offset the feelings listed above. As the drug use increases, the pain may diminish, but more importantly, the individual doesn't have to cope with those feelings because they are numb. Unfortunately, by this time they have begun to experience the negative effects of OxyContin addiction. Due to this OxyContin addiction, people have difficulty concentrating, feel even more depressed, crave the drug and will do almost anything to get more of it. Like morphine Demerol or Dilaudid, OxyContin blocks pain messages to the brain and central nervous system. This drug also tends to increase the amount of dopamine in the brain, which allows us to feel pleasure. As people continue to use more OxyContin, they expect to feel even more pleasure, but as they continue to abuse the drug a tolerance develops. This means it takes more of the drug to produce the same effect. In an effort to achieve the same "high" they originally experienced, coupled with tolerance, an overdose may occur. In many cases, respiratory failure is seen as the cause for death. The respiratory system is so slowed due to the vast amount of OxyContin; a person's system begins to just shut down. Whether a person started taking OxyContin to alleviate physical or emotional pain, one thing becomes clear to them early on. They can not live without the drug. They constantly think about the drug, where to get the drug and how they will use the drug. Once this obsessive thinking sets in, along with the actual craving, a person is addicted. Consequences of OxyContin Addiction It is quite easy to become addicted to OxyContin. Unfortunately, like any drug addiction, withdrawal can be difficult. Some of the symptoms associated with withdrawal from OxyContin are; insomnia, nausea, vomiting, muscle and bone pain, restlessness and tremors. Those who abruptly discontinue the drug, place themselves in danger of experiencing seizures and convulsions, which can result in death. For this reason, we urge you to seek help within residential treatment programs where you can experience a safe and comfortable withdrawal from OxyContin addiction. In addition to the physical issues associated with OxyContin addiction, its abuse can cause the deterioration of interpersonal relationships, loss of employment, legal problems, financial difficulties and poor health. Treatment for OxyContin Addiction Overcoming OxyContin addiction begins with a medically supervised drug detox program drug-detox-programs.php> followed by residential addiction treatment programs While in detox, a physician will develop a medical protocol, designed to reduce and sometimes eliminate the feelings and symptoms associated with OxyContin withdrawal. It is rare that these symptoms are ever eliminated, due to the nature of the addiction, but they are tolerable. Detox from OxyContin usually takes between five and seven days. After detox treatment-programs. residential treatment is usually indicated due to the person may still experience OxyContin cravings and the residential support will prove invaluable. Group, individual and family therapy will be available, to help recovering addicts resolve the pain of the past and the wreckage of the present. Residential treatment is usually three weeks in length, but can vary depending upon the severity of the illness Is morphine semisynthetic pure Oxycodone reduces motil |

So the same here my husband has a script for 10/325 percocet so if he took a 20 oxcycoton would they test the same or would they know that he was takeing ocxycoton |
||||
actually they do test for independent opiates. I have been going to a chronic pain clinic for several years and have seen the lab resultts and cost. it was 800 bucks. it is true that employers doing randoms just check for opiates, but the tests that the pain clinic do are for each independent opiate. in other words if you are being prescribed oxycontin, and maybe you ran short until time for your next refill, and take a percaset, it will shoe up on the drug screen from the pain management clinics |
||||
i had the same problem my old doc wouldnt give me anything more that 4 5mg percs a day and this went on like this for 3 years finally i said screw it and i looked for another doctor and now am on ms contin 30mg x2 a day and percs also now am taking voltaren,tramadol, and flexeral, your docotor is probley just afriad to treat you my advice is to fire him and get some one who cares. |

My response:
Whoever you are, you are in no position to judge others and their needs for medicine or pain management. i wouldn't trust you to advise me on what kind of food to feed my f'n DOG. You have absolutely no clue. IF in fact you DID work for a pain management clinic, either your job was sweeping floors, or you worked for some hack-job, illegitimate unlicensed and unscanctioned "pill farm" because any half self respecting pain management clinic would neber hire such crooked a-holes that you describe to treat patients suffering from chronic an debilitating pain. Furthermore, any dips**t with half a brain wouldn't go to a pain management clinic that would not accept neither insurance nor provide billing and even financial assistance. True pain management clinics by their very nature strive to exist as an entity that provides compationate patient care that is above and beyond what normal physicians and primary care providers are equiped to provide. I have a family member that has worked for a non profit organization called the international pain research and management organization and they have pain management congresses annually with scientists, doctors, PhD's, MD's and specialists from over 150 countries that meet to share research and development data and techniques. To this day, they still widely pronote and back pain management clinics for individuals that suffer from chronic an debilitating pain because other than acupuncture, massage, chiropractic work, clinical corective kenesiological therapy and MEDICATION, there still is no true CURE for chronic pain that is not corectable through surgical means. That you have th audacity to state that all pain management clinics are fly by night legal dope dealers simply accentuates and blatantly proves one or more of the folloowing" a) you are a dope fiend yourself and you got pissed off when you ran out of pain management clinics to go to to get your fix and now you are pissed off and rather than be honest, you are trying to libel and and accuse pain management clinics of not providing real solutions. b) you are uneducated, unsympathetic to true pain sufferers or you are just plain STUPID and DUMB which is clearly evident because of how you BUTCHER the english language and have no idea what the difference is between a preposition and a past pariciple let alone a noun or a friggin VERB. People like you HURT people. Your "advise" as you say in your sentence, "take my advise" when in fact the word you THINK you are using is actually "ADVICE" you idiot,... your advice, sucks a**. There are people on these websites seeking information and the best you can do is provide some half-a**ed rant that not only mis-uses and butchers the english language and demonstrates the fact that you don't even deserve to be called "english speaking" at even the lowest standards.. but your "advice" misleads people that truly suffer each an devery day from pain so unimaginable by most of us and so debilitating that they cannot sleep for more than a few hours at atime and even then, they have been awake suffering for days and are delerious. Do everyone a favor and shut the F up about things you nothing about other than you couldn't get the dope you wanted to get your fix so you think you can slander legitimate Medical Professionals that have more compassion for the suffering than you'll ever understand. |
||||
|
If I met you face to face, I'd spit on the ground in front of you. You have no idea what you are talking about nor do you have near enough command of the english language, spelling and grammer skills to even justify yourself as someone that even deserves to have an opinion in the first place. Go write reviews for pet food or something wher you belong. I have you pegged to the letter. For everyone else's benefit that reads this website looking for actual information that is HELPFUL, I am going to do them all a HUGE service right now by telling them exactly what the F you are. YOU, Annie, are a tool for starters but that's besides the point, YOU Annie, are a pissed off drug addict that went to a pain management clinic (PMC) seeking to get high. Otherwise you wouldn't have paid THAT much CASH or you would have gone to a REAL PMC that has real Dr.'s that accept insurance or that offer financial services. And, if you did in fact work for a PMC, it obviously was a fly-by-night operation and you clearly could not have held much responsibility and thus are clueless to what their operations are because if you knew anything you'd know that ALL patient records are confidential under the HIPPA laws. So, since people come her that are true pain sufferers, seeking real information, shut the F up, yeah SHUT THE F UP and go away you insensitive, uncompassionate, uneducated and irresponsible, reckless F L1 C K!!!
QUOTE who="ADVICE FOR DRUG USERS"]PAIN MANAGEMENT DOCTORS ARE THE VERY WORST PEOPLE IN THE WORLD TO GO SEE FOR CHRONIC PAIN, BELIEVE ME WHEN I LIVED IN FORT LAUDERDALE/HOLLYWOOD FLORIDA FOR 15 YEARS I WORKED FOR THEM, THEY ARE NOTHING AT ALL BUT LEGAL DRUG DEALERS, IF YOU WALK INTO A PAIN MANAGEMENT CLINIC WITH A NEGATIVE MRI (EVERYONE HAS A NEGATIVE MRI BECAUSE NOBODY, AND I MEAN NOBODY HAS THE PERFECT SPINE, WEAR AND TEAR AND USE THROUGH THE YEARS CAUSES STRESS ON EVERY SINGLE PERSON'S BACK AND SO WITH YOUR MRI AND ABOUT $250 TO $500 FOR YOUR FIRST VISIT (NO IT'S CASH ONLY, NO INSURANCE, LESS FOR ANYONE TO TRACK THESE IDIOTS) THEN YOUR SET, THEY USUALLY ASK YOU WHAT HELPS, AND UP TO ABOUT 6 SCRIPTS THEY WILL WRITE IN A DAY, I HAD A FRIEND WHO DIED 3 CONT>... |
