Use of Oxycontin.

I have used oxycontin (Morphine Sulfate) for over ten years now with varying degrees of success. All with the same pain doctor. I started out small (10mg) per day for MS pain and as MS has progressed I have increased its usage. I am now at 180 mgs of Oxy today. What I want to know is: is this a lot of Morphine sulfate?? Can I go higher? Does anyone here use more than me? It really helps with pain and emotion and lets me live a relatively peaceful life.

Oxycontin and MS contin are 2 totally different medications. You are not taking oxycontin you are taking MS contin if you are taking Morphine Sulphate and no 180mgs a day os not too much. You can go much higher since there is no ceiling to the amount of agonist opiate/opioid medication that you are currently taking.

Oxycontin = Oxycodone Extended Release
MS Contin = Morphine Sulphate Extended Release

I would say if you have a pain issue that hasnt gotten worse, and 10mg of oc or any pain med sedated, I would say get off the pain med, go on small dose of subutex/suboxone you wont increase, youd use less than 2mg a day and your tolerance wont need to climb as it will w/ agonist opiates... odds are the issue is the same(condition) and your opiate use has increased due to the body/minds tolerance, its a true issue with pain medicaton, and the reason antagonist opiates like subutex are gaining in popularity for the tratment of pain... you wont need to increase and wont have the issues you have now...the pain will always seem to be getting worse to get you to increase the meds... basically the pain is manipulating you to take more, when its not needed, the sub use, will relieve the pain and not cause you to need more ea day..what type of injury or condition do you have?

Yes, you are correct and I stand with egg on my face. This drug does make an impact on my life, making it bearable to face each new day. Thank you for you comment.

I just a new perscription of ms contin 15mg ertab ..I am worried about the way i am going to feel on it I use to take two 750/750 vicodin every three hours is this going to much different

i have been on 40mg oxycodone 3x a day for 8 months now with lortab 5/500 the same... i was just switched to 30mg morphine sul er 3x a day what is the difference the morphine doesn't seem to be working as well as the oxy is that because the dosage is lower? please help...i am in serious pain and don't want to go through all this again to get my pain under control... reason for switch is lost insurance and can't afford the oxys?

Hello all...I have just had shoulder surgery. Very painful!!!Docs got me on 40mgs. of oxycontin 3 times daily. For breakthrough pain 1 30mg. of Morphine IR. I have had strict rules about these 2 meds. I'm sure we all know about the chance for slow and shallow breathing. Please take as directed, even the smallest symptom can be dangerous. Every patient is different, don't wait to call your Dr. or have someone drive you to the E.R. I realize my note is like a broken record,sorry if it seems that way. STAY SAFE...
